Harry from Varitek Heating & Air Conditioning in Downey was excellent. He was incredibly knowledgeable, diagnosed the issue right away, and fixed everything on the spot. The whole visit took about 20 minutes, and he made it look easy. He was friendly, professional, and clearly knows what he's doing. I was referred through my home warranty, and I'm honestly so glad they sent him out. Highly recommend Harry and the Varitek team if you want fast, honest, and efficient service. read more

Varitek was a second contractor that our home warranty sent out and they were LOADS better than the first company. Xavier and another technician came out and asked us questions (before arrival and upon arrival). They arrived within the time window and let us know in plain English what was happening and that it wouldn't be covered by our warranty. Their honesty and promptness got them hired to make the fix. Xavier was great with scheduling and arrived again within the time window and got us AC during the heatwave. We highly recommend and would use them again. read more

Varitek Heating and Air Conditioning provided excellent service to my aging parents. The technician was patient, answered all their questions, fixed their air conditioning issues, and provided future recommendations without being pushy or overly aggressive. The system works wonderfully now, and my parents are confident in using them for additional service should the need arise. Thank you Varitek! read more

Varitek was selected by my home warranty company to inspect my AC which was blowing warm air. After scheduling a first appointment, multiple follow ups were required. For each follow up Varitek would call me only when they had someone in my area expecting me to drop what I was doing and leave work to meet them. I have now been waiting over a month for a follow up visit. Tried multiple times to schedule an appointment no call back. Edit after Varitek resonse: Varitek closed this work order May 16th. They have not reached out in the last month. Dishonest and poor customer service. read more

Varitek was selected as the contractor to tune-up our AC unit by our warranty company. Since April we are trying to get these guys to tune-up our AC. They showed up once and their technician said "oh we don't have a ladder to go up to the roof". So let me ask you this. What kind of contractor goes to a job site with no ladder to do the work. When I asked the contractor "hey do you want to do the work?" He says to me with a smile on his face "not really". I contacted the owner. The owner talks very professionally on the phone and will assure you that they will look into the issue but won't execute the plan. Very disappointed... This company closes warranty claims to milk warranty contracts. Stay away. I will report them as a scam to my warranty company and encourage them to remove them as one of their preferred contractors. read more

Varitek also fixed our A/C through a home warranty claim. They diagnosed the problem (which could have been a lot worse), explained what was happening with the unit, and got the needed parts replaced. There was a coolant leak, and they were able to isolate it to do the necessary repair. Xavier was sensitive to the fact that we had an elderly person living in the house, and. would need A/C soon due to her condition. Thank you Xavier! The repair team that came out worked efficiently to do this work order. I would definitely call them for additional work, or a new installation down the road. read more

Run away! Xavier and Varitek have been nothing but a disappointment. We contacted Varitek Air back on 08/29/20 to fix our AC because it wasn't working. A technician came to our house to service the AC and had to take the motor with him to get a replacement. He told us he'd be back in about a week to fix our AC unit. After several weeks of calling Varitek and leaving voicemails I finally got a hold of Xavier when I called the emergency number. Xavier made no attempt at apologizing for the lack of communication and told me my AC unit would be fixed the next week. That week came and went with no update or repair. Then I again do the leg work to reach out to Xavier this week to get our AC fixed. He told me they would repair it today so I took work off and waited. After waiting, I then get told they will be by tomorrow. Now I am being told by our insurance that Xavier won't fix our AC. It has been a month and our AC is still broken. If you want to work with a company that is slow, doesn't get the job done, fails to follow up with clients and is unreliable then go with Varitek! read more

I do not understand why people would rate this business anything less than 5 stars. Xavier of Varitek is one of the most professional and straightforward individuals I have ever had the pleasure of working with. He completely understood the urgency of my situation from the moment we spoke and handled it like a boss. He drafted the play by play, he kept me updated on everything and he executed the plan flawlessly. These guys couldnt get rid of me as a customer even if they tried. I would not hesitate to recommend Varitek and any of their services. Izzy the technician deserves a shoutout as well, with his supreme diagnostic skills. I cannot thank you guys enough for coming through for me and my family. read more

I called them because my Nest thermostat shut down when I removed my reusable filter for cleaning. Instead of wasting my money to send someone out to my house, they told me that there is a shutoff switch which turns power back on when the filter door is replaced. Could have charged me for an easy house visit, but they didn't. That's honesty and service right there. read more

