NEMA provided me with a 25-year workmanship/ 50-year warranty on the roof materials for the Shingle roof. Also, a 10-year workmanship warranty/ 20-year warranty on the roof materials for the Flat portion of my roof. What I wanted ideally was a system that would automatically power our home in the event of a power failure. I initially looked at generator systems, but discovered several downsides to that technology. Generators need fuel, which could be be gasoline, diesel, or natural gas. Of these, natural gas was the most attractive, but that would require significant trenching for a new line around the house. In addition, placement of a generator was a problem, due to zoning requirements. Also, gasoline/diesel/natural gas generators have an internal combustion engine, which needs maintenance, like oil changes. The best solution for me was to have a battery backup system installed. This type of system is also known as a "power wall." Shelter recommended a 2-battery system made by FranklinWH (WH stands for Whole House). The batteries are 15 KWH each, for a total of 30 KWH. In our case, this is sufficient to power our home for 24 hours, even during the summer when we are using the central A/C. Other times of the year, 30 KWH would power everything for 48 hours or more. Since installation we have had several power failures, ranging from a few minutes to several hours. In all cases, the backup system kicked in so quickly that didn't even notice. We didn't even have to reset any clocks. When then grid power comes back online, the batteries recharge automatically. Shelter did a great job of understanding what we wanted, and provided an excellent solution. We had a very minor issue that we noticed several months later, and Shelter responded immediately to remedy the issue. I recommend Shelter Roofing and Solar without hesitation.

If I could leave a zero-star rating for B & R Roofing, I would. I have used this company twice, and…read moreon both occasions, Andrew responded promptly and completed the work quickly. However, less than two years after the first repair, the roof began leaking again in the exact area they had previously worked on. I contacted Andrew multiple times by phone and text message, but he never responded. As the leak worsened - becoming more severe than the original issue - I also sent emails and called the business line, yet received no return calls or responses of any kind. After exhausting all attempts to reach B & R Roofing, I hired another roofing company to repair the issue. That company documented B & R Roofing's prior work and confirmed that the repairs were incomplete. Specifically, B & R Roofing only patched a very small section where the leak was visible and did not replace the roof underlayment, despite quoting and accepting payment for that work. After reviewing other customer feedback, it is clear this is a pattern in how B & R Roofing operates. I strongly recommend that potential customers carefully consider their business practices before hiring them. I will also be filing a formal complaint with the Santa Barbara Contractors Board
