Having previously failed the road test, I was very focused on passing the retake. My opportunities were driving more defensively and honing my scanning while driving. And, managing my anxiety around taking the test again. I met with Vaswani in August 2019 and told him exactly what my driving experience was and my nervousness around the test. Because I was also looking to do the BX Road Test and wanted a school to close by, Vaswani's Driving School was a great fit. I was paired with Carlos and from the first lesson he was straightforward about my driving strengths and what I needed to work on. Each lesson we had a targeted plan for what we needed to focus on, which made it very easy to practice and gauge my performance from lesson to lesson. Carlos was definitely a teacher who positively encouraged and pushed me to drive defensively while maintaining avid consideration for other drivers. And, I found Carlos' parallel parking technique to be more effective and simpler than I had previously been taught. In general, his tips around lane changing, turning etc. encouraged me to be decisive and ultimately become a better driver. I had failed my road test with Vaswani Driving School after purchasing a package of 11 classes. His classes were too expensive and there was so much I should have been taught within those 11 lessons before taking my road test. Some people prolong the process of teaching so they can stay in business. I've only met one honest person within that school that really wants to help, the tall slim Dominican guy. After my instructor didn't show up due to weather conditions he was willing to still give the lesson in a blizzard. You won't be taught everything in that book, most is learned through experience but it's up to the instructors if they care enough to properly prepare you. I promised to share my experience with Vaswani's Driving Academy AFTER I received my Driver's license. Proud to say as of January 31st, I am officially a licensed driver . If there's one thing I can tell you about Vaswani, it's the fact that he is 100% professional, patient, diligent, and extremely Knowledge about driving. It's clear that Mr. Vaswani has extensive experience in driving and has mastered the technique to prepare beginners for licensure. I came across this driving academy through a coworker of mine, who had recently obtained her license through Mr. Vaswani's driving academy. Since our jobs require utilization of company vehicles, I had no choice but to take some lessons and work toward my license. It took me about 7 or 8 30-45 minute lessons to become comfortable behind the wheel, (again) and to mentally prepare myself for the road test. Vaswani assured me that I was ready for the actual road test, and that was all I needed to hear. The day of the road test, Mother Nature thought it would be a grand idea to snow. . I thought, "isn't this just great?" I sent Vaswani a text to ask if the road test was still on, he said it was, so I got my life together real quick, and got ready for the big day! Upon my arrival, there were 2 other female students there as well who was also scheduled to take their road test. All three of us were shocked to know we would be going together. When we got in the car, Vaswani turned around and said to us "three licenses today!" We all said yes, and began heading uptown to the test site. Before the actual test, one of the students and myself took turns practicing. We parked, made turns, did a few 3-point turns, parked a few more times and then before we realized, it was time. One of the students went first, then I was second, the other went last. Needless to say, WE ALL PASSED, on the same day! Need I say more?! If you're looking for a driving school that's going to actually PREPARE you and give you the confidence you'll need to ace the road test... I recommend Mr. Vaswani's driving academy. My experience was nothing short of amazing and I have to commend Vaswani for what he does because learning a skill like driving, takes time, and that is something he ensures he tells his students. I just got my license!!!! Vaswani himself was my instructor. A friend, who has been a licensed driver for about six years now, recommended him to me... and I also TOTALLY RECOMMEND HIM!!!! I am not able to comment on the quality of the driving lessons because despite putting in a lot of effort, I was not able to schedule a lesson. I called the Vaswani school at the main number advertised here and on the website and Mr. Vaswani picked up himself while in the middle of a lesson, which I think is kind of unprofessional, and was friendly enough, but after I asked a few questions about his services he said he was in the middle of a lesson and that I'd have to call back. He didn't offer to call *me* back. I called back a few days later and was again told that he was in the middle of a lesson. This time he said he'd call me back when it was done, but after several hours I heard nothing. I called him back and left a voicemail and he never returned my call. I e-mailed him via the e-mail service on his website and asked him to contact me because I was eager to start lessons and he never e-mailed me or called me back. I realize this school's lessons have gotten great reviews, but if the communication and customer service is so bad that you can't even set up an appointment or get a call returned, why bother? I feel the school would do well to invest in someone in an office to field calls rather than the person in the vehicle who won't have time to field phone calls. read more

