I wanted to give an updated review for Vaquero Beach Park, because the reviews on here are a bit outdated. The beach is open for swimming, despite the fact that there is no lifeguard on duty. A sheriff came by in a patrol boat a couple of times to remind people to stay in the swimming area, which is delineated by a series of orange buoys. It's pretty easy to see. On a Sunday morning, we got there around 9:30 and the parking lot was filling rapidly. We got a spot near the water. The beach filled quickly with families and a party atmosphere. Loud music, easy-ups, general party vibe. A few trees for shade, but those areas were already taken. When we entered, we received a piece of paper explaining there was an algae bloom, and basically don't drink the water. There were particles of green algae throughout the water, but it didn't bother me, nor make me feel sick. There were no leeches that affected our party, nor the people around us. There are no pyramid structures on lake; the construction of the reservoir required come terraced cutting away of the mountains surrounding the water, and they look like pyramids when driving by on the freeway. They can't be seen from the beach. It was $15 for a single vehicle to enter. If you're looking for a quiet nature getaway, this is probably not the place; at least on the weekend. read more
