I've had a dental cleaning my whole life and take good care of my teeth but they no longer want to do a cleaning it has to be either a deep cleaning or they invented a new name which is gum cleaning and of course insurance doesn't cover it. also anytime you have a crown or a composite on a tooth it comes of sometimes same day. not sure if they use cheap product or untrained people. By Friday, February 13th, I was in enough pain that I called Emergency Dental Kansas City. I was relieved when they told me they could see me that same evening at 6:15 PM. I was clearly told the upfront cost would be $165.00 for the exam and x-rays, and when I asked if they accepted Sun Life dental insurance, I was informed they did. After driving 20 minutes to their office, I was then told they do NOT take my insurance. Completely unacceptable. When I asked how much it would cost to remove the tooth, instead of giving me a straight answer, I was asked how much I thought it should cost. That alone was shocking. I was then told it could be "up towards $2,000" to remove a single tooth. Absolutely ridiculous. I am NOT paying that much. To make matters worse, they admitted the answering service gave me the wrong insurance information and said they were already aware of the issue. If they knew there was a problem, why wasn't it corrected before wasting my time and gas? This visit left me frustrated, angry, and still in pain. Unfortunately I had numerous dental issues that had to be addressed, including extractions, crowns and bridge work. All of my visits were beyond satisfactory, the latest one today being prepped for bridge work. I am scheduled to go back on March 7 for the permanent bridge. I was immediately impressed with Dr. Herre's knowledge of TMJ. He also teaches other dentist how to treat this condition so I would consider him an expert. Dr. Herre made me a bite splint and at first, I will be honest, the expense was really hard to swallow. However, when you consider that the hour long follow up visits (all included) for weeks and weeks afterwards, it really makes the cost more understandable. Anyway, I have had my bite splint for 5 weeks now and the proof is in the pudding. I went from someone who spent probably 10 days a month in bed with migraines to being nearly headache free. Before I also had other symptoms like not being able to chew foods, ear pain, facial pain and all of it has disappeared. My husband is thrilled that I'm not tired all the time anymore. I cannot say how pleased I am with the results so far.

I have had the same Hygienist, Fern, for as long as I can remember, Louise has greeting me since I started going there and I appreciate the family atmosphere of the practice. Their staff is obviously loyal for a reason. They are a great bunch of people. My entire family sees the Herre's. Over the years I have gotten sealants, fillings and broken teeth removed on top of my regular visits and I have always felt at ease. I am never intimidated and as Dr. Scott will tell you, I never cried! It's a nice treat to go to what is usually a dreaded experience and actually sort of enjoy myself and feel cared for.
