Beware! Van Dyke Appliances refuses to admit that they could ever make a mistake. My brand new Bosch dishwasher broke down. It was not purchased at Van Dyke Appliances, however, after it broke down, I called Bosch to inquire about repair since it was still under warranty. Bosch provided me with a list of companies that could repair my dishwasher, and I called Van Dyke Appliances since it was one of the closest options. I was greeted by a pleasant person and they apologized that it would take some time for them to get out to repair my dishwasher. It was Dec. 8th when I called and they had an appointment available for Dec. 30th. I told them no problem, and went ahead with scheduling the appointment. Dec. 30th comes and no one shows up to fix my dishwasher. I call Van Dyke Appliances, and I am greeted by Becky who goes on to tell me: 1) There is no appointment scheduled for me. 2) They do not repair in my area. 3) They do not repair dishwashers that were not purchased at Van Dyke Appliance. 4) I must have called a different store. After this very confusing interaction, I give her the benefit of the doubt, and I end the call. Still confused, I review the call logs on my cell phone. On Dec. 8th, I only have two phone calls made: 1) Directly to Bosch where I got the list of repair companies in my area. 2) Directly to Van Dyke Appliance where I scheduled my appointment for Dec. 30th. I then call Becky back, because I now have the proof I need to be certain that my appointment was scheduled through Van Dyke Appliances on Dec. 8th. I am greeted with a very hostile Becky this time, who assures me that Van Dyke Appliances does not make mistakes because they have been in business for over 40 years, and accuses me of lying about scheduling the appointment. I inform her that I only called one repair shop and I have the call logs to prove it. She continues to accuse me of being mistaken, and that Van Dyke Appliances does not make mistakes. I ask her if she can at least check who was working on Dec. 8th, so that the person that I scheduled the appointment with doesn't make a similar mistake in the future. She flat out refuses, and continues to be defensive. Obviously, I'm disappointed about now having to wait longer to get my dishwasher serviced, but I did not need the insults to my intelligence from Becky on top of that. Please avoid Van Dyke Appliances, unless you enjoy being insulted and doing business with a company that claims they can do no wrong. read more

Our fridge decided to kick the bucket on a Monday night after we had just gone grocery shopping for the week on Sunday night...of course! We chose Van Dyke's based on word of mouth from co-workers who had just recently replaced their freezer for the same reason. We visited as soon as they opened on Tuesday morning. The store is much bigger on the inside than it appears from the outside. We were greeted right away. We asked to see the selection of refrigerators in stock and what was the soonest we could have it delivered. There was a good amount of appliances in stock to choose from. I was in sticker shock (no fault of theirs) with how much prices have gone up in the last few years. It was comparable to other places for prices and we wanted to keep it local to our community. We were able to pick out a new Whirlpool fridge and have it scheduled for delivery the following day at 11am. They called 15 minutes prior to let us know they were on their way. New fridge is installed and she is a beauty. I would recommend this company and will probably return to replace my other appliances as it comes up. read more

I had a great experience buying a dishwasher here after our old one died. I came by wanting to see if they had the model I wanted - they did. I went home and double-checked with my partner about buying it, then called and made the purchase and arrangements to install right over the phone. The cost was the exact same thing it would have been at a big box store, but with better service. They work with a local plumber to get installations done. The plumber called us and set up the appointment and was very professional and efficient in taking away our old appliance and getting the new one in. Very good experience overall and I'm glad to support a local family business. read more

Worst customer service!!! The motor went out of my two year old dishwasher, called to have someone come out and look. We where told the whole motor was back ordered so should order three parts to fix my motor, it would be fast and only 7-10 days but more expensive, ok. That was the beginning of November. Now the first of the year and still no parts!!! No one calls to update. I have called once a week and still can't find my parts. Told was going to look up tracking # to find where parts are, and now NO tracking ##. So now it's costing me more money and more time!! I will never use this company again their communication is horrible!! read more

I purchased a GE Oven from Van Dykes. It required me to wait 2 months for delivery, and to pay $100 more than I would have at a big box store, but I wanted to support a local business, and avail myself of the local support. From their website: "At Van Dyke Appliance, we go above and beyond our service to make sure your appliance works just right. If your appliance needs service or parts, our factory-trained technicians will be there quickly to reduce down-time." A week after delivery the broiler and air fryer ceased working. I called Van Dykes and they directed me to GE support. When questioned as to why their factory trained technicians could not service it, they told me that GE required only GE trained technicians to service it. That is reasonable, however they should make clear to prospective customers which brands they service, and which brands they don't. I had the hassle of arranging service with a GE repair service in Clackamas, and need to wait a week for my appointment. So much for the supposed benefit of local support. Van Dykes, please update your webpage to reflect which brands you can, and can not service. Knowing this would have informed my purchase decision. read more