I live very close by that was my main reason for going to Vaswani driving school. The cars are filthy and smelly the office is clean but the vehicle are dirty and old. I would never suggest anyone go there. Do yourself a favor get all you lesson scheduled b4 you leave on your 1st lesson. Ok. Grab a snack and c'mon back because this is about to be a lengthy review. 6 years ago I took the 5 hr class followed by the 5 lessons package and after completing all 5 lessons I wasn't quite ready for the road test. My permit expired and I never took the time to go back and take more lessons. Present day Im a mother and have noticed in more ways than one the importance of having a license and the freedom that comes with being able to get behind the wheel to get where ever you need to go. Vaswani makes the 5- hour class very engaging. He gives good instructions and personal tips on how to be safe on the road. Even offers financial advice and answers all answers with detail. This time around I made sure to purchase the 10- driving lessons package. By lesson 5 I was confident driving on the road but not so much with parallel parking and 3-point turns. By lesson 10 I was more comfortable parallel parking and making 3-point turns but alas- my nerves would sometimes get the best of me when it came to making decisions without Vaswani telling me what to do. I purchased 2 more lessons and scheduled the road test. On the date of the road test Vaswani gave one more lesson right before the exam and said "Darling this is as ready as you'll ever be" and I felt positive I would pass the exam. I failed the exam. When parallel parking, as I reversed into the space I HIT THE CURB! I knew at that point the exam was over but the examiner continued the exam and when it was over she told me I failed. Today was my 2nd attempt and long story short, I passed. Although my nerves were worse today than they were the first time around, I PASSED. I was so happy I cried tears of joy. If I could give 0 stars, I seriously would. I had Mr. Vaswani himself as an instructor, bought a package, and did not learn anything. I failed my drivers license test with him. I had him in highschool through my school's driving program. He was good then, and very gentle and nice with us students - but once I graduated and came back for independent lessons, he suddenly became mean and condescending! On top of that, all he does is talk about himself and his family. Over and over and over again. He is a very pompous man, and he would give me severe anxiety while I was driving. He also talks over me and talks down to me like I'm a damn baby. I remember one time he told me to turn too early, and he blamed me, and while I was turning, he kept on screaming "WHAT ARE YOU DOING, WHAT ARE YOU DOING!" Extremely loud! Why are you screaming and making me anxious? Not only that, but his scheduling is really bad - after one appointment, he would schedule me a month out and tell me to "practice by myself and then come back". What? I am only saying this because I went to another driving school, only took 3 lessons, and I passed my test with flying colors! I learned SO much more than I ever did. I go to this driving school and I sit there for a five hour class and listen to this man ramble on about how much money his son has in his savings and how many cars he has, where he lives and so on, all non essential things and all Unwanted self promotion. Fast forward to my driving lessons I got put with a man who came off as he could care less about teaching, and someone who rarely showed up on time for our appointments. I was quick to find out I became his errand boy dropping him off to various locations and having me wait in a car while he did whatever he was doing on my lesson times.. Just got my license a few hours ago. I was taught by Joey, one of the two instructors working at the school beyond Vaswani himself. He was a good teacher, very pleasant to interact with but also very punctual and professional. He pointed out my weak spots and helped me fix them. I took the package that includes three 45min classes and the exam itself (being driven there, and renting the car). It was $33 per class, and $60 for the exam; very reasonable especially if you know what they ask for at Manhattan schools. The car I used is a Toyota Corolla. It is responsive and rather small; a perfect car to practice and take the exam in. The school is a 10min walk form the 4 line and the D line; also quite convenient (for me at least). I was recommended here by a friend. I am looking for a respectable place of business that goes for quality as this will be my first time learning how to drive. I went there on a horrible rainy day after 2pm. The sign said they were open but no one was inside. I knocked a couple of times on the door and pressed their broken door bell, not sure if it even works. I wished I read some of the reviews before signing up for Vaswani's. I sincerely regret taking lessons with Elvin in the past. He was always on his phone while I was driving or had loud music playing and I did not even know what an u-turn was at any point during all my lessons. He said to watch videos, so I never had any actual practice. He did not teach me how to properly park. Also I was never taught how to observe any signs like i did not know while driving with Elvin that you have to stop and check to see what car/vehicle came first when you approach a "STOP ALL THE WAY." Sadly since I paid full for a package, it took me 6 months to finish up my 10 lessons so nothing was ever consistent. I eventually went to another school and passed my road test and that's why I am writing this post. I learned so much within a month at the new school with just a few lessons like SERIOUSLY while I learned NOTHING from Elvin during those 6 months!!! I thought I was a bad driver until I met an instructor who actually cared, taught well and made sure I knew the steps for parallel parking/u-turn. Tips for people who still choose to drive with Vaswani school: 1. Take the 5 hour driving class with Vaswani but then go for the actual lessons/practice with another school (trust me that is better for you)! 2. Do not pay in full for packages instead pay per lesson which is the smartest way to approach this school. When you pay in full beforehand, they do not take you seriously. (I would suggest taking 3-4 lessons to see if you are learning before taking any more.) 3. Make sure you are practicing with the latest car and not with an old car either. 4. If you end up with Elvin, speak up when he is just on his phone or playing music. He does not care about his students or maybe he chooses to care about people he can only speak Spanish with. 5. Choose Havemeyer Ave (streets are spacious) for your road test instead of having Elvin sign you up for Strang Ave (streets are narrow). 6. If you do not feel confident for your road test, do not take one extra lesson before your road test. You will NOT learn anything regardless instead pay more for no reason and it'll be a shorter lesson than the previous ones. read more

