1st time and last time using these guys..Took veh in for alignment. Was told veh need repairs because alignment could not be done correctly without replacing control arm. Then was charged 2x for alignment. Was told they performed alignment 1st time and had to redo it after parts replacement so they charged 2x for alignment even though the 1st time the alignment could not be completed until repairs were made. After trying to argue the alignment was not complete the 1st time and should not be charged 2x I was told that was standard for the industry. Local, trustworthy and reliable shop. How often do you hear people complaining about mechanics and wishing they could find a good one? Van Meter is the place all our neighbors seem to use & they've lived up to their word of mouth reputation. After multiple repairs on our vehicles since we've moved nearby, I can vouch for their great feedback and communication about repairs and troubleshooting. Recently (for example) my alternator was going bad. Van Meter replaced it parts & labor plus diagnosing/fixing an unknown engine oil leak and a full oil change all under $700 for my RAV4. Now it might not be the cheapest, but it was fair & I know I can trust them to stand behind their work. Plus it's a local business, not a chain or sketchy fly by night biz. I heard so many great things about this place so I decided to check it out. I dropped off my Honda for an oil change and they were pretty fast with completing the job. I felt as if they were being honest with me the entire time, considering they even let me know some other recommendations I should get done soon to help maintain my car. Even after visiting there, they even texted me the next day asking how the car was and if there was anything I was dissatisfied with, which I found to be really nice. They do great work. I own a 2009 Challenger RT. They do except some third party warranty companies. I had my car there, I basically needed an engine rebuild. Valves, lifters, pushrods, AC condenser, cam, and other small things. They did a wonderful job. My car no longer taps, it purrs like a kitten. It now picks up and goes with no hesitation. I never thought my car could sound so good. I highly recommend them for all your car mechanical needs. read more

I drive an old F150 (1992-1996 vintage) with the "Twin I-Beam" Dana front axle that are difficult to keep in proper alignment. Other shops over the years (Ford, Firestone, and most recently, Pitman Auto Repair) have attempted alignments, but they never felt right. Over time, the tread on the front tires would scrub (wear abnormally) and the truck would tend to drift to the right. My brother recommended Van Meter, and I've been very pleased with the result. It tracks straight, and the tires are wearing as well as can be expected with this type of suspension. The technician who performed the alignment was John, who still works there last time I checked (2023). I can't comment on other services at Van Meter, but for alignments, John at Van Meter is the best in the area. read more

If I could give a zero I would. Gave the guy thousands of dollars only to realize he is a scammer. Quoted my son $1800 for a repair that another mechanic charged $150. He is the quintessential crooked mechanic. read more

I was on the highway going into Jersey when I had the overheating engine thermometer icon appear on my dashboard, I didn't even know what area I was in and pulled up to Mr. Van Meter's shop and he solved my emergency. I was stuck without a ride so he squeezed me in during a holiday weekend and got me back on the road in a very timely fashion. Kind and trustworthy people who are good at their jobs! OUTFREAKINGSTANDING business. They won me over when they told me I didn't actually need a new power steering pump, it was just a loose bolt. Since then, I don't use anyone else for repairs. They don't nickel and dime and squeeze money out of their customers. Repairs are quick and the place is huge. 100 percent honest mechanic, who's been around for years. What a great local business. Had a nail in my tire. Went to Mr. Tire in Woodbury. They said the tire could not be plugged or patched, that I needed new tire, and that they would not put my spare tire on the existing rim because, without even looking at my spare, said "it was used and no good." My spare has never been used. I went to Van Meter. They said it was an easy plug to do. Did it on the spot and didn't even charge me. read more

For years I have heard from my Dad and extended family what an excellent auto repair shop Van Meter is. My Dad who has three cars including a mint condition Corvette had done his own repair work for years. So when he had to find a repair shop that would take care of his babies just like he would it was a difficult task. My Dad also believes in word of mouth. So when a few neighbors told him about Van Meter he thought it might be the right place. My Dad is 80 now and has been using Van Meter for 8 years. Every time he uses Van Meter he comes away with another positive experience. When I moved back to NJ from Massachusetts I knew where my car would be going for tune ups and repairs. I was not let down when I went in for an oil change. It was easy to schedule (and reschedule), everyone was friendly, the oil change was fast and best part is it didn't cost me a fortune! A great one stop shop for your car in the Wenonah/Mantua area. They are honest and have consistently looked to save me money with repairs. They are great about offering alternatives to replacing "everything" and are upfront about the pros and cons of selective maintenance or alternate parts. They may be a little more (5%) than some other shops, but the trust factor is worth it. If you're a regular customer, they are great about last minute repairs and are accurate with their estimates of cost and time.
