I have had pet rats & have gone through a few different vets, but their whole team has been the best, the way we are treated, & most importantly how our furbabies are treated. Dr. Amy Belanger has been the best surgeon I had for tumor removals, she has taken such great care for my ratties & they absolutely love her. I can tell because they aren't scared of her sweet cooing voice, & are comfortable with her. Every tumor removal she has done has been a success, and her team is amazing. Destini, Sydney, Lanique, Destinee, Emma, (I know Im forgetting other important names) but they have all texted me & have been a HUGE support for me! I have been going here for about 25 years..when Dr. Otto was here. Since the business was sold to VCA. the place has gone downhill. There are still great vets, but it is so difficult to get an appointment that you might as well use the humane center at Patterson. You can get an appointment with them at 1/4 of the cost. I recently booked an appointment for my two dogs. None of the Vets I regularly see were available for at least three weeks in advance. I took an unknown vet for two weeks in advance. He cancelled the morning of the appointment ( reason given was illnesss) No other vet in the office would see me and my rescue dog was scheduled for surgery the next day and needed to be seen for a check up that day.too bad...they couldn't have cared less. No one even mentioned when my dogs could be seen at a later appointment .After 25 years, I'm looking for somewhere else to take my dogs. Also, VCA is a big business that is taking over small animal hospitals all over the country. When you call you have to listen to endless ads and get sent spam emails. Look for independent vets, sadly not here. read more

I love this place! I've been taking my pets to them since 2006 and never once had the feeling anyone is motivated by money (as one commenter claimed). To the contrary, more often than not, they give you a break and they charge you on a cost-only basis rather than profit basis. I'm also not aware of any type of mark-up of their drugs (and I do shop around when faced with expensive meds). My pug is a frequent visitor/patient there. Some months he will go nuts with ailments and I'll end up bringing him in every other week. Since he turned 8, he's got diagnosed with epilepsy, allergies (to everything it seems), has chronic IBD, and seems prone to injuries of whatever kind and depending on which way the wind blows.... He needs to be bubble wrapped. And so does my wallet. Dr. Putnam, Dr. Fischer, Dr. Kristen, are truly the only vets I trust implicitly with my pug (and with my credit card). Because I'm busy myself, I usually just drop him off in the morning with his "injury du jour" and they will examine him throughout the day and do their diagnostics reasonably and in a manner consistent with the best interests of my pug. Used to rely on this place exclusively for vet care. Until recently they have been excellent and thoughtful. On my last few trips the facility has been extremely dirty. It was so dirty I opted not to sit on anything and the tech made a joke to me about my cleanliness. Look I'm not sitting on a bench that looks like it has dog shit on it. More concerning, if the facility is dirty I don't trust the cleanliness and sanitation of whats being used on my dog. In addition the care is definitely sub par compared to the old vet doctors they used to have. The vet doctor I saw was aggressive and unfriendly. Rather than getting my dog comfortable with what was about to happen, they immediately started grabbing and forcing my dog into an incredibly uncomfortable position. Confused and unfamiliar with the new doctor, my dog obviously started to panic. I would avoid this place unfortunately until improvements are made to how it's operated and staffed read more

I've been working temporarily in the area and have my little doggie friend with me. These folks have been a godsend for little Clyde's care. He's had routine care and even major dental work here. The staff are attentive and great with animals. They've also managed to adhere to COVID safety guidelines most efficiently with pickup and drop off from and to my car. They didn't take enough blood from my cat the first time and I had to bring her back same day for them to take more. She hid in the closet for a week after. It was for a hypothyroidism test (which she already was medicated for), a very common issue in older cats. Also I told them she was throwing up her food and they just said she had to eat cat food, no recs for anything else. I've since been to much better vets who have recommended prescription cat food that has helped with throwing up issues. read more

Started bringing our dogs here when Dr Otto was here, he was an amazing Veterinarian and the service was great. We continue to bring our dogs here because the Drs are good and provide good care, but- the service has gone downhill. Disappointing service and high prices. I've taken my pets here for a few years and I've never been happy with the diagnosis and treatments. They seem to be motivated by money and not the health of the pet. They continually prescribe medicine to treat my dogs symptoms instead of treating the actual problem. I know they make more money this way but my dog suffers. My other issue is that they are overpriced. They quoted me around $800 to spay my puppy. There are a lot of spay clinics that only charge around $150 for a spay. read more

This place is amazing. They are efficient, communicative, thorough and most of all love your pets! I started going here a few years ago when my dog Bella got sick. When the doctor gave me the news about Bella we cried together. When she passed the entire office sent a card and That really meant the world to me. I cannot say enough great things about this vet! I've tried, I believe 3 out of the 4 doctors, and each one is wonderful. Every staff member and vet tech is so friendly and truly cares about your pet. They have longer hours for working dog parents, and that is so helpful for visits or med pick up. They even have Saturday appointments. Sometimes I cannot call during the normal business day, so I leave a message before work to fill Daisy's meds, and they call me back later that day to say the meds are filled. I cannot express my gratitude to Dr. Laura Putnam for the care she gave my 14 year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (and me) throughout the years. She would call and check up on us after visits and consult with me over the phone. She filled a prescription for me after hours. I am so grateful for Dr. Fischer and the amazing staff at Carpinteria Vet Hospital. My dog Kona had a severely broken tooth and was in a lot of pain. I originally took her to another vet in Santa Barbara who quoted me over $1600 and couldn't fit me in for days. A good friend recommended I call Dr Fischer. He agreed to fit my dog in right away and offered to do the surgery on his lunch break. The final bill was less than half of what the other vet quoted me. I've noticed they like to add services to the bill even tough you discuss before hand the services your pet will receive the day of the appointment. I have even asked for an estimate so we all know what we are doing that day but they don't provide that. I even went over the things they were doing while I was outside the veterinary BUT there is always something extra that your pet needed. And of course prices always tend to be a bit different (higher) from last time you visited. They are friendly for sure but it will cost you. I drive from Goleta to Carpinteria to have my dog seen by this clinic. The veterinarians are knowledgeable, caring and above all, kind to my Sheltie. We have unfortunately run into a situation that required removing a leg from my dog. The clinic, and particularly D. Putnam, went out of her way to explain what I needed to know to make an informed decision, and even spoke with another veterinarian in my family from another state to assist me in the difficult decision. This isn't an easy time, but I feel that the very best was done for my sweet Sheltie, and frankly, for the level of surface I received, and the myriad of tests performed, the price was more than reasonable. My dog Lucy is nervous around people but their calm and friendly demeanor (and steady stream of treats) made what could have been a ptsd inducing experience for my loony dog merely terrifying (a huge step up from Lucy's first ever vet visit which was awful and obviously at a different vets office).
