I called to schedule an appointment for a physical exam and was told I can't do it on the first visit. I need to schedule one visit first where the doctor schedules the exam on another visit so you will have to pay for multiple visits to get normal physical. I don't understand why you need 2-3 visits to get this simple thing. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Varon's for probably a decade now, based on the glowing praise of my dad and stepmom (and fellow Yelpers) Frank N. and Sue N. Though my family moved to Florida years ago, Dr. Varon still asks how they are doing and remembers them by name. Now that's a good guy. Dr. Varon has been monitoring my hypothyroidism for several years and on my most recent appointment was gracious as always, answering a few questions and even digging up old labwork to clarify points. He's given me good physicals, helped me through strep throat, and (yikes!) got rid of a nasty wart on my hand. He's a genuinely friendly and good person, and will answer questions thoroughly without talking over your head in medical mumbo jumbo. His staff is always helpful and friendly, they even helped me out with directions when I was a new patient and got lost on the way to their office! Even though I was 15 minutes late, I was still able to keep my appointment, which is especially appreciated by a working girl. Only once over the years was I seen late, and it was profusely apologized for. My only advice for patients of his is to stick with him. There have been times when I needed to be seen soon and Dr. Varon wasn't available, so I was scheduled with his practice partner Dr. Tanya Threewit. She lives on in my memory as the doctor who prescribed me vicodin for thrush, a bacterial throat infection. Yes I was hurting, but that was not a solution. If Dr. Varon is unavailable, go to Urgent Care - that's what I do. I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Varon as you and your family's PCP, he has always done right by my family and has made us feel personally cared for! read more

Very rude and unprofessional, sad that I have to be ashamed to get treated. Dr Varon is very passive aggressive, if you take chronic pain treatment, don't go to him, he will make you feel like you are the most wort person anyone could be. read more

Saw Dr. Varon for an annual physical and the overall experience was eh. Could have been worse, could have been better. First off, I don't like to wait, especially when I arrive on time. I had to wait for about 40 minutes and no one ever told me how much longer it would be until I had enough and asked. Secondly, the walls there are very thin, so I heard everything that Dr. Varon was recording about his last patient while I had to wait another 10 minutes in the freezing examination room. Not so great. Thirdly, Dr. Varon wasn't very personable and seemed very "clinical". He appears a bit "old-school", meaning he is the Dr. and therefore knows best. Even though, according to this video on the John Muir site he encourages his patients to use the internet to research their symptoms/ ailments. Lastly, and that's the deal breaker for me, his response to all concerns is to prescribe something or other. I am not into medicating for everything and anything, especially, when I point out that most likely my symptoms are stress related and I am looking for something preventative. If you are looking for someone who can write you a prescription when you need one quickly, Dr. Varon is probably for you. If you are looking for a long-term physician who will be by your side in sickness and in health, you might want to keep looking. If someone can recommend a general physician with a more holistic approach (and less prescription happy), please let me know. read more

I was a patient there. I have bipolar, something the office and the doc knew. I showed up at his office because my husband was being treated differently (better) by another doctor In the same practice.I was at the one person reception window when I cried. I brought up the point that in 17 years, his office had never called me by my correct name. I filled out forms dozens of times and still couldn't get it right. 48 hours later he sends me a certified letter saying he was dropping me for being disruptive. That letter was forwarded to the whole Muir network. That's a lot of doctors that can go straight to his letter. Now, I don't have a G.P. How very kind and understanding of you, Is this what you learned in medical school? You were absent when the three psychiatrists agreed that you were in the wrong and that you should have put distressed me in another room or office until you had time to talk to me. Dr. Varon is hands down the best doctor! I have been a patient of his since I was a teenager (I am now 30) and he has always been very accurate and kind. I have Kaiser insurance but happily pay out of pocket for an apt. with Dr. Varon when I have a concern or health issue. My whole family goes to see him and we all think he is at the top of his game! I have never had to wait more than ten minutes for him, he is very respectful of my time. Also, I would never choose a doctor (or not choose a doctor) due to "thin walls" I don't like having to go to the doctor but when I do, I'm so relieved to have a doctor like Dr. Varon. read more

