I generally need between twelve and eighteen yards of various materials every Spring as I have a large property with lots of landscaping. As such, I have done business with most of the purveyor's of mulch and stone in the Albemarle County area. I have found Rose Hauling's products to be of high quality and the customer service to be top notch. I came on here to post this after reading through the 1 star review. It does sound like a poor experience but I would also suggest some culpability on the part of the reviewer since having some familiarity with the size stone being discussed should be expected. You can stop in at either Rose's or Luckstone and they can show you the different grades of materials including stone size.

Absolutely the worst experience ever with a delivery. Have always dealt with Luckstone whom I…read moreHIGHLY recommend for all your stone and hauling needs. Above and beyond customer service. Rose hauling suggested a #3 stone for setting up a shed on. This stone is EXTREMELY way to large for raking or leveling to set a prebuilt shed on using concrete block. I'm truly at a loss for words that a company being in business this long would have made such a grave error. After recommending the wrong stone they set up the delivery. It was asked a number of times and communicated to the driver on site that we needed it spread as much as possible. Mind you the driver was able to drive to the location of where the shed is being placed, no trees, no overhead powerlines, no buildings in his path.....however He COULD NOT SPREAD****HE DUMPED 4 yards of #3 stone right in the middle of the shed location. What in the world did he or anyone expect us to do with this. RAKE IT?????? I've never been so taken back by such blatant laziness and disregard for putting a customer in such a situation. Now, Rose Hauling completely blames us for the incorrect stone....which keep in mind THEY suggested since we had NO IDEA what to get and for the driver NOT being able to spread NOT one bit....but could clearly dump. Never again will I deal with such a company that takes no responsibility NOT EVEN AN APOLOGY. Which did I mention we now have to pay someone an additional $100 on top of the almost $400 we paid to deliver 5miles if that, spread this LARGE pile of VERY LARGE stone so that the shed can be set up tomorrow. Again, if you want a very customer service oriented company deal with Luckstone in Ruckersville. If I could give a NEGATIVE number this is truly what this business deserves.

They know plumbing and electrical and I can attest to the fact that they will sell you what you need and steer you away from what you don't need. I was shocked when they even loaned me a tool I intended to buy. ("Why buy one.... here... use ours .... bring it back Monday.") For $20 or so you can bring them a sample of water and they will get it lab tested and advise you on what water treatment you actually need. Based on their testing I did a DIY install of a water treatment system for less than half what I was quoted by a 'water expert'. They sketched it our for me and hooked me up with all the cpvc parts and glue... completed on a Saturday morning. Main Street carries the parts and fittings used by the professionals (including valves, fittings and equipment like compression tanks.) This is a big deal because in plumbing there is a major difference between the professional stuff and the not so professional materials stocked at the home improvement stores. ( It is a dirty secret I have learned the hard way and my suspicions were confirmed by a couple of master plumbers. This does not seem to be the case with electrical materials by the way.) Prices are fair, advice and smiles are free and they might even give you a complimentary cup of (probably nasty) drip coffee if you are nice to them! Highly recommended!

I called County Farm Service (CFS) to spray our trees for tent caterpillars. CFS sent a…read morerepresentative, Kenny, to look at the property and provide an estimate. I decided to also have him do a perimeter spray. Kenny said that our neighbors across the street would also need to spray, since their trees had caterpillars. I talked to my Home Owners Association and to my neighbor and arranged to have the spraying of the two properties on the same day. Kenny said that for some of the trees, he would not be able to use his truck but would have to carry the spray down the hill to the site because of the steepness of the hill. He did not give us a written estimate, but that is not unusual in this rural area. I arranged to take off work to supervise the spraying. The weather report for that morning said that there was a high likelihood of rain, and the skies had dark rainclouds. I called Kenny, who insisted that it was fine to spray. I refused. There was a substantial rainstorm an hour later. If Kenny had sprayed, it would have been wasted effort. We arranged the spraying for the next day. However, Kenny did not knock on the door or let me know that he was at the house, although I had told him via phone that I was there and my car was in the driveway. I watched some of the spraying from the windows and deck, specifically the spraying around the house. He told me he had already sprayed the trees. I asked if he had finished spraying the neighbor's trees. He then told me that the trees actually belonged to a different absentee neighbor who probably was not going to spray. I asked him why he hadn't told me that before he started work, since I probably would have cancelled the order. He repeated said that the trees did not need to be sprayed--that they always "come back." I asked him why--if the trees did not need to be sprayed--he had done the spraying and charged me for the work. Since he said he had done the spraying, I went ahead and paid him the $350 we had agreed upon. However, as he left, I noticed that there were no footprints or tire tracks going down to the trees with the tent caterpillars. I called Kenny and asked him about this. He admitted that he had NOT sprayed these trees--the whole purpose for my calling County Farm Services! He said the ground was too wet to get his truck down to the trees (although in the estimate, he said he was going to carry the pesticide because it was too steep for the truck). I asked him if he was going to come back to finish the job. He said yes. I called County Farm Services and talked with the branch manager, Don, who said he would look into the situation. I followed up with an email outlining the situation. I had not heard back by Monday mid-morning, so I cancelled the check and sent an email to Don saying that I would be happy to pay the full amount as soon as the work was completed. I asked him to schedule a new appointment to have someone come out and complete the spraying. Having another appointment to complete the work means that I or my husband must stay home from work. It is a considerable inconvenience.
