I did end up finding a dress that would work for one of the outfits I was building, but the price was in the moderate/higher range than what I was accustomed to. I paid $15 for a off brand dress. They do have a fitting room which is a plus though! The area in which this shop is located in does have transients in the parking lot, so just be alert of your surroundings. read more

I would not recommend this place to shop as it's poorly organized (clothing sizes are all mixed in together) and the clothes are mostly worn out and poor quality. If you must go, go on the weekends when things are 50% off. Also be aware of the scammers in the parking lot, so go during daylight and not alone. read more

YOU CANNOT BEAT THE PRICES!!!! and in this economy what more do you need to be honesttt... but aside from that as an 18 y/o girl i like their clothes selection and they have cool random stuff like a vhs tape camcorder ($10.) it's more musty than your average goodwill, and it is very hot inside the store during the summer but i think it is worth it for the cheap prices. an average piece of clothing there is $3 i'd say--even cheaper on half off days! but to be honest the prices can even go down to a normal price of 50 cents for a plain t shirt or accent scarf. the staff is also friendly and helpful in my experience :) read more

The prices are still great, but they do not believe in making it comfortable for you to shop. It's 86 degrees outside and the management refuses to turn the air on at this location. (You go to the one on Layton and it's cool and comfortable.) So when you walk in the smells are more pungent and you start to sweat while trying to shop. A lot of my favorite staff no longer works there and it's hit or miss with customer service at this location. I also don't like how the manager talks to her staff at this location RUDE!! read more

VV throws things out and it's disgusting! Perfectly useable items. I saw it myself when I picked something up from the loading dock. If I donated things and found out they were thrown out, I'd be furious. My sister worked there. The employees must "rag" the clothing regularly. That means they grab everything that's a certain color tag, throw it into a cart and out it goes. I was appalled. That stuff could go to a homeless shelter or Third World country. I would NEVER donate to VV. I find myself wondering if Purple Heart Veterans even benefit from this place! I take my things to the many shelters where people have nothing. Or Homeless Veterans Initiative where they help homeless veterans furnish an apartment. Or charities where they provide clothing for women joining or returning to the workforce. Or the VA where they have clothing rooms for men and women. read more

So, this Value Village is next door to a Honeydip Donuts. Just thought I'd throw that out there, incase anyone wants to win me over, take me to Honeydip Donuts and Value Village. And then Phan's Garden for lunch. Anyways. The stuffs? Great. There's a pretty high amount of turnover in the stuffs category. They rotate the layout of the store every few months, which is pretty galdarned smart. This location tends to have more in the kid's & men's departments. Also, they have very little furniture, so if you're looking for a sweet couch, I wouldn't check here. They usually have a decent amount of knick knacks and golf clubs. And scarves. And purses (or as I like to call them "lady bags.") And jewelry. Actually, the jewelry lately looks like it's all from some DIY safari maiden. Not kidding. In the past 6 months the majority of the jewelry here has been painted wooden animal necklaces and matching earrings. Totally not what I'm looking for, but hilarious nonetheless. The record selection? Pretty okay. Sometimes there's some surprising 7"s, but most times it's not worth checking. The staffs? Good! The staff are generally pretty friendly and they always wrap my breakables without me asking, which is a huge bonus. The bathroom? I've never found it, which is probably a good thing. Overall, this is a pretty legit thrift store. I wouldn't go out of my way to stop there, but if you're in the neighborhood, make a point of checking out those DIY safari necklaces. I've been shopping here for 15 years, and it is my main store for everything I wear and use in my home. Since having a baby, I've acquired most his clothes and toys from there as well. It seems in recent years, many have built up businesses from their finds at thrift stores. Good for them! It makes finding a gem in the rough here is even even more gratifying and serendipitous, and keeps my spending to a low. Just yesterday, I scored my new favorite sundress, a beautiful Cuban shirt, books and toy car for my son and an entire stack of onesies for my friend's new baby for $17. Shopping there is like being on vacation. I love sorting through to see what's been donated, but what has always stood out to me most are the employees and shoppers in this store: They are the friendliest people on a planet earth; always up for a little chit-chat, smilie and the customer service is on key; a rarity in most establishments these days, unfortunately. I feel this store is a microcosmic representation of Milwaukee: It's a bit dirty (as all thrift stores tend to be), but the people are humble and wonderful and are the heart of this store. And it's close to Honey Dip Donuts, which makes coming here an even bigger treat. Thank you, Value Village, for all that you do for our community. read more

Value Village: Not nearly as fun if you aren't looking for a costume. I love costumes & dressin' up all silly & stuff. I've been to this location a few times. The only time I went without anything specific to find, I was in and out in less that 5 minutes. It ain't pretty in there. It's rather large. It's not in charge. Not in charge of anything, really. Busch League Sega stuff, man. Compared to the city's Goodwills & other thrift shops, this place is lagging behind. I'm not sure if it's even panting & sweating with short choppy steps. It may be at the stage where it's pulling itself along the ground by its fingers while its tongue drags. But I could be wrong. It might just be lying in the ditch with X's over its eyes. Hopefully there are still a few happy, dizzy birds chirping & circling its head. That's an indication that it can be revived for another big Halloween. Lots of clothes to pick through. Sparse selection of other household items. Florescent lighting. Dingy things. Value Village is more fun if you are looking for a costume. Or if you're drunk. read more

