They don't speak English, and no prices are marked so it makes it difficult for a non-Vietnamese speaking person.

I am a landscape designer / contractor and have been purchasing from Bolsa for over 10 years. They…read moreare my first pick for sourcing my plants on all of my job sites because of their incredible selection and their outstanding customer service. I have worked with many wholesale nurseries and Bolsa knows how to take care of us like no other. They have competitive pricing, they stock unusual plants when we request them and Nicole (my favorite vendor contact ever) has consistently gone out of her way to broker in plant material that we couldn't get our hands on. I have been referring them to my landscape design and contracting friends as long as i have been in business. Here is an example of how great they are. I had a job site about 35 miles away from Bolsa and I was waiting around for the delivery. When I call to find out why they were late, I realized that I NEVER SENT OVER my materials list. Oops! I told my crew to go ahead and take an early lunch and Nicole pulled together a plant list for a full front and backyard and had them at the job in less than two hour. They were so fast and delivered such beautiful material I never even had to admit to my mistake. I read another review that compared them to Armstrong which is not a fair comparison. Bolsa is a wholesale nursery catering to the landscape industry not a retail nursery that caters to homeowners purchasing a few plants for their yard. They are a terrific resource for the landscape designer, contractor or home improvement professional that needs great selection, service and prices. Bolsa Rocks!

Recieved a young sapodilla tree from here in a 15g pot for $90 (paid via Zelle?) and later…read morediscovered the soil was FULL OF TRASH There were tons of pieces of styrofoam/polystyrene (not perlite, which there was also) and shredded plastic of various sizes and type. When planting into the ground, to our dismay, there was rubbish all throughout the pot... so we had to wash off all the contaminated soil and plant it bareroot. Absolutely disgusting they grow their plants with toxic plastic mixed in! They probably get free compost from the city dumps or God knows. The soil was also full of artificial fertilizer pellets which likely contain plastic polymers. I contacted them and they offered a replacement - but, whats the point of that if their other plants are grown the same way. It was too much for me to drive back and deal with that, and I'd set a time to get this job done. Was a little in touch by text with them, they didn't offer any form of refund or discount for the crappy soil condition they sold it in or the trouble to remove it, just the message: "Good luck with the bare root." Also, the tree's root system was actually quite small, a 3-5 gallon pot would have been more than adequate vs a half-filled 15 gallon pot. All in all, way overpriced for this poor quality and hassle. 2 stars instead of 1 simply because it's difficult to find some of these tropical fruit trees and the Vietnamese ladies here were friendly in person. ‍ Hopefully the tree survives the transplant shock, if it doesn't, we will fight for a full refund.

I also come here occasionally for Vietnamese vegetable plants like squash, bitter melon, and other garden varieties. The prices for the regular vegetable plants seem pretty reasonable to me. For some of the specialty fruit trees such as sugar apple , pomelo and other fruit varieties, I feel the prices are a little higher compared to some other nurseries I've visited. As for the service, it has always felt pretty neutral. Nobody has been rude, but I wouldn't describe the staff as particularly friendly or welcoming either. Most of the time I come in, buy what I need, and leave. If I have questions about a plant, I usually have to look around for someone to ask, and the answers are often pretty brief.

David was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. We came in looking for Star Jasmine and David showed us exactly what to purchase, and how to plant and care for them. I would strongly caution anyone considering Lakewood Nursery…read more About a year ago, I purchased a large podocarpus tree from them for several hundred dollars and paid an additional couple hundred dollars for installation in the planter in front of my house. Not long after planting, the tree didn't seem to be developing properly, so I stopped by looking for advice. The experience was disappointing. The employee helping me appeared visibly intoxicated in the middle of the day (someone I believe is connected to ownership, as I had met him during the purchase). He was unhelpful and dismissive, so I left without any real guidance. I continued trying to care for the tree, but within two months it died. When I returned to ask whether there was any warranty, replacement option, or even assistance toward purchasing a new tree, I was met by a rude employee who immediately became defensive, repeatedly emphasizing that they are a "family-owned business" while offering zero accountability or solutions. Instead, I was blamed for the tree dying, despite the fact that I had already come in previously asking for help. For a business that sells and installs expensive trees, I expected at least some level of customer service, support, or professionalism. Instead, I got poor advice, no accountability, and an overall hostile experience. I'll be taking my business elsewhere and would recommend others do the same. Update: After digging up the dead tree, it was obvious why it failed. The root ball was extremely tight and root-bound, likely from sitting too long in the nursery box. It only had two mature roots supporting it, and both had been cut during removal and installation. They also didn't use fresh soil when planting it, which gave it little chance to establish. I went to another family-owned nursery afterward, and the difference was clear--they stood behind their product and offered a one-year warranty.
