The therapists are great, the front desk girls are really nice and helpful. I especially want to mention Travis, a physical therapy aide, because the level of care and effort he puts into helping patients is special. He takes time with every person, explains exercises carefully, makes sure they are done correctly, and patiently waits to see if the patient understands. What impressed me most is that this is not only based on my own experience. I watched him help other patients with the same kindness, patience, and attention. Super friendly staff! My schedule changes a lot & they are so great when I have to reschedule appointments! The therapists are so knowledgeable, friendly & thorough! I felt improvement after the first 2 sessions. The only thing I can imagine being a bit overwhelming for some... is it's one big open room and there is no privacy. I went to Vargo for over a year, for my total reverse shoulder replacement, and briefly for my neck. I can't say enough about how wonderful they are. They are great about scheduling. Everybody is so nice, and supportive, and knowledgeable. I felt that my program was tailored specifically to me. My progress was closely monitored. My requests were accommodated, and remembered. I started coming to Vargo for back pain. So far, I've had 3 appointments and I just cancelled my next appointment because I'm not too happy with the experience. I don't feel that it is really helping me. The place is just kind of awkward. You go into a large room full of tables and you're set up at a table and instructed to do these exercises that they assign you to do at home as well. You're close to other people and sometimes the space feels too tight. It feels like a waste of time honestly. I could just be doing this at home. There were previous reviews mentioning how impersonal the experience was, and I 100% agree with that. There is no consistency in therapists. You hardly ever see an actual physical therapist. It's mostly the assistants that come up and tell you the exercises to do, then they walk away. Each time I've been to an appointment, I've been instructed differently on how to do certain exercises, so now I really don't know how to do them correctly. Nobody stays to ensure you're even doing them correctly. They seem very unorganized and inconsistent and like everybody is doing the same thing. It honestly does seem like an insurance scam, as also previously mentioned in a review a while back. Wouldn't recommend Vargo if you're looking for physical therapy. read more

I've been going to this location for 10 years off and on. Steve and David are phenomenal physical therapists as well as Josh. I see some of these other reviews and honestly I call BS. Steve has never once in the 10+ years I have been going here, ever been rude or condescending to ANY of his employees. On the contrary, he's patient and very respectful. I also saw where one review said they never saw a physical therapist the entire visit. Again, wrong. Each visit at Vargo includes 15 minutes with the therapist doing massage. Youre offered ice afterwards. The only time this doesn't happen is the 1st 1 hour consult where they measure range of motion and put a plan together for you but every single visit you see a physical therapist. Last but not least, Hazel doesnt have a bad or rude bone in her body. She's always polite and helpful. The person who called her rude was almost certainly the rude one. Steve's amazing he assessed my needs so perfectly I had one of the most difficult foot surgery recoveries and I'm gaining strength and learning how to walk effectively again and it's giving me back my life. Many reasons for my 5 Star rating! Front desk is always helpful and never a problem to get an appointment or move an appointment. The place is clean and well managed. I was at some other physical therapy place before and they were very mechanical and didn't give me the attention like Vargo put into my recovery. Steve did evaluation and actually came up with very good suggestions why my ankle injury still hurts after 3 years and Steve & his staff got me the care & exercise I need to recover more and analyze my ankle weakness due to 2 painful work accidents. I am going to give Vargo a very good rating because Erika Hall, PT, DPT was so professional while simultaneously being nurturing and healing! Vargo is a very busy place. My first time for Physical Therapy, so it was a busy commune in my mind to my surprise - people sharing tables and exercise equipment (yikes for a germaphobe like me), but Erika had a calming effect that made it all doable. I would recommend Erika and Vargo to anyone, especially if you are a first-timer. The staff was very courteous and hard-working as well. When I first called to make my appointment, there was a mix-up at the front desk that never was resolved. I don't know if that is normal there or not, but the young lady at the front that insisted I was wrong actually said it in a very nice genuine tone. So I just rolled with it. The PT aids and the front desk are very nice, and that's about the only good thing about this PT office. You are pretty much being billed to come in and do exercises by yourself. They are mostly unsupervised and a lot of the time you are doing them wrong. The main physical therapist / manager Steven treats the staff very poorly and yells at/ degrades them loudly in front of patients. The place is unorganized (I've overheard 2 separate conversations about a patient's missing chart and a patient being told to do the wrong exercises). I went for about a month with no improvement to my injury, I now go somewhere else and have noticed immediate improvement. read more

