Our cars have been serviced here twice, and we experienced EXCELLENT service both times! First: my husband car broke down, had to be towed to a service station. AAA recommended some place, but the tow truck driver brought us here. It was 8pm, and they were open! Many expensive cars were parked in the lot, which showed me that they must have a great reputation. His car was fixed the next day, and the price was amazing for what he had done. Second: I was nearing a flat tire and risked driving 8 miles on the highway to get here. I went in at 7:30am on a Saturday morning and was seen right away. The technician showed my what was wrong with my tire, fixed it on the spot and showed me how it was fixed. We are new to the area and are SO happy to our found our mechanic so quickly! read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. They're a bunch of crooks. First off I was charged $225 for an oil change and to fix an apparent plug that had been glued on with th last oil change which THEY did. So already I'm paying for an issue that was caused by them. I let it slide. This next time I had an issue with my car window not working and the switch panel needing to be replaced. They told me they'd take a look at it and called me to tell me what I already knew, that it needed to be replaced. I was told the part cost $170 per my search it was selling for 30-70 bucks. When I told him I'd buy the part myself he then proceeded to tell me that I would have to pay labor for their diagnostic that day. $120 to tell me a switch was broken, in addition to the price being inflated. I pitched a fit and refused to pay. The next day I took the car to a mechanic a friend recommended and the guy showed me how to replace the part myself free of charge. Amazing what sleeze balls they are at Varcados Shell. Total crooks. read more

WARNING: DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE!! This is the first negative review I have ever written on yelp but my absolutely horrific experience here warrants one. I have been getting gas and inspections here for years as it's a very convenient location for me, and the men who worked here were always very friendly and I had never had an issue here. A few days ago I was having trouble with my car starting so I called and told them what was going on and dropped it off here, in part because it's very close to where I live. A couple hours later they called and told me I needed a new battery and alternator, which would cost $1400. I was surprised about the alternator so I called a mechanic I know who specializes in Land Rovers and told him what was going on with my car and he said that, based on our conversation, my car showed no signs of needing a new alternator, just a new battery (it hadn't been driven for 4 months as I had been out of town). I called Dino, the owner of Varcados shell, and told him to hold off on the new alternator and just give me a new battery. He seemed bothered by this and said my car probably wouldn't start the next day but okay and that the battery costs $250. I told him that was fine. I go to pick up my car later that day and they charged me $446 and all I got was a new battery!!! He was overly defensive when I asked about the price and told me the "diagnosis" was not free and that I just didn't understand. Because I expressed how shocked and upset I was about the price he said "I can't do business with you" and then told the man at the cashier that if I ever come there again not to serve me. I told him I wasn't going to pay that exorbitant price for the "diagnosis" and he threatened to call the police. I wound up paying because I had to be somewhere in the next half hour but it was a TERRIBLE experience and I got completely ripped off and taken advantage of. ON TOP OF THIS the very next day I take my car to a trusted mechanic to have the alternator checked, which he did at no cost, and turns out there is absolutely nothing wrong with my alternator and it is, in fact, in great shape (my car has less than 60,000 miles on it). The fact that I was charged around $150 for a false diagnosis and then misled to believe that my car wouldn't start the next day if I didn't replace my alternator is deplorable. Had I not called the Land Rover mechanic I would have wound up spending $1400 at this Varcados Shell to replace a perfectly good alternator. I will never again take my car here, not even for gas, and I regret ever having done so. BE VERY CAREFUL IF YOU DO DECIDE TO TAKE YOUR CAR HERE. They are not to be trusted. read more

What I love about Varcados Shell gas station is the warm reception you get from the staff when you go there for gas or service. It's a throw back to the old days I remember growing up as far as gas stations go. Now they're little mini grocery stores with gas. Having a service garage with mechanics you can get to know is fantastic. I recommend this place to anyone who's looking for superior service. read more

They have an in ground Dyno that can perform State Inspections for older cars that require low ground clearance. They did the state inspection on my Ferrari 355 perfectly. The people there were all very nice and the place was very pleasant. Recommend this place.... Thanks! read more

