What a great little but mighty plant nursery in S.E. Portland Oregon…read more I used to live in this neighborhood and it has many hidden gems. Birds and Bees Nursery is one of them. I'm a member of Carnivorous Plants Society of Oregon and one of my things is finding places that sell Carnivorous Plants outside of the big box stores. Sure the big Home store has plenty of Venus Flytraps every year but it's a cruel thing to see a plant abused by employees who don't know how to care for such a plant. First of all this plant has 2. basic needs. 1. All the direct sunlight it can get. At least 12 hours a day. 2. Distilled Water or Rain water. To see this plant living inside the store on a shelf dries out is a difficult thing to see. If it is watered, Tap Water us what it's given. Tap water is a for sure slow death to a Venus Flytrap Plant. So in my search, I found a little nursery in the burbs. Next to a Taco Smell restaurant, full of all sorts of plants from vines to carnivorous plants. In my interest, they had Sundews, Picture Plants and a ton of Venus Flytraps all sitting in the full sun. I found what I thought was a good specimen and when I picked up and looked at the Venus Flytrap I wanted, I realized it was actually 3 small and one slightly larger Venus Flytrap plants in the same pot for (I'm pretty sure in right. I was so excited to find such an awesome plant that I kinda forgot and the receipt wasn't helpful.) $15.00. They're usually about $10.00 for a common Venus Flytrap plant. I basically bought 4 plants for $3.75 a piece. With such great prices, my wife found a couple plants she couldn't leave without. We both left Birds and Bees happy. Update on our plants. They're all thriving in their new home.

I can't think of a better place for my 200th Review! So an eccentric lady in a hat and a one…read morehanded woman walk into a random store after travelling halfway across town to put on a cast...are you expecting a punch line to this joke? Well, since the hat lady was my mom, the joke tends to carry throughout the whole day. Between her insisting on driving (badly), and embarrassing me at my doctors appointment, getting lost in search of a cheesesteak, and then stumbling upon this amazing shop-the joke was on me. But, she is never a boring companion. She walked through the shop, almost knocking all these amazing trinkets over, oohing and ahh'ing and asking the shop owner silly questions while she grabbed tons of unique items she had to have. They have all sorts of things fantastical. It seems it is a mix between local artists, random finds, vintage/antique items and knick knacks. Lots of dragon stuff which makes my mom go crazy shopping mode, lots of garden stuff-really not sure how to explain the genre of items because the only word coming to mind is "NEAT". seems like there could just be something for everyone. I bought a hanging glass item, a goofy looking turtle lawn ornament from the 60's that looks like it could be from Alice and Wonderland/Acid Trip, and even a weird toothbrush holder shaped like a big mouth with a giant tongue to set the toothpaste on. It's the kind of store where things just kind of call to you. I have no idea why I wanted the turtle OR the tongue. But they were meant to be mine, and the turtle seriously belongs on my deck. It's bad ass. The whole freaking place, is just bad ass. The owners are very nice. They are usually closed on Mondays I guess, but let us in anyway. Considering my mom spent a small fortune herself, having them help her load stuff into her car, I guess that was a good business move. Prices range, as most unique items do. Some items were priced so reasonably we couldn't pass them up, especially since most of the stuff was 20% off that day. Christmas is coming. You do not want to pass up this store.

Portland Garden Decor -- A Truly Exceptional Experience…read more From the moment we walked into Portland Garden Decor on the Sunday before Memorial Day, Stefan and his crew were nothing short of incredible. We had an idea of what we wanted, and within minutes they were gathering pieces from around the grounds and building two complete fountains right in front of us so we could compare styles, sound, and flow. They filled each fountain by hand, balanced them perfectly, and turned them on so we could experience the full effect. We were honestly blown away. The craftsmanship, the care, and the attention to detail were on another level. Stefan's pricing is more than fair -- especially considering we had looked online beforehand and anything comparable was well over $3,000. His deal was so good we couldn't pass it up. He answered every question with patience and expertise, and let us know they could deliver to the Fisher's Landing area after glazing the piece, which we requested. Just as promised, Stefan called on Wednesday and arrived promptly for delivery. He and his one man crew handled the extremely heavy base with ease and professionalism, bringing everything carefully around to our backyard. In under 30 minutes, they had the fountain set, filled, leveled, running beautifully, and even treated the water with algicide. The level of service was truly above and beyond. We couldn't be happier with our fountain or with the entire experience. We highly recommend Portland Garden Decor to anyone looking for a custom fountain or unique garden pieces. We'll absolutely be back for statues, pottery, and fountains in the future.