I highly recommend this Vargo Physical Therapy facility. I started PT here in January and was just discharged today after almost 6 months. All of the staff are very welcoming and friendly; they really care about you as opposed to just putting you through a bunch of exercises to check off on a chart. They challenged me to progress with increasingly difficult exercises, but always adjusted things when an exercise was just not doable given my physical limitations at the time. I guess other PT facilities might have given me the same exercises, but the overall caring attitude of all of the personnel cannot be faked. During months of PT, motivation at times can be a challenge. Knowing that they really care about you getting better makes it so much easier to go there on those days when you feel like just sleeping in and skipping the work to be done. I can't speak about other Vargo locations, but this one is exceptional!!! read more

Steve does an amazing job managing this facility while working on patients as well. His entire team is friendly, extremely conscious of your treatment ensuring you do your exercises correctly, encourage you to reach new goals but are not in any pain while doing your session. If assistance is needed helping you get on/off the workout table or equipment help is gladly given to you, no one casts any judgement and everyone is very respectful. For me this was huge, as I am a very large woman and not once have I felt uncomfortable during my sessions. When I started going to this office I could barely move, in tremendous pain and was using a walker. I've been going here for approximately 4 months I no longer need my walker plus I can get up and down from the workout table with ease. One of my favorite procedures while doing my PT is the massage, yes every session a Physical Therapist will work on the area you're in treatment for. All of these therapist take great care to make sure you are comfort and experience as little pain as possible. Also, this office also gives you a feeling that its safe from COVID as they follow the protocols sanctioned for this type of business. I like that you see the employees sanitizing the tables and equipment it gives you a level of comfort knowing it has been cleaned. Last but not least, as soon as you walk in you the door you are greeted by Racheal the vivacious, friendly and extremely efficient multi-taster manning the front desk. Even though she wearing a mask you can tell she's smiling. She is extremely helpful, and sets the tone for this facility. Everyone one of Steve's employees are courteous, kind, knowledgeable, has lots of patience, and very personable calling each patient by name. I fondly think of them as my PT family. Following lipedema surgery therapist Alex was really able to help my leg tissue with ASTYM. This therapy location Truly knows what they're doing. We have been sent to the facility in the past. This time we were hoping for a better experience. The receptionist, Hazel, was very rude, made some unkind comments under her breath. We waited patiently for our Physical Therapist, Kerry. She drank her Starbucks for about 15 minutes before sending a student to bring us back. The student was very kind. He asked an aide to stand by while my daughter performed exercises. Unfortunately, he had not been made aware of what she was allowed to do by the student and attempted to move her leg into a position which potential could have damaged her operation. Like I mentioned, he was told, so the negligence was accidental. We never met the physical therapist during the visit. I do not recommend this location. Hopefully, we will get an explanation. read more

I have had only good experiences working with Vargo Sherman Oaks for my back injury. I have found the employees to be professional, personable and caring. Manager, Steve Eaton, has his eyes on everyone, employees and patients, at all times and is constantly juggling a very busy floor. I had a situation early on when a male patient was chatting with me and Steve was concerned that the man might be acting inappropriately. He quietly asked me if everything was OK and, as a single woman, I was extremely impressed that he noticed and acted. Nothing gets by him. The staff has been proactive about assessing my progress and modifying my program as needed. I am improving and will continue to work through it with these hardworking professionals. Rachel is by far the most incompetent and least service minded person I've ever encountered! She talks over you and raises her voice without listening or even trying to help. I just needed to make an appointment and since I had my doctors office provide them with the a copy of my referral as well as a copy of my insurance information...this should have been an easy process. Rachel was so incredibly rude that I've decided to take my business elsewhere and I've informed my doctors office of this encounter. They stated that I am not the first patient that have provided them with this feedback regarding Rachel, and that they now will refrain from sending patients to the Sherman Oaks location. The guys here are great. They helped me get my hip back in shape. It is a fun place. They do a lot of different modalities. And lastly, they make you feel seen. I will be back if I have another need. What a true disappointment! After reading all of the positive reviews and tried to get in. I have Full PPO insurance coverage, and before my first session, they demanded that I pay up-front for a few visits until my deductible was met. The receptionist was pleasant and called her Manager. She stated it was simply "company policy" to pay now. I have seen 4 different doctors and got an MRI within the past week in order to get Phys. Therapy, and my deductible was the least of my worries since I had already shelled out well over triple my deductible. There was no negotiation, no compromise, no understanding - just pay now and force me to deal with getting reimbursed from my Health Ins. Sorry - but if this greedy uncaring attitude is how we start, it can only go downhill. They lost me as a potential customer and a large referral source. I'm sure the staff is fine, but you gotta start off right when pain is involved. I didn't feel respected - just another source of cash to get me in and out as soon as possible. read more

