French onion soup.
Cashea S.

This is one of those places where you would go when you want comfort food, but better than diner quality. The portions are large and the food is good. It's not the best Italian food I've ever had, but it's better than most. The selection is large and the service is great. The French onion soup was cheesy and delicious. The feta burger was a good texture with lots of cheese! The pizza to me could have used more cheese, but it was still good heated up the next day. And the Italian combo platter is huge, enough to feed two. I can't speak too highly of the side salad. It was just okay and not as good as the soup for a side. But overall, it's a good comfort food type of restaurant that you will have good solid food at.

flounder special, best flounder i've had in years!

Recently, on two separate occasions I have gotten seafood dinners from here to go, fried flounder and fried oysters. Both of them were excellent, as was the service. Kudos!

Great food, great prices, great service! The server helped my daughter order and saved us a little money by doing so.

Food was very bland. Not at all like the one that was in Newport News on Warwick Blvd. No where near it

The place is small, somewhat intimate/ close seating, but we were seated in a booth so not directly facing any other diners. The place was hopping! I started off with some very nicely brewed unsweet tea. A large plate of garlic knots were placed on the table. They were a bit doughy inside, just needed another minute of cook time. Portions are huge. We ordered one of the specials, 3 canneloni topped with shrimp and scallops, 2 large pieces of chicken parm with spaghetti, and a sausage with penne pasta. All meals included a basic green salad. We each ate about half of our entrees. They were very tasty! Service was attentive. Bill came to about $80 for 3 meals, a tea and a soda. The parking lot is busy but plenty of spaces, entrance tight for a wheelchair user but no steps. Dining area is very crowded. Still, we were looking for a slightly more upscale Italian meal and this did fill the bill. Plus we have pretty much a complete meal to take home!

I could tell that they have a well-oiled operation in that regard! Other than that, I'm afraid everything else was just extremely mediocre and bland. The only good food item we had was the bread. My husband and I both got different plates of ravioli of which was undercooked (I realize al dente is a popular way to prepare, but we don't care for it at all). My dish came in a wine sauce and it just looked and tasted like a microwaveable Lean Cuisine meal. We wouldn't recommend and wouldn't return.

I thought the bill was too low once we paid and then realized after the charge increase that (2) pizzas we ordered were left off the bill, thus the discrepancy in the charge. Have not pushed the issue since we did in fact get the pizza's but I would have appreciated notification that a discrepancy was found so I could account for the difference. Instead, they left me to find the charge increase on my account. Thankfully I found it. This was our first visit which we left feeling good about. This charging issue alone will prevent me from ever going back. Simply poor business. The pizza's leave a lot to be desired as well so patrons beware and make sure you double check you bill.

He stayed in touch with me from the moment we booked, checked in often, and made sure everything ran smoothly the day of. His warmth, professionalism, and genuine care set the tone for the whole event. The entire family and staff were just as kind and attentive. We had over 75 guests, and every single person had something wonderful to say, the food was delicious, the service was flawless, and the atmosphere felt like being welcomed into someone's home. They truly went above and beyond for us. After the event, a few of us lingered and were joined by their Nona (Mima). She is pure light - warm, welcoming, and full of love. Sharing stories and hugs with her was something I'll always treasure. Mama Rosa's isn't just a restaurant. It's a place filled with heart, family, and genuine hospitality. Do not hesitate -- go.

I'm not big into Italian food so maybe that's why. But just this Friday, a friend in a social group celebrated her birthday. So I decided to join in and finally check out this spot. Let's see how the night went, shall we? Our party had a reserved table up front by the check-in booth and the bar. Inside the decor is a bit dated, but everything was clean and tidy. Overall, it's not that big of a restaurant, but it can fit a decent crowd. After enjoying some salad and garlic bread, we were all ready to order. My meal was Pollo Marsala. Overall, the dish was good. I preferred slightly bigger chicken breasts, but what I had was good enough. The protein was cooked nicely and there was enough spaghetti to mix with the chicken and mushrooms. I also had some grated parmesean cheese which added some flavor to the dish. What a wonderful night for all of us. Table service, hospitality and good food. You couldn't have asked for anything more. Yours truly will be back soon :)

The restaurant is fairly upscale, dinner had candle lights and the tables were a little close together. Definitely a good spot for a date night. Highly recommend.

The environs are bright with 2 dining areas and located in an easy access shopping center. They have a full bar and a few bar patrons, one of which was quite loud and exuberant. There is one bathroom, gender neutral of course. The unsweet tea was nicely brewed. The fried ravioli was as anticipated but served on some unnecessary shredded lettuce. We ordered a small cheese calzone and a small sausage roll. Both made to order and so large they extended over the plates! We enjoyed half and took half home. They looked to enjoy a steady take out business. For what we were looking for on a Sunday, this was a great choice!

So I called in an order for a meatball sub here to revisit the place after what looks like now about 8 years. Took my order to go. Service was very friendly and quick, and the interior is still really old-school cute. Food was solid, but nothing to rave home about. Meatballs were okay, but the bread was horribly soggy. Now the upside - I didn't finish it, so I took the bread off and reheated the meatballs the next day in the oven with extra sauce and cheese, then put it on some much better bread, and it was a great leftover. I just had to do the work to get it there...which not doing the work is sort of why you order out, am I right? I'd put this sub a step above a Subway meatball sub, but not on par with some of the other Italian places around.
