I rarely write reviews, but the service I received at Van Gundy today was absolutely worthy of taking the time. I recently purchased a beautiful ring online from another seller. I loved the ring, but the setting appeared slightly warped and the center stone was not sitting completely straight. I scheduled an appointment at Van Gundy to have it assessed and find out whether it could be repaired or if I would need to have an entirely new setting made for my stones. They took the ring to the back so their jeweler could inspect it and prepare a repair estimate. Within just a few minutes, the jeweler had straightened the center stone, repositioned and tightened the prongs, and fully assessed the ring's structural integrity. Their verdict? No new setting was needed. The asymmetry was minor and fixable, the stones were secure, and they had even cleaned the ring. Then they told me there was no charge. What?! They repaired my ring for free and, in the process, talked themselves out of a potential sale. That level of honesty and integrity is rare. It is clear that Van Gundy is focused on building long-term relationships with clients rather than making a quick sale. I will absolutely be returning for future jewelry needs. 10/10 recommend. read more

The best jewelry store! Megan is amazing she can make anything happen! I had an idea of a sapphire ring I wanted and she made the vision come true! She spent the time to show me all the different sapphires to make sure I got to pick the color I wanted. I also got an emerald ring for my mom and she customized that ring as well to make it exactly like we wanted. Megan truly knows what she's doing and will be honest about pricing and quality. No matter what your price range she does her best to make what you want happen. If you are looking for excellent quality jewelry with people you can trust then Van Gundy Diamonds is the place to go! read more

I took my antique diamond ring in to be repaired. It needed a new crown. I was worried that it would look like any old solitaire diamond when they replaced it. I picked it up today and I'm just completely floored by how beautiful it looks! He set the crown in so delicately. All the filigree is in tack and the ring still retains the antique look. I've had the ring for 53 years and it looks like it did when my husband first gave it to me. It was at least 50 years old when I got it. So this 100 year old ring looks fabulous again! You can trust your most precious things to them. read more

I wanted a very custom piece made for my girlfriends birthday. They hit it absolutely out of the park!! I could not be happier and I cannot wait to see the smile on my girlfriends face!! Wanted something heavy and over the top, they helped me design it, let me approve the mold when it was ready, and even made it adjustable because I wasn't sure on final length. So happy, thank you so much Michele and Megan!!! read more

Van Gundy Diamonds - Jewelry Near Me - Camarillo, California

I am very disappointed with the quality and service from Van Gundy. I first brought an engagement ring through Ritani directly with the in-store preview here. The service was friendly and the quality of the ring made by Ritani was great. I wrongly assumed the quality of the rest of the shop would be as good. We went in to buy my ring and I was interested in changing the dimensions of a different ring. Aron made the annotations wrong in the note which caused me to get the correct ring AFTER the wedding at a higher price. A week or two after getting the ring it had big den't and heavy scratches despite it being new. I took it back and they first admitted the mistake and remade it. A few weeks later It happened again and I made them aware. They said to bring it in and they will make it right. Needless to say our family got covid and several months went by and now they are refusing to do anything about it besides sell me a refinishing that once again they won't put any guarantee behind. read more

