I Love Vapiano!
James M.

We love Vapiano, and in the category of Fast-Casual dining, this location in Zurich easily earns Four Stars. I read, with great interest, the comments from other Yelpers, and I found their comments really valid. Swiss Vapianos are more expensive than Vapianos in other countries ... but isn't everything more expensive in Switzerland? The kitchens are really noisy, but our cook, Sebastian, was patient, helped us with pasta choices and ingredients, and chatted up a storm while he was preparing our Spaghetti Carbonara (CHF 19.50) and Pesto Basilico with Campanelle (CHF 17.50). English wasn't his first language, but he made a great effort, which we appreciated, and we responded with really inadequate German, Italian, and frankly, on my part, just distorted English. We enjoyed ourselves, and I feel the service was excellent, and the Carbonara and Pesto Basilico were delicious (Thank You, Sebastian!). The restaurant was busy -- there was no seating left in the dining room, so we went upstairs to the Terrace -- which should have been our first choice, because it was very pleasant. Despite the crowd, the restaurant was clean, tables bussed as soon as they became available, and the restrooms clean, well lighted and orderly. Four Stars.

Pizza Salame & Amarone wine
I-Lin L.

My friends and I were looking for a place to eat dinner on Friday night, and unfortunately, it was a bit impossible to get a table in the city center without a reservation. So we went to Vapiano because it wasn't too packed. This was my first time in this branch, and I decided to get a salami pizza and glass of Amarone wine. The food was fresh and delicious as always. I usually don't like salami, but I gobbled my pizza all up. We sat upstairs in the corner of the lounge area by the window and had a lovely view of the plaza across the street. Not sure what building it was, but the rooftop was lined with statues and looked beautiful when lit up at dusk.

Monthly special 19.50 CHF-zucchini with mozzarella

3.5 stars. If you are nervous about trying a new place and have been to Vapiano, you can expect about the same everything at this Vapiano. Except for the fact that the price is 2 x the prices of other countries (e.g. US or EU). Pizza or Pasta are around 20 CHF. Everything is made-to-order. You pick what you want in your pasta/pizza and ask the cooks to make it for you. Almost self-service so you don't have to wait for servers and choose your own seat. Tap water and pieces of bread available for free.

Pasta Carbonara with fiery red chillis toppings!

Pasta and pizza! Express Italian fast food service. Love the carbonara but it is tasteless without putting extra salt on it. My first Vapiano visit was in Germany and I totally like the idea as it is quick and delicious. Love the atmosphere and interior deco in this restaurant, a place to hangout BUT the manager need to do something with the air condition/ventilation. The restaurant is full of smoke, oil the moment u stepped in - yea all the cooking and pizza baking. Sigh, this is a big drawback when come to enjoying a meal. Price wise is good as it is around 19-26 for a bowl of pasta... Various sauces and topping to choose from. The best I guess is the handmade pasta! You can also buy the uncooked pasta to take home! Yumm, it is just like the Italian grandmother recipe :) enjoy!

Single best vegetarian restaurant I've been to in my life. I went to two different locations…read morebecause I couldn't believe it was so good. A buffet with fifty or so super fresh offerings at a great price. They say they're the oldest vegetarian restaurant in the world. Maybe. I'd check China and India.

Yelp Review 2026 #64:…read more I'm not vegetarian and definitely not vegan. But I will dabble with the veg from time to time. Hiltl is popular for being the world's oldest vegetarian restaurant in the world. Here's information I will share that I wish was available before planning to come here. You must make a reservation for lunch/ dinner because that's when they're busy. Breakfast is for walk-ins and they don't do reservations. Hop on their website and be sure you're on the right location because they have several within a 2-mile radius...some on the same street. I went here to try their breakfast buffet. I wasn't sure how busy they got for breakfast so, I got here at 6:30am because I got the wrong information online! They open at 7am. Different locations have different hours. Check their website for actual hours and don't trust review site information because it's wrong! They're not busy for breakfast at all. There's 2 ways to do their buffet. You can pay a fixed price and fill your plate multiple times or go and fill your plate once and pay based on the weight of your food - you get free bread. I did the pay-by-weight option. I have a whole day of eating planned so, I wasn't about to fill up for breakfast. When they opened at 7am, they were still putting the food out one by one. By 7:20, all the food was out which was fine. I was in no rush. The spread includes fresh fruits, cheeses, butter, margarine, cheesecake, chocolate mousse, mango mousse, mango chia pudding, banana chocolate brownie crumble, a pear dessert (with cream, vanilla and orange), rosti, scrambled eggs, potato salad, tomato and mozzarella salad, beets, chickpeas, olives, couscous, corn salad, olives, asparagus, green peas, feta cheese, hardboiled eggs, curry salad, dolmades, broccoli and edamame, artichoke salad, bulgur salad, tabbouleh, orecchiette tofu salad, Thai salad, hummus, guacamole, muhammara, etc. They have 6 types of bread. Slice a piece and toast it yourself. Vegan and vegetarian food tend to taste strongly of coconut/ coconut milk and I don't like that. My favorites from the buffet include chocolate mousse, mango mousse, banana chocolate brownie crumble, dolmades, asparagus, orecchiette tofu salad, and Thai salad. I got a mango lassi to drink which I didn't like. It had curry powder. Service was pleasant. The restaurant was clean.

