I just so happened to choose Dr. De Monteiro off of the choices I was given by my insurance. Cigna. I chose him as my primary care so that I could go ahead and do all the things a woman of my age should do to maintain her health and all. Our visit went perfectly! We were on the same page. He spent an enormous amount of time with me, very thoughtful and thorough. He was easy to talk to. Honestly I was a bit surprised I liked him so much. Haha He didn't push vaccines on me at all and addressed absolutely everything on my list and more. I know now I can call his office if anything comes up. Recommend you pass on this office. Dr. Demonteiro's staff is wonderful, but in all the years I've been his patient, the only time I've actually the doctor met (and not just his staff) was when he was treating my husband in the hospital and said hello to me in passing. What's up with that? Sexism? Too much time on the greens? More patients than he can handle? No idea. I was recently turned down for an insurance policy based on something in my file there, and his office made me feel like I was asking too much by calling to ask about what it was about and for an appointment to discuss with the doctor. Now looking for another provider, one who actually has time for their patients and cares about them. One star, only because he has usually excellent staff. read more

My husband went for his annual and first visit as we changed insurance.No communication was mentioned prior or at the appointment that they will charge it as office visit AND annual visit combo. Asked them to order prescription for free sample cgm along with 3 emails, no cooperation-NADA. All this practice care is get more bucks out of you in any possible way out there without putting any effort. Have a rude staff on front desk who can't understand basic ENGLISH. STAY AWAY from this practice, there are many better than these folks. read more

I had a short appointment in this office and my review is in regard to the front office and staff. I have not been treated by Dr. Monteiro. I arrived at the exact time I was supposed to be in the office so I was happy to find plenty of guest (patient) parking out front. The two-story building had a clear index on the first floor that told me Dr. Monteiro's office was on the second floor. I took the stairs up and easily found Suite 800. The front office reception and waiting area has a few seats and a large glass window to the smiling receptionist. She promptly acknowledged me and was very friendly. I prefer small doctor's offices when see a primary care physician; I like the feeling of personalized care. Before leaving I had the opportunity to meet the Dr.'s wife, who was as friendly as the office staff! She seemed very genuine and kind. Great experience the first time with Dr de Monteiro the second time I was expected to wait over 45 minutes which was a complete pain. They informed me that this was typical and that I should usually expect a 30 to 60 minute delay. I found the doctor to be quite narcissistic and un able to collaborate. I have a comprehensive knowledge of my illnesses and my medications. He seemed to feel that he should challenge what specialists have recommended and prescribed. I stayed a short time and was very wary until I could find another primary care physician. 87% of primary care physicians prescribe anti depressant medication. He was WRONG about side effects and usages and unable to hear why or another opinion. This colored every meeting and my inability to develop any trust in his medical ability. Buyer beware. read more

The Front Desk also a pleasure to work with, & they are always willing to go the extra 110 yards to help you out, especially when your elderly parent has an issue. No doctoring at all. I brought my mom here who has multiple health issues. We were never able to get an appointment with Dr D but instead saw a PA who said she was consulting with the Dr. They put no thought into my mom's health and didn't even put her much needed prescriptions in. If left up to them she would be dead. The office is gross and they have limited hours. If you value your health find a practice that actually practices medicine. This group is a waste of money and I believe will actually endanger your health by complete lack of care. read more

This is the best doctor in the Bay Area by far. I must have 6 different doctors I see and Doctor D is my primary doctor. He is so compassionate and always in a good mood. You are never rushed in your appointment. He will explain things on a level that regular patients understand. The staff is top notch. Always smiling and helpful. A total 5 star experience. LOVE Dr. De Monteiro...... Not so much his staff! They NEVER follow up, follow thru or call me back. The doctor is so kind, patient and very understanding and actually takes his time with you. He's knowledgeable and up to date on the latest practices and he is very proactive if he thinks something is amiss with me ie: never hesitates to order lab work or xrays etc. I feel lucky to have him as a physician... Tabitha helped by supplying me with samples until my prescription arrived and also helped set up my mail order prescriptions. She was very accommodating and helped me out of what I thought was going to be a stressful situation. She also took the time to update some missing info in my records. Dr. DeMonteiro is a wonderful, knowledgeable, caring physician. My only complaint is that others have figured that out, so the time to schedule an appointment with him is longer than I'd prefer. However, he has two excellent Physician Assistants who are much more available (and, I think, are a sort of back door to Dr. DeMonteiro because if you have something they aren't sure of, they can just pop into his office to check with him). I didn't want to give him a good review and have even more people go see him. But, it just made me mad to see him getting a low rating, mostly based on complaints from years ago about his staff. They deserve no stars. Office staff is very unfriendly, unhelpful, will not let you talk to a doctor or nurse. They can't even fill out a disability form correctly which cause my Mom to be denied!!! Told my Mom we are finding her a new doctor. One who treats their patients as people not as a number. They don't even say hello when you come in for an appointment. It is unacceptable how this office treats their old patients. Dr. De Monteiro now moved to High School Ave and it continues even worse! I needed clarification for how much antibiotic I was supposed to take per day, because my condition was rapidly changing, and I called the office 4 (four!) times in three days. Basically, twice the first day and every day after that. I even drove down there in person on top of calling and each time was promised to be called back, which never ever happened. If you do not have an appointment, there is no way to communicate with the doctor. UNACCEPTABLE. Problems with health do not always happen according to any schedule. read more

Dr. De Monteiro has been my husband's and my Doctor for 12++ years and THANK GOD for his continued caring, follow-thru and coordination with our other Doctors since we have unique requirements that require extra involvement. He is like the "country Doctor" that everyone wishes they had - if you need a 10 minute talk or longer, he is there for you. He answers your questions or concerns. When I 'crashed & burned' with double pneumonia & a staff infection in both lungs last year, he was there for me morning, noon & night!! He has a staff that, in some cases, has been in transition but Jean R has been the rock that keep things solid. When JMMH transitioned to a new computer system that required the Doctor's offices to change over to that system also which caused chaos!! Having been through a transition like that, we totally understood the delays and frustrations that were experienced! Was just there today and seems like the challenges have smoothed out and the Office is progressing well. We are sad for those who have had a negative experience, we feel Dr. De Monteiro is one of the most awesome Doctors we have had the privilege to be associated with and find his Staff to be concerned and caring. Dr. De Monteiro is a rare find! He took care of my aging mother for years before she passed away. He was always right with his diagnosis when we weren't sure what was going on with her. My mother had dementia and he was always so kind and attentive to her. He handled delicate conversations with grace. We never had to wait long in his office to be seen. Near the end of her life, I had trouble transferring her from the car to the wheel chair and his staff came down to my car to help me. When we had to have her blood checked to adjust her blood thinner, the staff arranged for a service to come to her care home to take care of that which was a life saver because I had just started a new job. They always followed through on her prescription refills. Now, I just had my first visit with him for myself and again, I am so impressed. He doesn't miss a thing when covering your health.
