We learned about this place from an email from Yelp that featured new places to try…read more Since we were planning to have dinner at a restaurant in the area, we figured that I would stop in after dinner and get some dessert to go. It's not easy to find. Their address is on Southbank Street, but it can be easy to miss it as it is behind Robek's. We were here on a Sunday around 5 p.m. The first thing I noticed was that they didn't have very many items left. The young man who was behind the counter was friendly and patient. I decided to order two lemon cupcakes and two birthday cupcakes. There were only two birthday cupcakes left, so I guess I timed it right. Four cupcakes ended up costing $18, which seems to be on the expensive side. As for the cupcakes, the lemon ones were for my husband. He thought the lemon flavoring could have been more prominent. We also noticed that the cupcakes were on the oily side. On the plus side, the cake part was very light in texture. This place is basically a take out set up, as it is small. We're not sure if we would return. If we did return, it would be for a meal in the area.

I was casually looking at the flavors when someone greeted me and was ready to help. Turns out he was the owner and was very nice. He explained how all the cupcakes are baked fresh daily, and he makes the ice cream himself as well. There were definitely a lot of options, so it was a little tough to choose. They have cupcakes, ice cream, cookies, macarons, etc. It looks like they also have seasonally decorated cupcakes as well. But I did come here with the intention of getting a cupcake, but leaving with four. I chose the following: -mocha chocolate oreo - This one was a little too complex for me, I couldn't really taste the mocha flavor. -pumpkin pie-ception - spot on, this was very delicious. I loved the little pumpkin pie slice on top. -red velvet - This was pretty good, the the cream cheese frosting wasn't too sweet which is how I like it. -carrot cake - I didn't taste it yet, but I figured it's a combination of the pumpkin pie-ception and red velvet frosting. The cupcakes are $4.25 each, with a $1 up charge for a deluxe cupcake... Not sure which one that was. The cupcake prices are high but kind of average price. The cupcakes were good, moist. I do wish that there was a little filling on the inside and maybe a little less frosting on top. Would I return? Maybe if I am in the area.

I started with a couple of drinks, and let's just say the bartender had a generous pour--if you know, you know! The cheesesteak rolls were absolutely spot on. They were so good I almost ordered another round. For my entrée, I had the salmon with grits. Not everyone knows how to make good grits, but they did a good job. The salmon was cooked well, and the entire dish was delicious. Overall, it was a great first experience. I'm already looking forward to coming back and trying more items on the menu.

I rate restaurants within their category and concept. I am not comparing a neighborhood breakfast…read morespot to a Michelin star dining experience. If a place consistently delivers tasty food, solid execution, and keeps you wanting to come back, that earns a top rating from me. Ted's Bulletin absolutely does that. We have been to the One Loudoun location several times for breakfast, and it is consistently a great experience. That kind of consistency matters, especially for breakfast service where some places can be hit or miss. One of our favorites has been the huevos rancheros. They serve it on tostadas, which gives the dish a great crispy base and a really satisfying texture. It is flavorful, hearty, and always hits the spot. We have also had their homemade tater tots, and they are excellent. Nicely fried, crisp on the outside, soft inside, and clearly done with care rather than feeling like an afterthought side dish. Their French toast is another strong option and always enjoyable. If you are in the mood for something sweeter, it is a very solid choice. We have also tried the breakfast cinnamon roll. It is definitely generous in size. It is decent and worth trying, but it can be a lot, which is probably why we only order it occasionally. For the kids, the hot chocolate is always a favorite and something they genuinely look forward to each visit. Overall, Ted's Bulletin continues to deliver tasty breakfast food, dependable quality, and a family friendly experience that keeps us coming back. Easy 5 stars from me.
