One of the basic health services we should all use is going to a dentist twice a year for a cleaning and general health checkup. Many people don't do this because of some nasty experience (painful) with dentists they visited in the past. I have used DDS Miller & Sullivan for probably 15 + years and highly recommend them to the community. While Miller & Sullivan are really good with the higher end procedures, most of your time is spent with the dental hygienist. They are the ones who really do the hard work and they can really make your visit positive. (I was going to use enjoyable instead of positive but that is going too far.) All the staff are professional and I don't have any qualms about my dental checkups.

The reception staff was very friendly and welcoming when I was making my appointment and when I checked in. The hygienist who took the x-rays and completed the cleaning was very friendly and gentle. Dr. Winburn came in at the end to review the x-rays and my mouth. He was also very gentle and I appreciated his calm demeanor. I was very happy with the visit and decided to schedule my appointment for 6 months out and appointments for my 2 kids. It was a good experience!

Dr. Winburn and his staff are tremendous! In the beginning, my visits were pain free because of the care they take while cleaning performing other dental work. Now, my visits are pain free because they have helped me learn how to keep my mouth and gums very clean. They charge you for a full workup even though I wouldn't allow it. You have to pay upfront, I had full approval for a limited exam, but was charged for a new patient. Rotating specialist wrote something to effect that it was a limited exam, office would not honor billing correction. I even called a higher level of administration, to no avail. I suppose I should have gone to the state agency & reported their operating, billing & customer service policies. BEWARE! They may have some decent dentists, but they are a national or multi state corporate operation.

I had a fairly involved procedure done near the end of 2024, removing a cyst from my jaw (hey, too much HIPAA!) and Dr. Oakley was extraordinarily thorough with the process. I have been back for follow-ups several times, getting X-rays and consultation with Dr. Oakley. He is always thorough, explains everything at my level, and is available for me to contact him should I have any issues. Absolutely top-shelf doc! His staff is friendly and helps to accommodate your schedule, they take most insurance, and they work with you during the entire process. While I hope that you don't have to have an oral surgery procedure, just know that if you do, this is one of the best places you can go in the Kansas City area.

Then on her follow up the next day we were informed that they hit an artery on the initial surgery and they are having trouble stopping the bleeding. All the while I am not allowed to be back in the room at all for either procedure to talk to doctors or my girlfriend. I would never recommend anyone use this doctor or staff for any procedures.

I have also had the procedure done a few times in the past and never needed anesthesia. I was told I have to have anesthesia or they would not do the procedure. I refused the treatment and they still charged me for all future procedures. They illegally made me choose between anesthesia and my right to choose or make me pay anyways. And get this: instead of awful elevator muzak, they've got Dave Matthews Band and Pearl Jam softly serenading you--like your teeth are getting a VIP concert while getting poked and prodded. Huge props to Sherry at the front desk, she runs the joint like a boss; Jeneae, the assistant who's basically Dr. Thompson's right-hand legend; and a dream team of hygienists who don't just scrape your teeth--they basically give them a five-star facial.