Varitek fixed our air conditioning through a home warranty claim. Our unit quit working over a holiday weekend! Such are the joys of home ownership, that things go wrong at the least convenient times. Filed the claim with our home warranty over the weekend, and we got a call from Varitek the next business day to schedule an appointment. "Are you available tomorrow?" I was surprised, and delighted, given how busy every A/C contractor is during a heat wave. They arrived within their stated time window, and after a courtesy call with a 20 minute advance notice. The fix was done promptly, and with a friendly attitude. I would recommend a call to Varitek even if it's not covered by a home warranty! read more

I got in touch with Varitek through the home warranty. First, I couldn't contact them directly. I called several times during the week and the answering machine told me to leave a message and a representative would get back to me. That didn't happen even after a week. Second, they are very dishonest in their estimates. They included modifications to the old system that was way more expensive than a new system. This is just a strategy for the home warrant to get away from the cost. So they bill $2800 (75% of the costs according to home warranty) to me by the bogus claims. This is a dubious act in partnership with the home warranty. I wouldn't trust anyone involving such strategies. read more

Varitek Heating & Air Conditioning in Whittier is the very best company to go to. It works great!!! I'm so happy I had it installed, especially with the type of heat we had this past summer. Xavier, who installed it did a wonderful job and is a great asset to Varitek Heating & Air Conditioning! You will definitely not regret using this company!! read more

This company was hired through our home warranty. We were able to set up an appointment within a day. We were given a 3 hour time frame of when they would show. A gentleman named Izaith called the morning of to verify our appointment and also called when he was on his way. He showed up wearing a mask and put on shoe covers before entering the house. It took about an hour to diagnose and fix the issue. He seemed very knowledgeable and kept us updated every step of the way. It's been a week since he fixed our a/c and it continues to work great! read more

The central AC in our apartment broke down. This is JUST after moving into the newly built (less than a year old) complex. Not sure why a new unit would break down so quickly, maybe it was just faulty equipment to begin with, but Xavier and Izzy were hired by the management to come resolve the issue. Just to note, they did not do the original installation. Some other company did that and the guy who came to inspect couldn't figure out why it was broken. Like WTF? Varitek should have been hired to do the install for ALL the apartment units, not those other fools. Xavier and Izzy had to come in and clean up their mess! I am so impressed by their commitment to do the job and I commend them for their professionalism. They were working on fixing the issue until 8:30PM, which is CRAZY but I am so grateful that they did because now my family has cold, sweet cold air in this hot LA summer weather. They applied a temporary solution and said that they will come back tomorrow, but I couldn't wait to write this review. And I have no doubt that they'll get the job done. They worked late, instead of being at home with their families, so that my family could be comfortable. And for that I am extremely grateful. read more

Couldn't be happier sitting with the ac blasting on my face as I write this review. We have been sitting in the dead heat for days which felt like forever. We just moved in a month ago and ac died, thankfully got referred to Varitek by our home warranty as an escalation as the first company NEVER came out or called us. We couldn't be more pleased with Varitek. Friendly phone staff - Laurie. Xavier was super courteous and knew exactly what was wrong within minutes of inspection. Very straightforward and knowledgeable. Appreciate the additional explanation on the thermostat entry issues. Also- without us even asking, he wiped the creepy handprints on the ceiling door to the attic that was there when we moved in. How nice is that??? Was very pleased to see that after he left. Definitely would recommend. Thanks- we will be your long time customers from now on. read more

My husband and I noticed that our AC stopped cooling and the fan on the unit outside was no longer spinning. After searching around for companies close by, we found Varitek and Xavier came to the rescue! He was a half hour early, walked us through everything step-by-step, and got our AC working again in less than an hour. He was very professional and personable - thanks, Xavier! read more

They reassigned my HVAC claim to another company. The new contractor came out today and said he finished wiring my motherboard that wasn't wired properly/left unwired by Varitek and this fixed my AC and Heat. I have a mini split a/c system that was having some issues so I called my home warranty company and they referred Varitek to come out and trouble shoot the system. An employee of the company Xavier called me and set up an appointment. Their tech came out and tried to troubleshoot the system but failed and ended up breaking one of the fans while testing the system. When I called the company to let them know what happened, Xavier said he'd order the parts and replace the fan no problem. This was the last I'd hear from this company. There was no follow up with the status of my claim or even a order to replace what their company broke. I went an entire month without being able to use my a/c or heater because they claimed to be waiting on backordered parts. Xavier avoided my phone calls made numerous excuses, said he'd call me back and never did. I ended up calling the manufacturer of my mini split system myself and had the parts delivered within a week. I also ended up replacing the fan blade myself because at this point there was no logic in calling this company back. The point of this review is to let people know this company and specifically their employee Xavier are liars and they just want the call out to get money from the home warranty. Anything further, regardless of what they break, they will not repair or fix anything so do not waste your time. read more