I have been to this service station a handful of times over the past 2 years. I have had 3 oil changes, 2 car washes and the occasional stop for gas and a red bull. The place is smack dab in the middle of my house and work so it couldn't be a better location for me. The guys who run the joint give off a Greek/ Italian mafioso vibe. On my lunch break last week I went here to get an oil change and a car wash. I parked and started walking towards the entrance where one of the crew was standing. I told him I wanted a basic car wash and oil change. He said "go talk to the Mexican in the back for the car wash". It came off as coarse, but the wise guy was pushing 70 - what do you want me to do, teach him a lesson in PC? So I walked around back and found a guy waxing a Rover and told him I wanted an interior vacuum and a basic car wash. He informed me that his crew only did the detail work and that I need to talk to the guys up front about a basic wash and pointed out the Cosa Nostra that were toweling off a car coming out of the touch less wash. Ooookie-dokie... So back around to the front, I saw my co-worker who was waiting for me and gave him the 1 minute signal. Inside, the same wise guy was behind the counter now and I told him that I didn't want detail work, just a basic wash and vacuum. He yelled back at me "I told you already, you need to talk to the Mexicans in the back there for a car wash!". I yelled back at him, speaking sarcastically slow, like to a child "I want my car washed by the machine and vacuumed - I don't want wax or shampooed carpets - just a basic wash and an oil change". He started flailing his hands around above his head and kept yelling again about the Mexicans in the back and how many times does he need to say it. I thought this was amusing and I had my phone in my hand so I quickly opened snapchat so I could entertain my friends with his antics, but by the time I started filming he had stopped. We stared at each other in silence for a solid 5 seconds before I broke it by asking him if I was actually in fact doing something wrong in asking for services that their gas station has performed for me multiple times in the past. He gave the the mafia style wave off thing that they do when they want you to leave. Upon turning around to walk out, I saw there was a customer who witnessed the whole thing, so if you're reading this then give me a thumbs up or something. They didn't get my business, which seems to have been his goal in the first place for some reason. And I drive a 2011 vehicle with after market wheels and tires. It's not like I don't fit their target demographic in the middle of memorial park & up town. If you go here for service, be ready for an argument. If you go here for entertainment, have your camera ready and be ready for an argument. TLDR - there's an old underboss who works here who's basically the Soup Nazi of gas stations. read more

Thirty minutes before I had to be at work my husband called and said my tire was flat....huh? I guess my apartment manager had called him. I ran out to my car in a panic. Thankfully, the tire had just some some air. I drove to Varcados Shell to put some air in the tire so I could get to work. ****THIS PART OF THE EXPERIENCE -WORKING WITH TONI P. WOULD BE 5 STAR SERVICE****I pulled up to this gas station and right as I was about to attempt to put air in my tire, Toni P. came over and waved me away. He told me to bring the car around to the front. I did and got my tire refilled for FREE(woo hoo! and I didn't have to try to figure out how to use the machine to check the pressure :) I asked Toni if he thought I had any other problem with my tire. He had me move my wheel and spotted a nail. He said it could be patched. I ask him if I could drive on it for a few miles since I had to meet a client. He said I'd be fine. I went on my way and told him I'd be back in about 2 hours. ***THIS PART OF THE EXPERIENCE WOULD BE 0 STARS*****When I brought the car back, I found Toni again. He had me pull up but another repairman came over as well. This guy said there was NO WAY he would just patch the tire because he "cares more about my life than my pocket change"....Given the fact that Toni had told me he could patch it I was a little wary of this new assessment. I asked the 2nd guy if he could check on the price of a new tire. WHILE HE WAS GONE, Toni told me that if I didn't feel comfortable getting a new tire, I should say so and ask to have it patched. When guy #2 came back with the price, I said I just wanted to have my tire patched for now. HE STARTED YELLING AT ME ABOUT HOW MY LIFE IS MORE IMPORTANT TO HIM THAN MY POCKET CHANGE....yea....right.... Needless to say, I thanked this guy for his opinion but said I would have someone else check it out. HE CONTINUED TO YELL AT ME saying I would hear the same advice elsewhere but I might die in the process of getting a second opinion. I said I would take the chance. I brought my car to my trusted repairman Robbie at Nexar and he confirmed what Toni had told me. Robbie referred me to Tire Maximum and my tire has been going strong ever since :) BOTTOM LINE: Toni is 5 Star-he went out of his way to help me and was honest when I said I might have a nail in my tire....HOWEVER, at least one of the other guys in on a mission to up-sell and can't be trusted. If I had only seen Toni it would be a 5-star spot. But this other guy tried to put fear into me and make me feel like a man in a jewelry store-NOT COOL, NOT HONEST, not worthy of any stars. Bad brake job costed me extra $600 I had to pay at 2nd shop to do it right! I even went back to them first to correct the problem and they said they are not sure what it is... So of course I have to goto a 2nd place that noticed the issue immediately, corrected it and gave me old parts to prove what Shell did wrong! If you need a quick fix and happen to be passing by 610 and Memorial, be sure to bypass Varcados Shell and go to the Chevron across the street instead. Otherwise, take your business to a shop whose mechanics can guarantee their work and treat women with respect. I have never been so disrespected at an autoshop as I have at Varcados Shell. "Even a woman could see that," Stephen said to show that even a simple, ignorant female could tell that my vehicle's plug was brand new, and therefore take no responsibility for the botched oil change a few months prior. They are the reason women fear going to auto mechanic shops. They are the reason why I refuse to go there again and will continue to go to small, family run auto shops (not on major interstates) who guarantee their work and take responsibility when they cause damage after a simple, routine oil change. read more

I brought my car to the service station twice and would highly recommend them for both service and quality of work. Most recently, my cars engine was running very rough. They were able to diagnose the mis-firing engine problems with their computer and make the repair the same day at a reasonable price. I was impressed that they took the time to explain the repair in detail, were always friendly, and offered to drive me home while the repair was being made. Overall, I had two great experiences and they are now my go-to place for car service. read more
