He thoroughly explained my x-rays and why he thought surgery was the best option; he fully disclosed the pain factor after the surgery (which turned out exactly how he described it), and his post-op care is wonderful. He called me the day after surgery to talk about my recovery (after putting in a titanium plate), and told me I could take off the velcro splint right away if I wanted. I did just that and haven't looked back. No splint meant starting basic finger mobility exercises right away, and hand therapy a week later. It's amazing how quickly my wrist is healing after 10 days, and it feels so good to be able to move my arm and hand. Dr. Cardon understands physical training and the post-op care plan he individualized for me has allowed a return to my beloved gym after only 2 weeks. I'm so lucky to have found Dr. Cardon! Like any Doctor who is considered to be at the top of their field, you are going to wait a while. Otherwise, I found the pre surgery process to be reasonably organized and far from onerous. I had only a week or so of walker and pain killers, after that it was just Tylenol and walking unassisted. Take this journey with the attitude that it's up to you manage your recovery, early PT and exercise both before and after surgery is key. I had an injury to my right foot/ankle (tendon rupture partially) that I had been dealing with since last September & I was trying to avoid surgery but it wasn't healing so Dr. Talarico surgically repaired it in April, and he did an excellent job. A foot surgery is a very tough recovery but with Dr. Talarico's help & guidance I'm walking pain free again. Dr. Talarico & his staff took excellent care of me. His staff is also excellent & so caring kind & helpful. Veronica his office assistant is awesome & Yolanda his surgical scheduler was very helpful when I had to change my surgery date. I had multi level lumbar fusion surgery with Dr. Su in December. I was in horrific pain and he…read moremoved a surgery to be able to get me in! The staff has been consistent and responsive - well beyond most Dr. Offices. Previously, I had cervical fusion/decompression surgery and lumbar decompression at UCSF. Every day I wish with all my heart that I'd gone with Dr. Su for those. It's hard not to blame myself because I'm convinced if I'd gone with Dr Su initially I wouldn't be left with cervical chronic pain. Dr Su's approach is to do the most minimal surgery because you can always do more, but can't correct surgery that shouldn't have happened. In my case, this lumbar fusion and reconstruction Dr Su did on November was to correct the first aggressive lumbar decompression at UCSF. I'm now 6 weeks post surgery and feel like I'm getting my life back! Nerve recovery has been difficult and painful, and the staff has been incredible at addressing it. For the first time I feel like I'm part of a team working to heal me. Shout out to PA's Connor and Julie, and Anna and Bruno for back office support. One more thing to consider...the practice consists of several high quality doctors that offer supporting procedures adjacent to surgery.

One of the things I appreciated most was how honest and transparent both you and Dr. Su were with my prognosis. Your directness allowed me to make informed decisions without false hope, while still feeling heard and respected. You didn't just prescribe a path--you listened to my concerns and worked with my choices. The main reason I chose to fly from Los Angeles--despite the costly flights and hotel stays--was because you believe in starting with conservative care before jumping to surgery. That meant everything to me. Although Dr. Su thought my lower back MRI showed serious issues, he still agreed to try epidural injections first. Thankfully, I only needed two. Those injections gave me my life back. Before meeting you both, I had been off work for six months. Every provider I saw in L.A. pushed for surgery. As a nurse, I've seen patients come back years later with even more pain after surgery. I know surgical techniques have evolved, but I wasn't ready to take that step without a team I could trust--and I trust you both. Just three weeks after my first injection, I returned to work. I'm on my feet 12 hours a day, and I was finally able to do it again. Thank you--truly. My husband got his wife back. My kids got their mother back. He stopped what he was doing, performed a thorough examination of both of my legs, and told me he was concerned I might have blood clots. He sent me directly to the hospital for testing, where it was confirmed that I had blood clots in both legs. I am incredibly grateful for Dr. Feng's attentiveness, compassion, and professionalism. His willingness to listen caretully and go beyond the immediate reason for my visit made all the difference.