Stay away from these liars at Varitek Heating and AC! We have been without our AC unit, no heating or anything this entire time since beginning of Dec! We contacted them through our warranty company and we had 3 appointments with them and all cancelled because of the rain- they could not put us in on their schedule sooner and then- they deliberately cancelled our upcoming appointment and took us out of their system because I called them and I was upset and frustrated and complained! These people cannot take complaints well- a woman named Leslie would speak over me when I tried to explain to her the situation. I am 7 months pregnant- I have a 4 year old boy, we are cold in our home and we just needed to get this done! Leslie was very rude to me but we still made the appointment for Jan 6 and kept it like that. A few minutes later a man calls my husband and I talk to this man and we are in the middle of getting something. I had already spoken to Leslie- I don't need to speak to anyone else. The man wanted to release us from the system and refer us back to our warranty to "expedite" service- I just wanted them to come and get the job done! I told this man that I had no time to discuss this any further and he chuckled- that's right- he laughed! As if it were some kind of joke! And I hung up. And we called to verify our appointment and we find out that our appointment got cancelled, without our consent! And without them even calling us! And we were no longer in their system. Now- we are back to square one trying to get someone out here to our homes ASAP! They are a disgrace of a company, unprofessional- rude- arrogant and misleading! SAVE YOURSELF THE TROUBLE AND FIND ANOTHER CONTRACTOR! These people suck!!! Sorry- NOT SORRY! read more

12/16/09 I live in Cypress (North OC). My home furnace stopped working 12/10/09. As it happens, this has been the coldest week this year. Yes, it's SoCal, so yes 47*F outside is considered cold. Anyway, after calling a couple of other companies, doing some online rersearch, and getting bids, I lucked upon Varitek on Yelp. Called them up and talked to Xavier, who came out yesterday and gave me a very attractive bid to replace my 51yr. old furnace. Nice, friendly, courteous - no hard sell. I accepted and he scheduled the install for this morning. Xavier and Larry came out promptly, as scheduled, got to work, did an awesome job - very diligent, very careful (we are dealing with gas here, so you can't be too careful). When they were done, they cleaned up and took the time to explain everything. Great pricing - their bid was 1/3 less than one of my other bids. Conscientious/Honest work - took their time and didn't rush and cut corners. If you need HVAC service/repair/installation... I would highly recommend calling Varitek. Overall, just really excellent work from good people. I will definitely be calling them in a few months when I go shopping for AC. read more

As a state HERS Inspector, I inspect the installation of a large number of different installers in the HVAC industry. Bar none, Varitek may be one of the best HVAC installers I've ever had the pleasure of inspecting. The attention to detail Xavier puts into each system he engineers, is truly exceptional. From the standpoint of energy efficiency, and quality installation, it is truly rare to find an installer this good that cares as much as he does. I don't generally like to endorse HVAC installers, but as someone who inspects their work for a living, I had to say something about this company as I am always impressed every time I am called out to inspect their installations. He did not ask me to write this review, but I felt like the world needs to know. You will not regret choosing this company. read more

SUCK! Theses guys were assigned by our home warranty company after our floor heater was not functioning. They came, looked and said they will come back and service it. But then after 2 weeks, I called and they said they will check with warrant co and come back. But the warranty co told me they have all approval to proceed. Another 2 weeks, they said they need to schedule. Another 2 weeks went by and they said "we will schedule". Like this 2 months went by and the guy on phone did not even feel guilty. These guys SUCK! I would definitely recommend Varitek for a variety of reasons. We had been looking to replace our heating and cooling systems because it had broken down on us in the middle of January. One of my coworkers had given Varitek high recommendations so we called Xavier in for an estimate on the units. He sent us a proposal the next day. Xavier was very patient, helpful, and friendly, explaining all the costs and payment options as well as how the installation would proceed and the products that would be installed. When Xavier and his staff arrived at our home, they worked quickly and efficiently and cleaned up their materials before they left. Xavier and company were very helpful during this process which put my mind at ease when they began their work. I have already recommended him to many of my friends and family, knowing that he will give them the great and professional service that he has given us. read more

