Our visit was a total blast. This was definitely a karaoke crowd that Tuesday night. Everyone was supportive and generous with applause regardless of how off tune the singers were. We visited this little dive bar last weekend as part of my birthday festivities. There was a band playing that I wanted to see, and they were pretty good. The music was loud. So loud that we could barely hear one another sitting at the same table. We had to wait to spend between songs. I won't hold that against the bat though, since the sound guy for the band controls that for the most part. The place was clean, there were plenty of chairs and tables, as well as room to dance. They had pool tables in the back near the bathroom, and we never had to wait for drinks at the bar. Service was excellent and the drinks were very good. I especially love not smelling like an ashtray when I left. I didn't notice anyone smoking in there, so I'm assuming it wasn't allowed in the building. That's one way to win me over. read more

Saturday night we were out looking for some live music and we happened upon Veets. The house band "The Family Jewels" was playing, so we decided to venture in. First of all, everyone was very friendly. The bar is much bigger than it looks from the street. There is outdoor seating in the front for smokers. We grabbed a table and settled in to listen to the music. There was no table service, so hubby went to the bar for our drinks. Prices were not out of line at all. The crowd is older, or at least it was when we were there. That is fine with me! There seemed to be many regulars and it appeared that they love Veets! Dancing, live music and strong drinks are a great combination. I am glad we finally stopped in! I would go there again. read more

I would go six stars if possible based on the incredible friendliness of the bartender who just happens to make one of the best bloody Mary's I've ever had too. There's a good bit of real estate once you get in the door. They don't serve food but there's a bangin place next door that won't scam you for sure. Veet's is right up my alley! Contrary to what it may appear on Yelp, I actually don't go out often and I don't drink very much. When I do, I love bars that are full of good, hard-working people that aren't afraid to be themselves and have a good time. Great live music and cold drinks are a huge plus too. This bar has it all, plus a pool table in the back. When I was there, the place wasn't overly crowded or so loud you couldn't hear yourself talk. I don't remember seeing all of the liquor, so I can't attest to the selection. I do remember a slim choice on beer, but they had a staple or two that wasn't the bottom of the barrel. I'm pretty sure I had a Samuel Adams. I remember my friends had mixed drinks. I picked up the tab and as best I can recall, it was only about $14 for two mixed drinks and a beer. That's not bad. I would definitely go back to Veet's. It may be a year or so, but I will. read more

"Where everybody knows your name..." Just a stones throw from Dauphin St and literally stumbling distance from the Renaissance Hotel where we stayed. Being in town for the Senior Bowl 3 years running, it's good to know that there's a place to go where you receive that good down south hospitality. With generous pours of your choice and ice cold beer served by the energetic likes of Gina, Robyn and Heather, you can't go wrong. Couple that up with decent late night bar food and a very good house band and you have the winning combination for not only a great time but one that seems to pass by way too quickly. An added plus this year was the fact the Mardi Gras overlapped the football game which meant we were there for the bead throwing parades that go right past the front door. This place is a "diamond in the rough". Super cool "dive" bar. Our solo bartender, Kim, has been phenomenal. Ice cold drinks and great conversations...what could be better? Love Veets! We have been in Mobile for 2 days and just stumbled on this little gem. Great laid back atmosphere, music just loud enough to enjoy but still low enough for conversation. I always feel totally at home when I walk into Veet's... the doorman is lovely and laid back and the bartenders are attentive. If you're looking for some schmoozy spot don't go here, Veet's is a dive bar with a really local atmosphere and you get the sense that most people in there are regulars who are always friendly with the travellers that come in from the surrounding hotels. Its kind of dirty and old and dank and the walls are covered with photos of the regulars doing kinda shady things- but personally, that's what I look for in a bar! My favorite thing about Veet's is probably the reasonably priced beer, and the pool table. They also have a karaoke night there (I think on Thursdays) but only go if you're a fan of singing that's so godawful it's awesome. read more

With dive bars becoming as trendy as facial hair these days, this is probably going to be a "new" hot spot. There was a live band on a Wed night (yes I went out for a drink with friends on a Wed) that was decent. Can't comment on the beer, but liquor selection was about average. Our bartender was friendly, place was fairly clean for a dive bar, and prices were ok. Probably a great spot to visit it staying near the Civic Center, but probably not a regular option for me. read more

Awesome dive bar!! My fiance and I went in for live music and a few drinks on Friday night and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! Beer was cold, the house band was fantastic and the bartender, Kim, was so friendly!! We ordered a white pizza (YUM!!) for a late dinner and while we waited we people watched. Several other folks were eating and drinking their fill, dancing on the dancefloor, chair-dancing and singing along, trying to make love connections... We will definitely be back! read more

The bartender was out in left field. The bar was empty but for some reason she got drinks for the guy on my left and the guys on my right but totally ignored me holding up my cup. If it hadn't been for the guy on my left I probably wouldn't have gotten another drink. Then she poured me a double, I guess so she wouldn't have to come back? Pizza was ok. The sauce was a little too tart/sour for me but the dough was chewy and the amount of cheese was right on. read more

Been here twice, both times it was fun and friendly, super casual and laid back crowd of all ages. The band is really good.

If you're looking for cheap beer and incompetent staff this is the place for you. There are several better spots within walking distance of the hotels. And yes, I did create my first Yelp account just because my experience with this place was so bad. read more