First a little backstory. Have you ever heard of a Facebook page, called the moms of Camarillo? Amongst town they're also known as the mob of Camarillo, the meanie moms of Camarillo, the mob of Camarillo, etc.... It's a page run by a couple of bored housewives that are completely drunk with power! The purpose of the page is for moms to ask for recommendations on things in Camarillo and to voice complaints or concerns about certain companies. So somebody was asking for a referral to a jewelry store and people were throwing out suggestions and people were throwing out names of places not to go. I mentioned do not go to Van Gundy's. A member of the group asked why. And I explained that the day before I was to go out of town, my bracelet broke. It wasn't a fancy bracelet, it wasn't real gold or real jewels. It was a $20 bracelet I bought at Target about two years prior. It had a little paw print charm on it that my veterinarian sent me when my cat passed away. The little tiny metal link holding the charm had broken in half. So I went to VanGundy to see if they had a little metal ring that I could just loop through the charm and take some pliers and smash it back onto my bracelet. It was coming up on 5 o'clock at night, and I was leaving town early the next morning. The sales lady went on and on and on and on about the only way they could fix it was to use a real gold link and solder it, etc. etc. i'm now running out of time because she spent 20 minutes with my bracelet in her hand in the back talking to somebody about this. I finally told her I would agree to buy the metal ring, but I would literally just smash it with pliers myself, because it was not an expensive bracelet. She said they would solder it for free. The cost was going to be $130. I told her the bracelet only cost $20 and I really just wanted to attach the charm and I'm sure they had some kind of little metal link in that whole big store. Long story short I agreed to this nonsense. Now keep in mind I've probably been in the store for over 30 minutes and she told me they would make soldering it a priority and that it should probably only take 30 more minutes. Well now their store is closing, but I agreed to do the gold link and the soldering. She takes my bracelet back and I go sit outside to wait for the half hour. I dig through my purse to look for my phone to call my husband to tell him what's going on. As I dig for my phone I see a pack of gum so I decide to have a stick of gum. Put my gum in my mouth, put the wrapper in my pocket, started to dial my husband and the sales lady walks out and voilà. My bracelet is done. Yep. The whole thing took about two minutes. Not 30 minutes which was part of the sales pitch to justify the expensive charge of $130. So now it gets creepy. The person on the face group page, which mind you is a public forum with about 7000 members, comes back onto the public forum and publicly states that she looked up my name, to find my sales history, address, and phone number. She said she did that because she wanted to call me and discuss this with me. No, I didn't make a complaint to the store, I simply voiced my opinion on a page where people ask for other peoples opinions. So for her to look at my private information, well, To me that was unbelievably unprofessional. I should have a right to voice my opinion without someone from Van Gundy going onto a public forum, making sure that I and everybody else knows she has my name, address, phone number, credit card number, and purchase history. It came across to me as threatening, invasive, and a complete abuse of a general employee having access to any customers personal information. When I called the company to discuss this with a manager, they could not have cared less, all they cared about was that I was recommending people not go to their company. So then I began to wonder if the person on Facebook is the manager of the store, or worse, the owner. This place is creepy, they will rip you off when you are in a hurry and your choices are limited AND as if that isn't enough, the whole thing about trying to contact me because I voiced an opinion online and then making sure I knew, and stating in a public forum that they have full access to all of my personal information. It's creepy and disgustingly unprofessional. read more

Thinking I bought a good watch with their name on it was a big mistake on my part. Live and learn. The watch has no value after I walked out the store. I must have been out of my mind. You got me Van Gundy Jewelers. I can't anything about the rest of items in the store. I believe the rest of the store as high value. That's the reason I bought the watch. Their service is excellent. What a great jeweler and enjoyable experience! I came in on the recommendation of a friend, expecting a quick browse through and finding the usual chain-store junk. Having been in the industry years ago, I am not easily impressed. I could not have been more wrong. The service (Michelle) was terrific, and the selection unique. It was not an issue of hoping to just "find something," but what to buy from an amazing collection. Michelle stayed with me throughout multiple visits. I selected a beautiful sapphire and diamond necklace and then engaged in customizing the piece. Michelle helped in the selection of a ¾ carat solitaire to add the necklace, not only ensuring the custom job was done correctly, but done promptly. This is a first-stop for shoppers. Then cruise the usual chain & mall stores -- you will be back. I would recommend this jeweler to anyone looking for something unique. They are knowledgeable, patient, and professional. Thank-you for a great experience. read more

Amazing service! The owner Tom, is not about Nickel and diming anyone. I first came in with a recommendation by my family friend who spoke wonders about this place, (they own very fine jewelry) so I knew if they trusted Van gundy? It would be safe to try them! So happy we did. They restored my tiny diamond that fell out on my wedding band back to even better condition before we bought it! Then when I later had a problem on my engagement ring, Tom took care of everything without added fees! I am a pretty busy mom and wear gym clothes a lot...I will say, you can come in here looking super casual and they treat each customer with respect! That means a lot because other places act like they are above you, and the fact they honestly just want to keep their customers happy? I will forever go to Van Gundy! Even my husband, who is a quality engineer for the government, is so impressed by their workmanship, kindness & care. Thank you for being local in Camarillo! read more