This man is the truth. I was referred to Vaswani by my sister in law. I went to his five hour class on a Tuesday night. It was awesome!!! His teaches you everything you need to know about driving and more. His teaching is very clear and professional. He never makes you nervous. His rates are very reasonable. If you purchase a package after the five hour class, he credits the money from the class ($35) towards the package! It's a win win here. I got a package of five driving lessons ($210 maybe). I was not driving before I started the lessons. It was fairly new to me. I became comfortable immediately with the brand new Toyota Corolla that you get to drive. I took signed up with him because my best friend mom learned from him that was 20 years ago. But now he's a horrible Instructor! No communication skills at all, lessons are spaced out way too far across from either once a week or once every three week. Classes are 45 minutes long depending on his mood if he's late or upset he'll end the lesson shortly, doesn't teach you everything unless you ask for it. I didn't like this driving school. I started out with Elvin who I guess is a nice person or whatever but I took lessons almost everyday for three or four weeks and didn't feel like I learned shit. When it came to the road test, naturally, I failed. (woohoo) Let's go into detail: My first lesson was with Vaswani, and it wasn't fun. He did this thing where he tells me to slow down, then to speed up, then to slow down. To the point where I wasn't sure what the hell he wanted from me and I just wanted to go home. He likes to yell, regardless of what other people will tell you. He yelled at me while I drove and shocker, yelling at people while they drive will not enrich their driving experience. After that I was with Elvin and he was okay but I was always uncomfortable around him. Sure he means well but there was just something weird and creepy about the way he taught me. He would cram my lessons into like an hour and a half and I think the longer I drove the less confident I became. I definitely couldn't drive well with him after I'm PRETTY SURE he was watching porn on his phone beside me. After that I was pretty much fucked cause I was uncomfortable and couldn't focus. After I failed the first road test I went back to learning with Vaswani who mistakenly showed me his gallery on his phone in which there was a picture of AN ASS and I was RIGHT BACK at being uncomfortable and unfocused. This time I wrote it off to male sloppiness and not some type of perverted whatever. And I thought I felt more confident but those were just emotions, the fact remained that I pretty much still know nothing about what I need to pass the road test so on the second try I failed. I had really high hopes after the 5 hour class here only to be let down. My instructor is Dayanna and scheduling is the worst. My lessons are so spaced out that I everytime I get in the car it feels like the first time. Half the time I don't even feel as if I'm being taught, just told what to do but the problem is I have no real knowledge of the road and what's best. There's just very little clarity in her way of teaching. I do wish I could give a better review as she is a nice and patient person, but she just isn't getting the job done. Nothing but great things to say about Vaswani's driving academy. He is a great instructor who brings over 2 decades of driving knowledge. He is very personable and makes you feel very comfortable when you are on the road. He ensures you are ready for your road test and makes sure there are no short cuts. Bad experience,I had Elvin as a instructor. Most of the time he was a half hour late to pick me up in the mornings at the school. Instead of teaching me how to drive,he would be on his cell phone talking to his wife n daughter while directing me into super heavy traffic like Webster and gunhill. He never taught me how to park properly he would just watch me make mistakes n hit the brakes n say turn right turn left,see u got it. Then 3weeks later he would get upset if I made a mistake. I didn't not realize the flaws until a regular person taught me how to drive.(I learn more from YouTube n simply reading the DMV book.) He didn't START me off in a traffic free area. I paid for 11 lessons all the lessons were two, three weeks a part and I basically paid for him to stay on his cellphone. The very last lesson I had to payed for,he made me get out of the car n search for a ATM 5mins B4 my test instead of simply waiting to we get back to the school,he kept nagging and nagging about the $40 and stating MY BOSS IS A JEW. YOU KNOW HOW JEWS ARE ABOUT THEY MONEY,causing me to be upset and more nervous. This may be a good driving school but Elivn is not a good or caring instructor. read more

Wow it saddens me that Mr. Vaswani has gotten any negative reviews. He's been such a respectful, polite, professional instructor. He's actually the best instructor I've ever paid for. After about 6 lessons, I took my exam and passed! His teaching and patience is very commendable. Yes! He's very busy!!!!!! For the most part, there's no one in the office because he's always on the road giving lessons. He tries his very best to accommodate every student as his days begin very early and end in the evening. He's always booked which should show how great his instruction truly is. I really could disagree with all the negative reviews. If you want an instructor who is really going to help you pass and live in the Bronx area or are willing to travel, I'd definitely would call to set up an appointment. Please do not get discouraged if he cannot take your call immediately, he truly is busy teaching. And make sure you call when you have your permit!!!!!! You need that & a 5hour class certificate before you begin instruction. If you don't have your 5 hour certificate, he gives classes twice a week. You won't be disappointed.
