The idea of the store is that it's a store operating within a store. They also have some stand-alone locations. Similar to Nordstrom Rack if you will. They offer merchandise that you would normally find at Macy's from housewares to clothing but with pricing more like TJ Maxx or Marshall's. This location had a lot of items that I wanted and I was able to spend a fraction of the price. I actually bought a couple of things that were also still available in "regular" Macy's but for much less. The inventory changes often so there will most likely always be something different each visit. The sales staff were nice and helpful. If you're a bargain shopper like me, don't pass up Backstage.

After combing threw a few stores for Black Friday sales, I came up empty handed until I reached J Crew. Much of the store was sales rich, i.e. 50-60% off. I was giddy at seeing all the sales signs. They were stocked with many variety of sweaters - plain and Christmas in a variety of textures and materials. They also had a plethora of new items since my last visit. In the last few weeks, I have been on the hunt for dark chocolate (fall trending color) suede shoes and a handbag. Today was my lucky day for dark chocolate suede shoes. Yes, I purchased them at 60% off the ticketed price...that's the good news. The bad news is that they have to be ordered online via the store. I received expedited shipping and therefore can receive my shoes as early as tomorrow but no later than Monday. Yay!!! While this was not best Black Friday sales run, even one item at a good price brings me great joy!

I can't count how many times we were asked if we had question or if we could use any help. We felt like we had a couple of personal shoppers... the employees were just soooo attentive. We were there piecing things together for a bit over an hour and when we were ready to go... they jumped right on another register to ring us out. The employees were cleaning and asking if we needed help and I noticed when the register line got long they jumped in and opened another one!! I'd been curious about your boutique--since you can't see into the store from the street--and I'm not one to judge a book by its cover (a little something I suggest we all try). I was completely ignored by the cashier, but I brushed it off. The second time, I brought a friend. While your clothing isn't quite my style, I'd noticed a few charming pieces and thought she might enjoy them. Someone did come outside to greet us and mention more items inside, which was a refreshing change. My friend even returned on her own later and had a good experience. Today, I stopped in again--not for myself, but because I have a sparkly, pink-loving, Kendra Scott-type friend with a birthday coming up, and your store felt like the perfect match. Once again, I came in after work and was met with a flat, unbothered "hi..." from the girl in the green dress, who immediately turned back to her conversation with the woman behind the counter. I browsed quietly, giving the benefit of the doubt--again--while they carried on, clearly uninterested. Another woman walked in and was promptly helped--likely because she matched the aesthetic. I, in contrast, was overlooked entirely. When I walked out, the same girl, parked in front of the counter like an immobile house pet with selective vision, actively avoided eye contact and said nothing. No goodbye, no thanks, not even a glance. Message received. Maybe it was the tattoos. Maybe the black clothing. Maybe just the assumption that I wouldn't be spending anything. Wild, considering I had every reason to judge her in that pretend "old money" dress--but didn't, and that's beside the point. You've lost a customer, and the referrals I was more than happy to send your way (most of which do actually fit your aesthetic). Still, I genuinely hope the shop survives--though with a hidden location, zero visibility from the street, and an overwhelming number of sale tags (which tracks--$50 for matches?), I wouldn't bet on it. She also showed us where to find great deals in the store and alerted us to sales we may not have spotted on our own. Fossil is not a brand I had considered for quite some time as being a key contender for my hard-earned spending money, but after Laurel showed me the great stuff they had to offer, it will be in my Barton Creek Mall rotation for many trips to come.
