Prior to getting engaged, we had been looking at rings here and there, found a couple I really…read moreliked online, but hadn't settled yet on anything. I knew I wanted something unique and asymmetrical, and I was really drawn to teal sapphires in particular. When my fiancee popped the question, we were with my family for our annual vacation together in Santa Cruz. The following day we decided to hop downtown and see if we could find a placeholder ring for me to wear until we found "the one". My cousin recommended checking out Stephan's and we're so glad we did. We first met with Leslie, as Greg was helping another appointment. She took the time to listen to our story and really gauge what styles I would be interested in. She let me explore anything that caught my eye and also brought out a ton of vintage rings for me to choose from. Upon further discussion with Leslie, we decided it might be best to put what we would spend on a placeholder on the actual engagement ring. Since I was really interested in finding something atypical, and was curious about what I had found so far, she suggested I chat with Greg. I showed Greg the rings I was really drawn to that I had found online and he offered his expert opinion on what would be important to consider if I decided to purchase one of those options. I greatly appreciated his authenticity and honesty when it came to offering advice on items outside of his own stock. I could tell immediately that his advice was genuine and rooted in my best interest. Both of these rings featured teal sapphires and he even offered to let me look at a stone he had in stock to see it in person, just so I would know what to expect IRL. He told me to take the sapphire outside and look at it in several places to see how the light would look in varied spaces. It was absolutely gorgeous and I knew that this was definitely the stone I wanted to have in my engagement ring. Upon entering the store again, Greg, my fiancee and I just kept chatting, enjoying easy banter and hearing about his own story as a jeweler. I was so grateful to have the gift of Greg's expertise and was thinking we would be leaving the store empty handed, but empowered with more knowledge about how to make the best choice for my ring. Next thing I knew, Leslie said she was opening new stock for the store and she came across a ring she thought I might like. It was very unique; a diamond cluster arrangement from the Parade line. I tried it on and once again Greg recommended taking it outside and looking at it through several different light sources. It was gorgeous! Delicate, unique and distinctive - just what I wanted... but my heart was still set on a teal sapphire as well. I came back in and asked if we could place that stone into this band somehow. I could tell this got Greg excited too. He started examining the band and mentioned that he has a great relationship with the Parade brand and that he would be able to make a custom band with them to implement this stone. My response was - I LOVE IT - I WANT IT! Greg then let us know what the timeline would be like moving forward, what to expect and that he would be here to help us every step of the way, which he was. Living over 300 miles away in Long Beach, we felt secure in the fact that Greg was going to be a wonderful partner to make this vision become a reality. I had lots of questions along the way and was even unsure when the ring was ready whether it came out the way I wanted it to (pictures don't compare to having the ring in person though!). Greg was kind, compassionate, supportive and dedicated to making sure I had the ring I loved. We drove up to see it in person and after examining and acquainting myself with his creation, I absolutely fell in love. Thank you so much Greg and Leslie for all of your exceptional care and expertise - and for making a place like Santa Cruz even more special to me and my family with the gift of this gorgeous ring.

As she let me touch the ring she grabbed it from my hand and took it right back as if I was going to take the ring and run away with it or something which Honestly as a jewelry business you should have better customer service but now I can clearly see why your business is not doing so well and is going Out of Business. They claim to have a 70% off but they seem to have marked up the jewelry so high once you add the discount it's still as if your paying regular price for it. I had the money to buy as it was my birthday but thanks to them I rather go to a big store like Macys instead of giving a small business my money when their being quite rude, disrespectful and racist to top it off!!

I originally came in hoping to redesign the set (as it was damaged), but after exploring several options, I realized a full redesign wasn't financially realistic for me at this time. Rather than pushing me toward something outside my budget, Thomas worked with me to find a solution that honored both the sentimental value of my original ring and what I could realistically afford. He repaired my original setting, replaced my stone with a beautiful lab-grown opal, and helped me creatively use inherited family jewelry toward the project. The end result feels deeply personal and absolutely beautiful -- I now have my wedding set back in a way that feels meaningful, unique, and affordable. What really stood out to me was how much personal attention Thomas gave throughout the process. He took time to walk through options, answer questions, and genuinely get to know me and what I was looking for. He's warm, funny, easy to talk to, and the experience felt very much like working with an old-school local family business that truly values relationships with their customers. If you're looking for a jeweler who will take the time to work with you, think creatively, and help you find something that fits both your vision and your budget, I'd absolutely recommend stopping in to Scotts Valley Jewelers!

My grandmother had a few pieces of vintage jewelry that over the years my mother had pulled from to make other pieces (matching necklaces for my sisters and me, etc.). She wanted as many family members as possible to have a part of this sentimental jewelry. After her passing, it was up to me to make sure her wishes were met that each of my nieces receive an item made from a pendant of my grandmother's. It seemed important to have the right jeweler for this special project, and it only took a few minutes with William Greene to know we'd found the right people. Not only did he light up when he heard about the project, but he shared that he had inherited this business from his father and it was in his blood to make sentimental jewelry from heirloom items. Over the course of a few months, William and his wife created some beautiful designs that allowed my nieces to have unique pieces from the same pendant. It was such a moving way to honor my mother, and felt so good that they seemed invested in the project too. The four rings, and a drop necklace were all perfect and my nieces were so moved to receive them. William also restored and resized a ring of my grandmother's that I'm now able to wear. Fast forward a few years when my husband was getting ready to propose. When he learned that I was in possession of my mother's wedding ring and would like to have it reset as my own, he knew immediately whom to work with. He remembered a conversation from an early date about my meeting with William, who made a hard time mourning my mother a little lighter by his excitement to create such special pieces. He knew that William should be the one to make yet another precious item, the one I'll wear the rest of our lives. When my husband reached out to William and his wife, they remembered me and the past project. They were so happy to work with him on this next big item, and they even were able to work with him remotely, making sure that the ring was shipped with insurance. I love my ring, and I love that William and his wife were able to be such a part of my family's story, spreading that beautiful legacy of heirlooms to new generations. Our one minor note on both the projects would be that the communication on progress could've been a bit more consistent. However, the stunning finished products and the feeling behind the work far outweighs any minor delays in communication.
