One of the coolest things they have are "treadable" plants for stepping stones. Some varieties were thyme and mint, and others seemed to be succulent-style to not smash under food, while there are blooming types as well. They have a great variety of shrubs, flowers, tomatoes, and bell peppers. Looks like they are getting deliveries often as the weather is warming up enough to start planting. Beautiful gardens, the two same friendly dogs still in residence, lots of herbs & native plants for sale, & informed owners more than willing to share their knowledge. Came away with a lovely native aster & a culinary sage this time. Last year's purchased native aster morphed from a one-footer when planted last fall into a 3-foot tall x 4-foot spread gorgeous cloud of tiny lavender blossoms a couple of weeks ago (& still going strong!), so am looking forward to planting another slightly different variety next to it for an additional show next fall. And the six different columbines I purchased last year also put on a glorious show this past spring, & their reseeded seedlings are popping up everywhere, which I love to see. All in all, a lovely little spot to pick up nice native or culturally-positive-to-the-area plants, as well as enthusiasm from the owners.

Recently, however, my…read morewife and I decided that we needed to completely redo a major bed in front of our house and decided that we needed to work with professionals for design, plant selection and installation. Having purchased from Grelen in the past, we called to discuss our needs and worked with Sarah on design and plant selection. She was very helpful and responsive and came up with a design that met our needs for a low maintenance, deer resistant garden. As part of the plan, we wanted to transplant 3 large (8' tall) boxwoods. The Grelen crew managed that part beautifully - picking up and moving the plants with skill and care. They then prepped the bedding areas carefully - keeping what we wanted and removing the rest; adding and tilling in compost and putting in new plants. The size and number of plants had to be adjusted slightly, but that was done very skillfully. Joaquin and Roman, the crew leaders made some excellent suggestions, based on their extensive experience, that we and Sarah were glad to take. The crew did great work: they were careful, neat, and skillful. I'm not sure where Grelen falls on the cost spectrum. Friends have said they are expensive. I'd say they aren't cheap, but I think they did very good work and were efficient, skilled and careful. So far, I think we've gotten what we paid for.

Grelen offered to apply preventive treatment to berries on numerous trees to counter a known rust…read morerisk. Other companies had done a good job in previous years, but the Grelen price was less and they promised a more environmentally safe product. In the end, the fruits were totally covered with and killed by rust -- it was the worst outcome in 12 years! Grelen refused any responsibility and would not even refund their fee, much less pay for the damage their incompetence caused. They were arrogant and argumentative. Find someone who will stand behind their work -- not Grelen!