We came here in search of my engagement ring. On our first visit, we talked with Megan, the owner. She is SO knowledgeable about every brand they carry. We spent at least an hour trying on rings, but did not choose "the one" on that visit. She had phoned one of the designers for me about customizing a particular ring and got back to me within 2 weeks. On our next visit, we worked with Mieko, who is very sweet and knowledgeable as well. We went around the store trying rings on and trying to decide. Sadly, with my indecisive nature, I couldn't choose. On my next visit, I met with Aaron, based off of a recommendation. He is absolutely hysterical, so proper, and genuinely wants to help you pick out the perfect piece of jewelry. I came in a few more times and tried on rings with Aaron. He had some rings brought over from their other store. Finally, after about 4-5 visits, I was able to narrow it down to 2 rings! On my last visit, Aaron and I even took a ring for a "field trip" on over to get a coffee together. After that, I left the rest up to my fiancé! We worked with Aaron again when we bought my wedding band. Van Gundy has excellent customer service. They are all very knowledgeable and kind. They genuinely all want to help you find whatever it is you're looking for. I've been into that store so many times, and every time, they greet me by my first name and remember who I am. It's always great to work with small businesses because you get the right service. I would recommend Van Gundy to anyone. My mom had never been in the store before, but wanted her ring cleaned before my wedding. I told her to pop in and just see. Sure enough, they cleaned her ring for free right on the spot. Aaron, is my fave. I felt like I met a new friend after working with him for hours on end. He's very sweet, witty, and always dresses in one hell of a suit! I can't wait for my future cleanings so we can chat! read more

This past month I spent most of my weekends with Amy at Van Gundy's looking at various engagement rings. Amy worked meticulously to find the perfect stone that matched my girlfriend's pinterest board. While in the end I chose to go another route, I was thoroughly impressed with the professionalism and class by Amy and the rest of the staff at Van Gundy's. Upon informing Amy that I had found another diamond at another Jeweler that I couldn't say no to, Amy congratulated me and wished me the best of luck. I later received an email thanking me for my time. The sincerity and goodwill of Amy and the Van Gundy family will not be forgotten and I would recommend this Jeweler to anyone looking for something special. They truly take care of you. read more

My fiance purchased my engagement ring here, so we came back this weekend to pick out our wedding bands. As soon as we walked in, Aaron welcomed us and recognized my fiance from his visit last year. He led us to the band displays and gave us time to look around while he cleaned my ring in the back. When he returned with my ring (now sparkling in perfection), he took his time in picking rings out of the display one by one and allowing us to try them on. I take my hat off to Aaron because we came in pretty indecisive and without a real idea of what we were looking for, but throughout our visit Aaron was full of knowledge, patience, and professionalism. He let me play around with two bands that I was torn between for a good while as he showed my fiance different options for his band. Aaron also laid out the pros and cons of different metals. He was thorough in each of his descriptions and really listened to our thoughts on each band he presented to us. It was a really comfortable experience, and at no point did we feel pressured into buying something; Aaron really seemed to have a genuine interest in helping us pick something we were 100% in love with. My fiance and I left feeling extremely satisfied and excited to wear our rings. read more

Van Gundy's has been my favorite jewelers for many years, and I would only buy "Good Jewelry" from them. Last Friday I popped into the store and was so happy to see both Tom and Priscilla in the store - it always feels like I've come home when I'm in their store. Of course since I was in the store I just had to buy a "hearts on fire" ring! Tom had the ring sent over to their Camarillo store for sizing and I had it on my finger that very afternoon - such great customer service! I bought a total of 3 rings ($2,495) during one of their discount sales. I have a total of 5 Van Gundy rings and they are beautiful! I believe they are true quality and if you go when they have their sales you'll get really great prices. These are conflict free diamonds as well, which I feel everyone should buy. I bought a diamond ring 2 years ago (at one of their sales) and I noticed one of the diamonds were loose, I took it back to the store, expecting to pay for repairs (Which I would have no problem with), and they fixed it at NO charge! Wow! The sales clerks are always friendly and helpful. They do not push...they even get to know you :). I love this place...I can't wait for the next sale :) read more

I recently brought in a gold diamond engagement ring to Van Gundy's in Camarillo to re-sale and they made me an offer on the ring . I told them I would think about it over night and they said "of course, No problem. Etc." and that their offer would stand and that I could come back for that offer anytime.... However, when I returned a few days later they made me wait for about an hour only to then say they were no longer interested at all? Being very confused I asked why they had changed their mind....and the man (Manager?) didn't even give me a reason???? It must have been something personal which I will never know...What a terrible business...and what a waste of my time too....Please be careful at this store for both buyers and sellers!!!!!! I wasn't going to even post this until I saw the other complaint...its not just me obviously!!!!! read more

Don't go here overpriced, I've bought a diamond here said to be worth a large sum of money, well things didn't work out wanted to get credit back or SOMETHING, they said they arent in the market to buy diamonds right now which is fine, but when I asked how much is my diamond worth better to help me look for a good deal on it, they kept avoiding the question saying blah this blah that, that they said oh it is worth what u bought it....went to George Thompson come to find out I paid 3 times it worth. Never going here again and I advise everyone to go get other options for diamonds I kno retail is high but come on that's almost a 50 percent more then 50 percent mark up bunch of scammer and they won't even man up to tell u the truth...go online do ur research and don't be like me but no the integrity here is not good find someone that will give u a fair deal read more

