So... you can wait and wait for Costco to get in some particleboard TV stand with all the other lemmings. Or you can keep driving farther west out to Murphy's in Cornelius to get something made of actual wood that will last. Or could be sanded down and refinished if it gets a nick in it. Don't be fooled by this little shop. They carry a lot of lines of furniture. Many of them made right here in Oregon. The staff here really knows their stuff. And if they have a question they can't answer, they check with Kathy and Mary the owners, or they contact the actual furniture maker. (Who knew that was possible? Yes!) Note that they quoted me a 4-6 week wait to have my item made in Albany (I think was the town), and sent to their store. It actually was ready at 4 weeks! Also, in this time of Covid, if you call and give them some details of what you want (size, style budget) they can email you options before you even go in. We went early and on a weekday but picked up on a Sunday early and it was not crowded. I believe it's possible to place your whole order by phone and email, pay for delivery and never visit the shop. read more

This family-run furniture store in Cornelius, Oregon has great products and even better people. After recently moving to nearby Hillsboro, my wife and I needed to replace and update a lot of furniture. We were looking for good quality, wooden furniture. Luckily, we found Murphy's. Since then, we have bought a dresser, two night-tables, two desks, and a couple of bamboo mats, and have been extremely happy with all of them. I expect the furniture (except the bamboo mats) to last the rest of our lives. This is well-made, extremely attractive wood furniture. Murphy's carries in stock a variety of finished and unfinished furniture and they can special order many pieces with different finishes or hardware. Customer service is also excellent. Sisters Mary and Kathy have been in this business for a long time and know furniture well. They are friendly, non-pressure, and very, very knowledgeable. Murphy's furniture can seem more expensive, until you consider what you are getting: high-quality solid wood furniture, complete assembly, and a lifetime of use. This is not disposable furniture. In our search for the perfect bean bag, Princess and I wound up at Murphy's. The lady who helped us was super nice. Especially to my kid. Princess picked out a square-ish ottoman/bean bag sort of thing, pink. It cost $20. Not exactly what I had pictured,it's smaller than what I was envisioning, but she's happy. She also wandered around the store exclaiming about things. I admit I saw a few things that I sort of pined for. Still thinking about one particular table... some of their things were kind of expensive, I thought, but sort of one of a kind, which makes the expensive part less bothersome. They have some cool stuff. I think it's worth the trip. They had particularly cute unfinished garden benches and the like, and they had a big sign that said they offer free refinishing classes. Amazing folks, no pressure, informative and they will help guide you with quality purchasing decisions. I called Murphy as a last resort looking for a coffee bar/table console and spoke with Mary and she just happened to have exactly what I was looking for. At first I thought okay it's too perfect, that she had exactly what I wanted but when I met her and saw the piece I was so pleased. The furniture is QUALITY and their prices are really good. I recently purchase a bedroom set from Murphy's furniture . What great service I received from Mary. She listen to what I was wanting and she did the best job in helping chose the perfect set for best price. The head board had to be custom painted . And it turn out to exactly the best color ever. Her sister Katy made sure it was deliver quickly so I could have the bedroom ready for my guess. I saw a bed frame at another furniture store but purchased it through Murphy because their price was best. Thank goodness I did because they went above and beyond my expectations when the bed arrived damaged from the manufacturer. I had to take delivery of my mattress before the replacement bed arrived. They not only delivered the bed, but assembled it too and placed the box spring and mattress in the frame without a scratch. Thank you Kathy. I love Murphy's Furniture. They're a family owned business and they act like it. They're always helpful and friendly. I've gone in there multiple times over the years with something in mind that I want, and they will go through books containing all manner of furniture until I find what I want. They've even taken unfinished furniture and stained it to my specifications. Try finding that at a big box store. The overall cost for many of the items I purchased on sale didn't seem much more expensive than going out and trying to find something at Ikea. (And you don't have to deal with the frustrations of having to put the furniture together.) Over all, I like buying local, I like getting a piece of furniture I don't have to assemble out of a box, and I like Murphy's. read more

After visiting six other furniture stores in Hillsboro and Beaverton, we decided to finally check out this local place, which didn't look like much from the outside (we at first thought it was an Irish pub). I was stunned - it had, by far, the prettiest, highest-quality wood furniture, especially all kinds of tables and buffets and what not, that I had seen in all of our searches. They've got a lot of classic designs, but a lot of "newish" stuff as well. There was NO pressure to buy, and the friendly staff were happy to answer any of our questions, and leave us alone to wander around. They had a dining room table we fell in love with, and we special ordered the table in a particular color, with matching chairs (the chairs were already done - we bought them off the floor). All was delivered on time by two super nice delivery guys. But when my husband saw the set after work, he didn't like how different the table had turned out from the chairs in terms of color. He called Murphy's and two of the owners came right out - ON THEIR DAY OFF. One of the owners could tell my husband was really disappointed, and offered to try a darker finish on the chairs to make them more like the table. He took the chairs away and, the next day, came back with the chairs, which, while still not a perfect match, are much more similar in tone to the table, and my previously-disappointed husband was VERY pleased. I'm giving Murphy's five stars for their excellent selection, their competitive prices, their on-time, oh-so-careful delivery, their efforts to make it right, and for our GORGEOUS dining room set. Our experience at Murphy's Furniture was fantastic. We've been looking for the right furniture for our bedroom for years. Years because we kept buying the wrong furniture, looking for deals on craigslist then getting it in our room and realizing it was all wrong. The problem was we weren't getting what we REALLY wanted. Quality furniture that is well made and thus lasts a long time is worth the investment and at Murphy's, not only is it well made, it is custom made to fit exactly what you're looking for at a reasonable price. We found the perfect pieces of furniture for our room and then got to take part in creating them to our taste and style with the knowledgeable help of Kathy and Mary who have at least 30 yrs experience.