My doctor moved so I had to find a new primary doctor. I selected Dr. Veron mostly because he was in the same office as my original doctor. When I tried making an appointment with Dr. Veron I was told he only sees one new patient a day (even though I had been going to that office for years) and he didn't have an appointment for over two months. I took his first available appointment and showed up 2 months later after having to take the day off of work. When I arrived I was told Dr. Veron already had a new patient that day and that they canceled my appointment the week before. The office employee claimed to have called on Thursday at that is was my fault for not returning the call. The only call I got was an automated message on Thursday confirming my appointment. They offered me another appointment 2 more months out so it would be a total of 5 months (assuming they wouldn't cancel that appointment also). They could have fit me in that day (since it was 100% their fault) and be running 10 minutes behind for the day, but they choose to not to. This show exactly what Dr, Veron and his staff think for providing quality patient Care. Glad to know how much more valuable his time is then mine. read more

Dr. Varon is amazing he is the kind of Doctor who deeply cares about the health of his patients.. He goes above and beyond to find out what may be causing discomfort to the patient. I have been fortunate and feel blessed to have him as my primary doctor. The office staff and his assistance Rose are attentive and very helpful when I am in need of guidance or appointments. Sometimes you may not get in at time scheduled because Dr. Varon takes great length to be thorough and give the attention each person deserves, we all benefit from his attentiveness. The best doctor!! Had to go to urgent care one evening over 20 years ago for a severe cold and was 6 mo pregnant with my first child. Was so impressed with him that I called my insurance company to request him as my primary doc. I'm with Kaiser now because of insurance change but I miss him and his friendly staff. read more

We have been going to Dr. Varon for many years. He sees our three kids , my husband and myself. We had moved away from the area for about 6 years with frustrating care. We were so glad to move back and have our trusted doctor again. He is always curteous, never condencending and best of all explains everything. He encourages questions and truly remembers us for each visit. He is worth the wait. He keeps up on medical treatments and ailments. He has always been open to our research and treatments. Really....... My wife and I were referred to this doctor by my cardio doctor. When I called to make the appointment "Andrea" pretty much acted like a robott and came accross as uncaring and uninterrested in anythng uing I needed to discuss. When I brought this to her attention she became very offended and it went donw hill from there. She told me that the doctor would not see my wife and I on the same day as he only does one new pacient a day. I really felt like she was not going to schedule an appointment because of what I had told her and in the end I hung up the phone without one. I am a 58 year old man who has seen several doctors over the years and I have NEVER had a problem with a doctor or his staff...... I called back and spoke to another person and I asked to speak to the doctor direct. I explained what had happened and she acted like "yeah we know" and told me she would talk to the doctor and call me back. THREE DAYS went by until "I" called back. When I called I was told that she had spoken to the doctor who advised her that he did not feel we would be a good fit based on what had happened with Andrea. Dr. Varon is myself and my son's primary doctor for our HMO, We have never seen Dr. Varon before only Dr Threewit. Today I tried to make an appointment for my son and was told that since he has never been seen by Dr. Varon, he is not considered his doctor and would be considered a new patient for an appointment and he could not be seen by Dr Threewit because she is not taking new patients (but she could see us all those other times over the years?). Staff who answered phone was very rude, and I was told that my son could not be seen until October. He listens, has great advice, is skilled clinically and works with a great network of specialists should your needs be outside of his scope of treatment. Dr. Varon is extremely professional, competent and candid in his comments to me in my time as his patient. I just saw him for my annual physical and felt the he valued my health and my time. I only waited a few minutes for the appointment to begin. On the thin walls comment from another post, I didn't hear anything from other rooms, even though there seemed to be people in many of the rooms. I found Dr. Varon after my family doctor quit his practice. I have seen him three times and each time was a positive experience for me. Gone are the days when any doctor has hours to discuss your health problems in an office setting. Dr. Varon is very cordial but to the point. I appreciate that, as I don't need to prattle on about the current weather or other unrelated things. I was there to get help for my health issues and he was quick, efficient, friendly and quite knowledgable. Wait times can vary, but every doctor's office I have ever been to are like that, and I understand I may have to wait a little. I'm okay with it if I need to wait a little. I find Dr. Varon to be truly professional and caring. He will make time to listen to you and discuss your health issues. I found him very easy to talk with. I have been misdiagnosed twice by Dr. Varon. Once I had strep throat and he told me I had mono. For some reason he thought I had mono a couple of times in my life, I never have. Maybe he needs to review my file before jumping to assumptions. The last 2 times I needed to be seen by him were horrible and I had to go to the Urgent Care just to be seen and get some medicine quickly. The 1st time, his car broke down and he ended up calling me to discuss my problem while i was at work. The 2nd time, his office staff had me scheduled for the next day. I was so angry! He also prescribed me some meds that were in the same family as one that I am allergic to and wanted me to try it since the last time I tried it, I was a teenager, I may have outgrown the allergy.