It's nice to see so many fellow Yelp-ers review this place. I stumbled upon this location several years ago while searching for an ugly holiday sweater for my annual "staff holiday family photo." *The location is not as sketchy as the average person would have you believe. I feel like most people describe an area as sketchy if they see/hear someone different from them (i.e. my review from Target when I called out reviewers for commenting on bilingual signs). Unless there is someone brandishing a weapon, openly selling illegal substances, or bleeding out by the entrance, it doesn't count as sketchy. OK, rant over. *The selection is not great compared to other thrift stores. Way more items for the ladies than the men, though I have found some pretty boss t-shirts and dress slacks here in the past. Even found a purple sport coat to wear for an elegant dinner that I swear I could have picked up at Retique! Yes, purple. *I used to really dig the books section here, but the collection has dwindled a bit in the past six months. However, if you're looking for trashy romance novels or twenty year old sports magazines -- this VV location is your jam! *The games section is a hoot. I've found everything from old Sega Genesis cartridges (which surprisingly still worked) to Trivial Pursuit, Yahtzee, and puzzles. 75% of my visits net something cool from this section. *The housewares/electronics section is a disaster, as other reviewers have noted. Most items are broken or strewn about, making a potential ankle sprain imminent. *The parking lot is chaos...often I have had to dodge some errant drivers. Be careful, Yelp-ers! *Again, as other folks have noted, VV is not a clean store. You will feel dirty after walking in and will probably want to wash your hands (as well as any clothes you purchase) shortly after leaving. I've been to much worse thrift stores, but have also seen better. 2 stars, nothing more, but if you have an extra 25-30 minutes and are driving by, it is worth a stop. read more

There are three Value Villages that I hit up when thrifting. This is Value Village #2 of the three, located conveniently near the beautiful MKE Domes off National and on 27th. I don't know if there are more than three Value Villages, but I think probably. I think there's one off Good Hope on the fringes of good ol' Menomonee Falls, where on the playground, I spent most of my days. It should be noted that Value Villages are not for the faint of heart. You're going to want to wash your hands immediately upon your departure. Go to the bathroom before you go. With that, my first in a three-part series I'd like to title "Set A-thrift on Memory Bliss: the Villages of Value." ----- Value Village #2: hit or miss more so than the others, combined. When it's good, it's gooood. When it's bad, it's oh-so bad. Specialties/good selection of: summertime shoes (barely worn heels in every color), strange knick knacks, belts/purses Not so good: furniture, dresses, women's clothing (although you'll find an occasional gem if you take the time to really go through everything...) There's also an entire section devoted to stuffed animals, primarily teddy bears. They're densely packed into one area. This creeps the ever living shit out of me. Also, a note for the crafty/those geared towards more eclectic tastes in home decor: You'll sometimes find a gem of a tapestry chillin' in the bedding section. This seems gross, but seriously. Old curtains/tapestries straight out of 1972. read more

I am usually not this blunt, but this place warrants it. Absolutely disgusting. I would not send my worst enemy to this place. First, there was nothing there. The home wares section was literally depleted. The clothing is all old, but not in the cute, trendy vintage way. It smells. Like death. Or old people near death. My boyfriend made the mistake of using the bathroom. He said there was garbage everywhere and the toilet itself was clogged. The thing that really gets me is how much they charge for the shit. It's marked WAY up and then on the weekends the make everything half off. How bout you just price it fairly to begin with? 12 dollars for a 1980's dress? You've got to be kidding me. PASS. read more

We stopped in this Value Village recently and didn't find too much. There are plenty of clothes, some small knick knacks on a few rows of shelving and a few collectibles tucked cases up front. The furniture department was hammered. It was an absolute mess with everything piled in a long continuous mound of junky furniture. No room to walk through so you had to walk around the mess to get to the other side to view things. It was like a bomb went off in that department. Too much stuff piled onto other stuff and it looked horrible. Might be time to load the dumpster with some of that stuff or lower the prices. We didn't find any treasures that day. read more

If I could rate this 4.5 stars I would. Not quite a 5 just because sometimes is a hit or miss. If you are looking for trendy clothes such as Harley Davidson, champion, vintage mom jeans and even Tommy Hilfiger this is the store to go to. Often times there is some sketchy people in there, but the employees are always super nice and let you do your shopping in peace which I like. The 50% off days are usually when I go because I can buy an entire bag of clothes for about $20 compared to $40. It's always an adventure to see what you can get. My best finds here are a vintage pair of Calvin Klein jeans, 2 cashmere sweaters, and a lot of vintage tshirts. Definitely worth checking out if you have a few hours to spare. Digging for gems is always worth it. read more

Anyone who reviews this place poorly is an idiot. You can't beat the prices, you can't complain if you haven't got the patience to find the treasures, and you certainly can't say anything bad about what any thrift store provides its community. The staff is friendly enough, sometimes I wish they would acknowledge me more quickly at the jewelry counter, but they're always pleasant and helpful . I have had extremely positive experiences dealing with the woman manager at this location. She is knowledgeable and flexible. I'll continue to shop here regularly. read more

If you ever want to imagine what sweat, urine, and butt soup smell all together in one combination, this is the place to go. Most stuff is overpriced and incredibly ugly, and not in a "Its so ugly I could sell it for a million bucks to someone weird and rich" way, but in "I wouldn't pick it off the side of the road" ugly. The service is kind of nonexistent, which is not surprising- I don't understand how anyone could sit in that gross environment. Basically, its crap. read more
