I took my antique diamond ring in to be repaired. It needed a new crown. I was worried that it would look like any old solitaire diamond when they replaced it. I picked it up today and I'm just completely floored by how beautiful it looks! He set the crown in so delicately. All the filigree is in tack and the ring still retains the antique look. I've had the ring for 53 years and it looks like it did when my husband first gave it to me. It was at least 50 years old when I got it. So this 100 year old ring looks fabulous again! First a little backstory. Have you ever heard of a Facebook page, called the moms of Camarillo? Amongst town they're also known as the mob of Camarillo, the meanie moms of Camarillo, the mob of Camarillo, etc.... It's a page run by a couple of bored housewives that are completely drunk with power! The purpose of the page is for moms to ask for recommendations on things in Camarillo and to voice complaints or concerns about certain companies. So somebody was asking for a referral to a jewelry store and people were throwing out suggestions and people were throwing out names of places not to go. I mentioned do not go to Van Gundy's. A member of the group asked why. And I explained that the day before I was to go out of town, my bracelet broke. It wasn't a fancy bracelet, it wasn't real gold or real jewels. It was a $20 bracelet I bought at Target about two years prior. It had a little paw print charm on it that my veterinarian sent me when my cat passed away. The little tiny metal link holding the charm had broken in half. So I went to VanGundy to see if they had a little metal ring that I could just loop through the charm and take some pliers and smash it back onto my bracelet. It was coming up on 5 o'clock at night, and I was leaving town early the next morning. The sales lady went on and on and on and on about the only way they could fix it was to use a real gold link and solder it, etc. etc. i'm now running out of time because she spent 20 minutes with my bracelet in her hand in the back talking to somebody about this. I finally told her I would agree to buy the metal ring, but I would literally just smash it with pliers myself, because it was not an expensive bracelet. She said they would solder it for free. The cost was going to be $130. I told her the bracelet only cost $20 and I really just wanted to attach the charm and I'm sure they had some kind of little metal link in that whole big store. Long story short I agreed to this nonsense. Now keep in mind I've probably been in the store for over 30 minutes and she told me they would make soldering it a priority and that it should probably only take 30 more minutes. Well now their store is closing, but I agreed to do the gold link and the soldering. She takes my bracelet back and I go sit outside to wait for the half hour. I dig through my purse to look for my phone to call my husband to tell him what's going on. As I dig for my phone I see a pack of gum so I decide to have a stick of gum. Put my gum in my mouth, put the wrapper in my pocket, started to dial my husband and the sales lady walks out and voilà. My bracelet is done. Yep. The whole thing took about two minutes. Not 30 minutes which was part of the sales pitch to justify the expensive charge of $130. So now it gets creepy. The person on the face group page, which mind you is a public forum with about 7000 members, comes back onto the public forum and publicly states that she looked up my name, to find my sales history, address, and phone number. She said she did that because she wanted to call me and discuss this with me. No, I didn't make a complaint to the store, I simply voiced my opinion on a page where people ask for other peoples opinions. So for her to look at my private information, well, To me that was unbelievably unprofessional. I should have a right to voice my opinion without someone from Van Gundy going onto a public forum, making sure that I and everybody else knows she has my name, address, phone number, credit card number, and purchase history. It came across to me as threatening, invasive, and a complete abuse of a general employee having access to any customers personal information. When I called the company to discuss this with a manager, they could not have cared less, all they cared about was that I was recommending people not go to their company. So then I began to wonder if the person on Facebook is the manager of the store, or worse, the owner. This place is creepy, they will rip you off when you are in a hurry and your choices are limited AND as if that isn't enough, the whole thing about trying to contact me because I voiced an opinion online and then making sure I knew, and stating in a public forum that they have full access to all of my personal information. It's creepy and disgustingly unprofessional. read more

