A pretty tough job... 90-100' tree very close to the house. They have their own crane truck which was essential and they know how to use it... literally swinging branches (that on their own were the size of a decent tree) down from the top and gently laying them down in the yard to be cut up and hauled away. A small, delicate Japanese maple was very close to the base of the 50"+ diameter trunk of the tree they took out and they didn't ruffle a leaf on the maple. Stump grinding and clean up the following day. Did this in early March so we need it warm up a bit first, but they'll be back to complete the clean up, spread some topsoil and grass seed in a month or so. Highly recommended!

We hired them to trim one mature beech tree for $5,000 and paid a 50% deposit ($2,500) to secure a spot on their calendar. However, we never actually had a specific date scheduled. No crew was assigned, no equipment was reserved, and no timeline was ever confirmed. After signing, we obtained a second opinion from a certified arborist and decided to cancel. As per their contract, we forfeited 50% of the deposit ($1,250), despite the fact that they incurred zero costs related to our project. I take responsibility for not scrutinizing the cancellation clause more closely. However, a 50% penalty is wildly excessive at this preliminary stage. The contract even includes a clause offering a "full credit" if we rebook later, which proves they are willing to apply this money to future work rather than absorb a loss. If they can give 100% credit for future services, they are not suffering a 50% financial hit by issuing a cash refund. When I asked the owner to negotiate a reasonable administrative fee (e.g., a few hundred dollars for their time writing the estimate), he refused to engage in good faith. I would have happily paid for their time, but keeping $1,250 for zero services rendered feels punitive, not compensatory. Advice to future customers: Read the cancellation clause very carefully. I would ask this specific question: If I cancel before you assign a specific work date to my job, what is the actual cancellation fee? Don't assume a deposit is refundable just because they haven't done any work. Get the answer in writing before you sign. Bottom line: This is a $1,250 lesson where one needs to read every line and get cancellation terms in writing before paying a deposit.

I hired this company last spring for lawn mowing and fall clean up. The mowing went fine, and the…read moreowner called in Oct. to discuss clean up. No date was set, as we left it at "after most of the leaves are down". By mid November I started to wonder, by late November I was rather frantically trying to contact them via phone and email, afraid the snow would fall and my 1/2 acre lawn in the woods would be ruined. After 2 weeks of attempts, I finally reached the owner, who said he'd sold the business to his partner, and gave me (erronious) contact info. After more futile calls and e-mails, I gave up and paid 3x my estimate for an "emergency" clean up on Nov. 28th. This business is out of business, as far as I can determine. Do not use.

When we first moved in, we noticed that the tree looked like it had been sealed with some black tar and we worried about its health. We called West Michigan Tree Services to come take a look at it, and they gave us some advice and a care plan. They treated the tree and injected some fertilizer into the roots. They did some other work to it as well in order to give it the best possible outcome. I'd hate to lose this tree, so I'm willing to invest some money into its care. Each spring I receive a tree care contract via email that includes the cost of service for that year and what will be done. If you pre-pay before a certain date, you get a 10% discount, and the work is done that spring. We've been doing this for the past few years, and our tree is looking great!