I was looking everywhere for a particular Hearts on Fire engagement ring. I'm very particular about customer service--especially when it comes to high price items. After visiting a few jewelers that disappointed me, I walked into Van Gundys and met Beth. Beth is amazing! She is extremely knowledgable and her passion for gemology is apparent within the first five minutes of talking to her. She has an upbeat personality and was--is-- extremely responsive to my needs. The style I wanted had to be ordered but she had it in the store within two days. Beth took time to get to know me, my fiancé, and our daughters. She was receptive to what caught my eye and would adjust accordingly. She's a great saleswoman but has never ever pushed anything on me. This means a lot--especially to a couple with extensive customer service, marketing, and sales backgrounds. My fiancé purchased my engagement ring here and we have made Van Gundys our jeweler. Every person in here is helpful and accommodating. They make you feel comfortable while being professional. In the market for some diamonds? I highly recommend you stop in and see what they have. If they don't have it, they'll work with you to get what you want. Beth has been extremely patient with me and has helped me on my quest for the perfect wedding ring set. She's become my Go-To subject matter expert!! A plus about this jeweler--they carry HOF diamonds-- a brand I fell in love with since visiting Van Gundys! My ring is beautiful and I get compliments all the time on it. Thanks, Beth--you rock! read more

See my review on the other listing page for Van Gundy! They are truly awesome.

I did some looking around on Yelp, and came across this place. Out of all jewelry places in the area this one had the best reviews. So that being said I took a chance on it. When I entered I was instantly greeted by Beth (sales rep) and Megan (owner)! Beth asked what brought me in and I told her I was looking for an engagement ring. She began to ask questions of what I was looking for, what my gal was like, etc.. I showed her my ideas of what I wanted and she began to show me rings. Megan over heard some of our conversation and suggested a couple other rings. Beth asked me what my budget was and being the great sales rep she was I did not walk out spending a penny over!!! I was able to get the ring I want at a good price. They set the diamond I wanted in it for me as well as added a little extra surprise in the ring for me. My ring was ready to go in a timely matter and I could not had been more stoked on how it turned out. I proposed and my lady loves her ring as well as every gal that has seen it. I recommend this place to anyone in the market for jewelry! Beth was a great and friendly gal to work with, as well as Megan. She takes pride in her family business and taking care of the customer. Thank you ladies so much!!!!! read more

Just purchased my Fiancees engagement ring from Megan. She was very helpful and able to show me exactly what I was looking for. I started going into Van Gundy Jewelers in Ventura, first at the mall, and more recently at their downtown location. I love working with Megan, who is now most often found in the Camarillo store. Read her statement on the bottom of the Yelp page--it says it all. She cares so much about pleasing her customers, and she has excellent skills in understanding what the customer wants. Megan is the granddaughter of the man who started Van Gundy Jewelers, and her mother and father, Priscilla and Tom Van Gundy, are most often found in the downtown Ventura store now. LOVE this place! New to the area needed a watch battery replaced and an estimate for a repair and a mid range automatic milsub and popped into this neighborhood jewelry shop just blocks from my house. While I waited for the battery replacement and processed my other watch for estimate (the case back was such that they send these types out to a repair specialist) I chatted with Amy. I learned that this is a family run Ventura county institution around since the 70s and that she is, in addition to nearly all the other employees, a family member! I'm a HUGE fan of keeping it local so I had immediately found my new local jeweler. In less than 10 minutes I'd inducted my milsub, learned the family history and had the battery replaced on my Bulova and hadn't payed a dime! That's right, they comped me the battery! As I told Amy, THAT's how you stay in business for 40 years! I'll be back many times over! They do fantastic custom work as well and I'm already contemplating a custom pendant for my wife of, soon to be, 10 years! Thanks Van Gundy family! Jake read more

If you need jewelry repair or sizing done, especially if it's an important piece or family heirloom, DO NOT GO TO VAN GUNDY. They ruined a very important piece by grinding away at the design, which we did NOT ask them to do, when all we wanted was a simple repair done. They refused to fix what they did, they never once apologized or acknowledged their actions, and they wouldn't refund us the money we spent. The managers are both very rude and treated us like we were trash. Their "jeweler" (if you can call him that) has no clue what he is doing. We were devastated by their actions and rudeness.