So there are two parts to this restaurant. The front part is a beer garden with a self service menu and live entertainment, however me and my brother ate at the back restaurant which had table service (and more comfy chairs along with the river view). I got fantastic local lamb chops that came with polenta, and delicious tomato/ eggplant/ bell pepper melange. My bother got local fish that came with a side of spinach and rice. The menu (they had them in English -yay!) had two options for the main course - a small plate and a big plate. We both got the big plate and it was so much food for both of us, that thank god they gave us a doggy bag (the food was too good to be just thrown). We ended up also splitting dessert - the cake was wonderfully warm and rich and nutty and accompanied by excellent ice-cream and fresh cream as well as two coffees. The cost for all this between the two of us came to CHF125 so def way more than we had planned to spend at lunch but service was quick and very pleasant, food was pretty good and views were blissful, so while pleased found this place, the hit to the wallet was unexpected. Oh yeah - also no wifi and only 4 stalls in the ladies loo (!) so there was a line (as usual).

Never have I ever been to a restaurant where a menu item doesn't come to your table with this much minimal effort put in platting the dish. The carrots where hole and poorly washed as were the radishes. The carrots were not even peeled, but came to the table whole! The green Carrot tops included. The pamesan cheese came served in a few big chuncks. The hummus was horrible, as were the tapenades of olive and tomatoe. I didn't even bother chewing the carrots and just left them on the cutting board. Certainly quite the experience, but I do not recommend it. Great views but you can find it elsewhere around the lake too.

Mums and their brood are often found having a sit-down and chin-wag within the walls of the place. I visit now and again when there are clothing 'exchanges' and holiday craft fairs housed on the first floor. Courses of various description are also to be had here. There is always a roster of events posted on a sandwich board on the pavement out front letting one know what's on at the Treff. You can't miss it. They also serve food, during the nicer months, in a side garden that over looks a field with grazing sheep. It's a very idyllic scene. Best of all, the kitchen is open Sundays and, if I'm not mistaken, serves until five pm. My only quibble with Q.H. is that the coffee is barely palatable. Wash it down with a pastry and it's less unsavory. :) The place is, after all, very visually inviting.

This building is right off the Burgwies stop along the Tram 11 line. When I first saw it, I thought it looked kind of like a barn. Not that I've ever seen a real barn up close, but I suppose this would be what I would consider what a barn looks like. ;) REALLY old building made of wood planks with uneven walls and floorboards that creaked when you walked on them. Kind of homey and cozy, painted in an assortment of colors, and I suppose a perfect setting for a cupcake decorating class. Outside our room, there was a coat rack to hang up our coats and a sink for easy hand washing. The toilets were actually downstairs, and it was nice to note that the restrooms and sinks were modernized. :)

Great restaurant with a great concept in a great location…read more My family and I love coming to Vapiano. The location in the Sihlcity Shopping Complex is super convenient to reach by bus, by tram or by train. We often meet here for dinner and then everyone can get home easily from here. The menu is not very extensive but definitely solid. Everything is cooked to order. My personal favorite is the Surf & Turf salad. I've had it quite a few times and enjoyed it every time. The beef and prawns are grilled and put on top of a bed of leafy salad accompanied with grilled fresh vegetables such as eggplants, yellow and red bell peppers. The whole thing is topped with sliced parmesan and their own house made mustard salad dressing which really makes this salad a home run. I am craving it right now just from writing about it! At Fr. 24.90, it's definitely not cheap, but worth it to me. The pizzas on the other hand, are less than stellar. I've tried a couple of different ones, they're just ok, nothing spectacular and really on the salty side. The pastas are very nice, house made and fresh with savory sauces. The desserts are also all house made. Comes in two sizes, mostly delectable. A great finish to an enjoyable meal. Most of the dishes are prepared in front of you in a speedy fashion. Servers are friendly. There are a lot of seating space on the second level than the ground level. The only drawback is the Monday to Friday lunch rush. The place gets packed to the gills from all the office employees in nearby buildings you can hardly find a table upstairs or downstairs or outside. Best to arrive before noon or after 1pm if you like to have conversation over a nice meal without having to yell at each other.

I'm definitely not lame for reviewing my favourite ETH mensa (cafeteria)…read more Despite being a cafeteria, this one is definitely more on the 'deluxe' side, serving Asia-related food (not quite Asian). Some people come to avoid the student mass at lunch time, but that's definitely not the only reason to come here. Lunch consists of three options: meat, veggie, and stir-fry which change with the daily menu. Each is named to represent one Asian country, but as far as I can tell, there's very little connection between the food and the country it's named for. But you get the idea, they serve "Asian" food (curry, tofu, stews, and recently, even some kind of bubble tea that would never be recognized in Taiwan). If you're touring the city center or passing by ETH for some reason, I'd definitely recommend this for a cost-effective meal. The price for the daily menu is CHF 8.5 or CHF 12.5 for the stir-fry. Now, that's the price for students, so if you're an ETH employee or outsider, it'll be a bit pricier... maybe 3-5 francs more. The meat/veggie options are typically so-so but the on-the-spot stir-fry is pretty good (and not so subsidized so you'd pay about the same as students). The Asian chef looks quite seasoned and sometimes puts on a good show with the flame :D. Unfortunately, meals are only served during lunch time. There was a period when they tried out dinner but I guess it didn't really work out and it's discontinued now.
