Thanks to one of our relatives who pointed us to this temple. This Hindu temple has deities in the forms worshipped in the eastern part of India - Kolkata. Being a Vaishnav and growing up with these traditions, aarti time is something very close to my heart. You can just stand there for a few minutes, forget about everything else and feel that peace. Since we live so close, we really wanted our daughter to grow up going to this temple and learning about our culture too. We enrolled her in Sunday school when she was 3, but unfortunately the timing was 6:30-7:30 PM on Sunday. For a 3-year-old, that's pretty much dinner and bedtime, especially when they have school the next morning. We asked a few times if they could consider an earlier time, but unfortunately nothing changed, and eventually we had to take her out. I really wish they would reconsider the timing and listen to parents who have younger kids. I honestly think more children would be able to attend if it was earlier. We want our kids to learn about our religion and culture, but the timing also has to be practical for them. The other thing that slowly made us stop going regularly was that we never really got that warm, welcoming feeling from some of the devotees. Sometimes we just felt like outsiders. There wasn't one particular incident, it was more the overall feeling we got over time. When you have a temple 5 minutes from your house, you hope it becomes a place where your family feels at home and part of the community. It's actually disappointing because we genuinely wanted to be more involved and wanted our daughter to grow up being part of this temple. Between the Sunday school timing and not really feeling that connection with the community, we eventually stopped going as often. But I still have a special place in my heart for the temple itself. Radha-Krishna darshan and aarti here are beautiful, and the peace I feel when I come for darshan is something I truly appreciate. I really hope things become a little more welcoming and the Sunday school timing is reconsidered someday, because we would genuinely love to start coming regularly again. Radhe Radhe.

They even give you containers for chutney. Out of menu curiosity, I spent about $20 and got enough food to feed 2 people. The dining area is clean, the volunteer staff is extremely friendly, and the overall vibe is chill. I will definitely be coming back.

Last week I went to MCNJ for the first time, as I happened to be in the area, and was directed by this man to park in what seemed to be a parking lot right next to masjid. Right after I prayed my sunnah, a lady made an announcement in the women's area that they were towing cars in the parking lot next door. I ran over and lo and behold, my car was being towed. Long story short, I was forced to pay $160 for the tow truck guy to lower my car (ridiculous) as the self-proclaimed "security guard" stood there watching. I was told afterwards that cars are towed every week from that parking lot during Jummah time. As a first time visitor to MCNJ I obviously had no idea and trusted this man to park in the lot. The most surprising thing was that I was also told that this man does NOT work for the masjid!! Beware!