I am very disappointed with the quality and service from Van Gundy. I first brought an engagement ring through Ritani directly with the in-store preview here. The service was friendly and the quality of the ring made by Ritani was great. I wrongly assumed the quality of the rest of the shop would be as good. We went in to buy my ring and I was interested in changing the dimensions of a different ring. Aron made the annotations wrong in the note which caused me to get the correct ring AFTER the wedding at a higher price. A week or two after getting the ring it had big den't and heavy scratches despite it being new. I took it back and they first admitted the mistake and remade it. A few weeks later It happened again and I made them aware. They said to bring it in and they will make it right. Needless to say our family got covid and several months went by and now they are refusing to do anything about it besides sell me a refinishing that once again they won't put any guarantee behind. read more

We came here in search of my engagement ring. On our first visit, we talked with Megan, the owner. She is SO knowledgeable about every brand they carry. We spent at least an hour trying on rings, but did not choose "the one" on that visit. She had phoned one of the designers for me about customizing a particular ring and got back to me within 2 weeks. On our next visit, we worked with Mieko, who is very sweet and knowledgeable as well. We went around the store trying rings on and trying to decide. Sadly, with my indecisive nature, I couldn't choose. On my next visit, I met with Aaron, based off of a recommendation. He is absolutely hysterical, so proper, and genuinely wants to help you pick out the perfect piece of jewelry. I came in a few more times and tried on rings with Aaron. He had some rings brought over from their other store. Finally, after about 4-5 visits, I was able to narrow it down to 2 rings! On my last visit, Aaron and I even took a ring for a "field trip" on over to get a coffee together. After that, I left the rest up to my fiancé! We worked with Aaron again when we bought my wedding band. Van Gundy has excellent customer service. They are all very knowledgeable and kind. They genuinely all want to help you find whatever it is you're looking for. I've been into that store so many times, and every time, they greet me by my first name and remember who I am. My fiance purchased my engagement ring here, so we came back this weekend to pick out our wedding bands. As soon as we walked in, Aaron welcomed us and recognized my fiance from his visit last year. He led us to the band displays and gave us time to look around while he cleaned my ring in the back. When he returned with my ring (now sparkling in perfection), he took his time in picking rings out of the display one by one and allowing us to try them on. I take my hat off to Aaron because we came in pretty indecisive and without a real idea of what we were looking for, but throughout our visit Aaron was full of knowledge, patience, and professionalism. I told them I would think about it over night and they said "of course, No problem. Etc." and that their offer would stand and that I could come back for that offer anytime.... She is extremely knowledgable and her passion for gemology is apparent within the first five minutes of talking to her. She has an upbeat personality and was--is-- extremely responsive to my needs. She was receptive to what caught my eye and would adjust accordingly. She's a great saleswoman but has never ever pushed anything on me. LOVE this place! New to the area needed a watch battery replaced and an estimate for a repair and a mid range automatic milsub and popped into this neighborhood jewelry shop just blocks from my house. While I waited for the battery replacement and processed my other watch for estimate (the case back was such that they send these types out to a repair specialist) I chatted with Amy. I learned that this is a family run Ventura county institution around since the 70s and that she is, in addition to nearly all the other employees, a family member! I'm a HUGE fan of keeping it local so I had immediately found my new local jeweler. In less than 10 minutes I'd inducted my milsub, learned the family history and had the battery replaced on my Bulova and hadn't payed a dime! That's right, they comped me the battery! As I told Amy, THAT's how you stay in business for 40 years! I'll be back many times over! Aaron Van Der Maas is my main AMAZING sales person who helps me. He took my 1994 wedding ring recently and redid the setting and now it looks amazing. I am contemporary and people comment on my ring all the time. Aaron is very interested in what the client wants and doesn't just sell you something to "make a sale". If you need jewelry repair or sizing done, especially if it's an important piece or family heirloom, DO NOT GO TO VAN GUNDY. They ruined a very important piece by grinding away at the design, which we did NOT ask them to do, when all we wanted was a simple repair done. They refused to fix what they did, they never once apologized or acknowledged their actions, and they wouldn't refund us the money we spent. The managers are both very rude and treated us like we were trash. Their "jeweler" (if you can call him that) has no clue what he is doing. We were devastated by their actions and rudeness.