I recommend Varitek with no reservations. I was looking for a local contractor with a professional attitude and performance; who is knowledgeable, honest and fair in pricing. I asked for referrals and searched several other ways before coming across the reviews here on Yelp.com by Vinh V. and Tri C. The reviews sounded too good and I was skeptical, but it turned out their reviews were right on! Xavier and his apprentice arrived on time, worked safely and efficiently to analyze the breakdown (fan motor failed and seized), and gave a quote with a full explanation of the cost and options. I work in construction, and know his pricing is very good. As soon as Xavier had the parts needed (he got a replacement motor on a holiday weekend, no less), he called and returned at my earliest convenience. I watched him and his apprentice make the entire repair. They made sure everything was even better balanced than before. Now my HVAC works quieter than ever. They even recommended a couple inexpensive improvements I could do on my own to increase the efficiency and reduce noise further. To top off all the great service, Xavier and company are very friendly. I know I will be calling them again soon to improve my attic and house ventilation system. This is a top dollar company at value pricing. It's fantastic having a great, one-to-one working relationship with a local professional. read more

I had my ac replaced about a year and a half ago and it never worked right. The company that I used came out 6 times to try and fix it but could not find the problem. Since my 1 year warranty was expired, they started charging me for labor. Even though the parts were covered for 10 years there was no way I was paying for labor on something that was never right. I finally called Varitek and they found the problem in 5 minutes. Xavier was very knowledgable and walked me though everything that was wrong and what he needed to do to get it up and running. It is now working perfect and we are cool again. I definately recommend Varitak to anyone who needs a good honest AC and heating repair or install. He even sent me a couple of follow up texts to make sure everything was still ok. A************** Service. Henry from Covina read more

I called this company to do some work at a couple of my rental propertys as well as my home. They are very neat and do excellent work. I've used a couple of other companys but the work was sloppy and i had to many complaints from tenants with units not being fixed right. Varitek fixed units right the first time and now we just have them maintain them. They installed a new system at my home and I was very impressed when the inspector complemented their work. So....the company called me back and did go to my mothers house to service the aircondtioner. A gentleman by the name of Xavier called me on the phone will at the residence to explain the situation to me. He appeared to be knowledgeable and did manage to fix the unit, it seems a litte pricey (500) but he was there a couple of hours so apparantly there was a sizeable amount of work. Bottom line, he solved our immediate need and that was to get my 84 mother cool air in her home and did not pusc a new unit on us. I will be calling this company back in the future when we are ready to purchase a new unit. Great job Xavier! read more

We first started using Varitek 2 years ago and have been very pleased with them. I found that Xavier is very honest and trustworthy. We have a home warranty and our request was assigned to Varitek to fix our AC issue. The first time they came, the technician filled 4 lbs of refrigerant and advised that there maybe a leak. They never followed up to fix the leak issue. After using AC couple of times in 2 weeks, we notice there was a leak from the Attic. We called several times and after 5 days we were able to schedule an appt. The tech went in the attic and said there was loose plumbing and this caused the leak. Couple of days later, we noticed the same leak and called them again on a saturday and dispatch said they would come out first thing on Tuesday. Each time, they give you 4-5 hour window so you have to take time off work to be present. On Tuesday, they did not call so I called them at 11am and they advised that they would not be able to come until end of day around 4-5pm. I told them i had another appt and the dispatch rep would not listen and was very rude and arguing. After I asked to have their management call me so I can provide my feedback to their management, they cancelled my appt even though I never said to cancel. We wasted 3 diff vacation days and they still did not resolve the issue. I waited 4-5 days to give their management time before posting a reviewe. No one called so this is the feedback. read more

Quite simply Xavier was the most professional person my wife and I have ever dealt with. He came out the day before his company vacation, most people would have tried to knock out our problem as soon as they could to start their vacation. NEVER ONCE did I feel Xavier try to rush through. He even answered questions for work I planned on doing years from now (and YES it will be Varitek that gets my business). Xavier is also knowledgeable in other areas and was able to give my wife and me advice in a completely unrelated matter in our lives. I cannot express how amazing of a job he did, and when he left he made sure to make the appearance of the house looked even better than it did when he arrived. After reading some reviews I was confused most were positive but one was very negative. I made an appointment and was told they would be at my house the next day between 9 and 11AM. They were late and I was unhappy. The problem was repaired quickly and I now have a hvac service and repair man I can count on to fix future problems. I would advise Xavier to be very careful to clearly state that estimates of when he will show up are guesses and he should also phone the customer before the estimated time of arrival expires or be on time. read more
