I was really impressed with the newest addition to the Pete's family when I popped in during a…read morevisit to Wolfville. It looks really small from the outside but they've done a shocking amount of things with the space and there's a whole lot of goodness packed in. With just about everything you can find at the city Pete's locations and a few special extras, all I could think about was how awesome it must be to go to Acadia and have all that within walking distance at all times. Where they go awry a little bit is on the to-go counters. The wait times ended up being a bit outrageous for no particular reason. A breakfast sandwich to go took about 25 minutes (no joke), and I saw a breakfast smoothie take about 15. Maybe they were just getting things started that morning and hadn't set up all their ingredients, but it was a bit much.

Modest in size compared to the Bedford and Halifax locations, the newest Pete's has all the amenities you would find in its sister locations, while bringing its own personality and charm to the table. This warehouse turned grocery store has a feeling like no other - exposed wooden beams in the ceiling, alcoves that give the illusion of rooms rather than departments, and finally the view - it's not everyday you shop for produce with a panoramic view of water and (a not so distant) Blomidon. I look forward to more visits to the Frootique!

Between the Bushes Restaurant & Blueberry Acres - blueberry picking anyone?

What an awesome find and just an hour or so from Halifax. It's only open from May (for the…read moredelightful restaurant) until the end of blueberry picking in September. And it's well worth marking it in your calendar for a wonderful day trip. The restaurant has a fabulous menu - you must try the blueberry poppyseed dressing - on a salad, or chicken - like the smoked chicken quesedilla. They even have a children's menu. But our little ones were too little (not to mention messy) to eat in their beautiful dining room. Not a problem though. There are picnic tables just outside right next to a Koy pond and some of the gazillion blueberry bushes where you can take out a sandwich or bring your own picnic. And speaking about blueberries. This pick-your-own farm is so big, they actually have a big, air conditioned bus to take you around to the best spots to pick and then collects you after you fill up your buckets.

Had an good meal. Appetizer (Tomato soup) was the standout. It was made with fresh tomatoes and was…read moreprobably the best tomato soup I have ever had. The mains were good but my Salmon was a bit overcooked and the Scallops were good but really didn't stand out. The biggest disappointment on the mains was the vegetable stir fry. It was bland and pretty tasteless. I would have preferred to just have some fresh beans steamed. The service was great and the setting is really wonderful. Unless it is really cold or windy I suggest you sit outside. Most people were sitting inside so we had the porch to ourselves and it was definitely the best seat in the house. Overall it is great but I would say that the mains are all almost exactly $10 overpriced. It was about $80 between two of us for appetizers, a main and splitting a desert. One of us also have a glass of wine.

We were in Halifax on a cruise and wanted to buy some Candian treats, preferrably maple candies,…read morefor gifts back home. Google maps revealed that this grocery store is a short walk from the cruise terminals, though you have to walk away from it a bit because of the railroad tracks. We found displays of maple syrup but had to ask for help finding the maple candy. It was in the bakery department and there was only one option but it met our need. There is plenty of parking for those with cars.

Then lower their prices by a fraction of what was raised just so they can act like they're doing us a favor. Highest prices for food in eastern Canada AND the US eastern seaboard. We are poor as dirt here but that doesn't stop them from keeping their prices as high as possible for as long as possible. Shop at walmart, let all their over priced meats rot on the shelves (as they are, just wait a day and 90% of the meat will be 50% off and likely rotten the next morning but they'll gladly sell it to you) Personal peave: Every shopping cart sounds like a dump tuck full of sheet metal because they refuse to service them as it would cost money and might make the whole experience slightly less horrific. If you let a clerk know about a huge spill people are walking all over they'll audibly sigh and roll their eyes at you.