The cook top in our new home was a bit warped - my cookware would not sit straight without wobbling, which I thought a bit dangerous. It was definitely something I needed to replace. Well, I went through the big box stores and found what I wanted -- but I really would prefer to keep our small businesses in business than buy from a place like Home Depot. I called Van Dyke and they had exactly what I wanted. Good people, great service and they matched the big box store price, which I truly appreciate. Small town friendly and very knowledgeable too. There was an extra charge for installation (a private contractor does their installation work), but it was quite reasonably priced and done right. And as a plus, the old cook top was recycled for me. I got my appliances from Van Dykes a few months back. I wanted to support local business with everything going on. Everyone was nice and I never really had a problem, until today. One of their handymen, Larry, called me out of the blue and asked if I was home and I said yes. I've been expecting a replacement part for my fridge so I wasn't super surprised Van Dykes called me. Larry was incredibly passive aggressive and honestly overall a bit of a jerk on the phone. When he asked if I was home he acted surprised but in a not nice way, so I asked why he was asking and he said he had come by an hour before and no one was home (I was at work and no one had called me prior to let me know to expect anyone). He was not nice about it. He got here and replaced the part. Then as he was about to leave, turned around and looked straight at my chest instead of my face. It was very obvious and I have no doubts in my mind that he looked directly at my breasts. After he left I called Van Dykes to report his behavior and was told by Becky that "if that incident did happen that I'll be talking to him" and "that's just how he is on the phone." She kept repeatedly saying "if that did happen" about him looking at my breasts which is absolutely disgusting. Obviously they condone sexual harassment if she's going to question me lying about him staring at my breasts. WHY would I call and complain about it if it didn't happen? And WHY would I feel the need to LIE about one of Van Dyke's employees harassing me and staring at my chest? It's absolutely ridiculous that I was treated this way, questioned about if this "happened or not." I'm definitely not going to be a customer there again and regret being a customer in the first place! No one should be treated the way I was. Especially because Becky is a woman, I'd expect her to be a little more sympathetic and KIND instead of doubting me. I was practically waiting for her to ask me what I was wearing. Control your employees and don't doubt your customers. Seriously. Van Dyke's employees are disgusting. read more

3 years ago, when i was remodeling my kitchen, I went to Van Dyke to check them out. I bought a stove top gas stove for an electric stove top. Van Dyke was excellent in recommending who can install gas lines to my home. They were great w ordering my new appliance and taking the old one to dispose of for free. This past month, my wall oven caught fire. it was 25 yrs old and again Van Dyke to the rescue. They were great to help me measure the correct opening to ensure the wall oven would fit. And they again took my old oven to dispose of for FREE. I highly recommend them for all your appliance needs. read more

Today after time on the phone with the Jenn Air troubleshooter guy, I knew it was going to cost me quite a bit to have my existing, 13 year old dishwasher fixed. I was on the fence until I called Van Dyke- Becky talked me thru options and was already knowledgeable about what was likely wrong with my appliance even before I gave all the troubleshooting details. Then she spent what was probably the next 15 minutes pointing me to some great new models and brands once I decided it was time to move on. I special ordered a part for my dishwasher. It was not what I needed so I tried to return it. I was told that they can't return special orders, it would cost them to ship it and it was over 30 days. I was not told of their return policy when I ordered the part. I left the part for them to keep and won't go back. New Whirlpool Washer the lid lock would not unload, called Whirlpool to have them fix under the warrenty, it would have taken over 1 month to have someone out to check issue. I called Van Dyke Appliances on Friday the 18th in desperation. I needed a built in electric wall oven delivered and installed before Thanksgiving and all of the big companies couldn't help me (Home Depot, Lowes). Van Dykes was able to order and deliver the stove today (23rd). They gave me a window of 12-1pm for delivery but actually got it delivered a few hours before that. I had to hire another person to install the oven but I was impressed/thankful that Van Dykes came through for me. The oven I purchased was $109 more than Home Depot but they were able to accommodate my time frame which made it worth it in my opinion! read more