My Orthopedc Dr recommended six weeks of PT here 2x a week. After my first session I debated whether to return. It was terrible and impersonal. The therapy is designed so part time assistants and PT students from a local university all take turns helping you do it yourself with a set of exercises. They leave you and call out across the space to check in on you. It's terrible. The PT student is supposed to devote 20 minutes of every 45 minute session to you personally. I clocked them in at ten minutes every time t what amounted to a mall massage. I called the Manager after my first session to complain about the impersonal experience I had my first session. He was kind, listened and assured me that was not their normal. I returned and yes it was. Nothing changed. I stayed reluctantly counting down my sessions until I was done. In fact I skipped the last week. They also had terrible Covid protocols. The room was usually packed, about 20 people at each appt. with clients, assts and PT students all commingling. Very little sanitizing visible. I felt gross there. I had to fight them to use the one bottle of purell in the middle of the room after using common equipment not wiped down. I'd never go there again or recommend it. It felt like an insurance scam from beginning to end. Yuck. read more

I have to say, I LOVE VARGO! Yup! That's honestly how I feel. I went there almost two years ago; and, when I was finished with my physical therapy, I walked out of there feeling strong and steady on my feet. I felt like a new person. I recently fell twice on my right side (Yikes!), and I re-injured my shoulders, back, and knees. My wonderful doctor immediately sent me to physical therapy, and I again chose Vargo without even having to think about it. Steve and all of the people who work there, from the front desk to the physical therapists and physical therapy assistants, are so supportive, always helping me to make sure that I'm doing my exercises in just the right way so that I can heal, and easily moving around my appointments when necessary. I had the physical ailments of a 90 year-old woman even when I was a teenage boy. So as we fast forward a couple decades, physical therapy is a necessity. This broken down lemon of a body had been taken all over town before winding up at Vargo. No, it wasn't my first rodeo...or second...or third...so I'm pleased to say this is the place for me! Amy, the physical therapist, is truly a master of what she does. She has years of experience...an incredible personality...the hands of a magician...not to mention an accent that sounds like one of Da Bears guys from Saturday Night Live. Broke the hell out of my ankle earlier this year playing kickball. (yeah... I know.) Anyway, after recovering from surgery and spending 8 weeks in a cast, my leg was jelly, and I was in serious need of PT. Jesse, Amy, Jimmy and all the rest of the staff at Vargo are top notch. I always felt like I was in capable hands and they really care for their patients. After a couple months of PT, I've regained full range of motion and am well on my way to being back to normal... or at least as normal as it gets with a titanium plate in your leg. When I first walked into the place, it looks like it's decorated like a Day Care center. My first time there and they had me waiting 15 min. after my appt. time. The therapist who was suppose to help me finally acknowledged me, then started talking to the clerk, then to the owner of the place about social events. Finally, she got me started with a few exercises like leg lifts. Then she hooked me up to a pulsing machine to vibrate on my leg. Then we were done. It all took 30 minutes for a 1 hour session. I couldn't wait to get out of there feeling like this place is a big waste of time. I will never go back. I really felt like they had no respect of my time being there. read more

I broke my left humerus ( arm ) in 3 places trying my neighbor to help find her cat. well, I ended up falling down a hill after my flip flop got caught in a huge crack in the asphalt & I went on my feet downhill smashing into a concrete wall at age over 60. Agony & trying to do everything with one arm was awful. I ended up at Vargo and loved the place. I still have 7 more sessions to go but was even hesitant to go to any therapy. I thought i could do it on my own. I am so glad I'm going & got to the right place. it's been 3 months since my fall and never had surgery so I'm hoping that this cast is the right way to go. I had routine bunion surgery and my doctor offered PT to speed my healing. I found out my ankle was weak and was taught a ton of exercises for mobility and strength. Nermin and Michael and the rest of the crew are so friendly and informative. Raychel at the front desk is great too. Kirsten and Kristen are da best! Was in about a year ago with a torn calf. They made sure I got to do anything and everything I could to get back out on the basketball court. A lot of times I'd be in there w a bunch of older people and they'd have me running up and down the middle aisle of their place in front all the other patients and making a bunch of noise and they didn't care because it's what I needed for my therapy. I came out of there in great shape with my calf feeling excellent. Beyond that they are all great people to spend some time with while you're in recovery...the assistants Lev and Knark are awesome and knowledgeable and Sally the receptionist is really sweet and helpful as well!
