How can you not love Value Village! It's under the MYUNIQUE chain and they have an app!!! SO.... let's begin.... Merchandise : This particular location is great!!! Great selection in my opinion! The sweaters for fall/winter, honey, you'll find at least 20 you'll like. All types of name brands. The skirts have a great selection, the bags, if you like vintage looking bags or old school Liz Claiborne or Dooney&Bourke you'll find it!! It's definitely one of those places to take your time in. They bring out more stuff it seems like every 20 minutes. I can't tell you the amount of boots Ive purchased in the past few months!!! As far as the condition of things, I mean here and there you'll find something that may have a tare or stain but they have so much stuff you'll find something worth purchasing. The jeans have a GREAT selection. Racks on racks of jeans! The dress, I can't say I'm a huge fan (going based off of my style) but everyone is different so you may find something you'll like!! The skirts have a great selection, especially if you're looking for modesty in length!! The belts... ugh! I love vintage looking belts and let's just say I have enough to pass down to my children's children from there. The coats, I'm not too happy about but it's not like you'll NEVER find anything. The men's section is pretty stocked!! Shoes/ Suits/ Shirts/ Sweaters/ Jackets!! For my male thrifters, take your time!! You'll find something!!! For the amount of merchandise they have they keep it pretty organized!! You're going to find rare pieces. I promise!!! Pricing : UHHH it's called Value Village for a reason! Like I mentioned before the app is amazing! When you sign up you get your own VIP card through the app and it notifies you when they have either 25% off or 50% which is every week. LITERALLY!!! You get points every time you shop when they scan your card. They'll have a sale for the VIP members only or a store wide sale for anyone who walks in. When they send out the coupon via the app, they don't always send it to everyone who has it all the time. But even if you don't have it that day, you can use someone else's coupon in the store if they have it (Everyone shares which is great). Even without the sales, this place is a goldmine with their prices. Depending on the condition and brand I can go from $4-$40. Big gap I know but all my sweaters have been in FANTASTIC condition and I've never paid more then $7... and that's without the sale!!! Customer service : There is sometimes a language barrier because the staff is Hispanic for the most part, but hey!!! Prompts me to learn Spanish!! They are very sweet and as informative as can be. No complaints on my end!!! They have a fitting room (you can only bring in 3 items at a time) which is fantastic because there are no returns or exchanges. They do take cash/cards They have a home goods section in the back. Haven't really browsed that section but from the looks of it you're going to find something. BUT when I was at the front of the line ( they have the big furniture in the front of the store by the registers) In one of my weekly stops, I spotted two couches (love seat and full couch) in FANTASTIC CONDITION and got the pair for $26... yess I said $26 ALL TOGETHER!! It was 50 % off that day. I would have been a fool to leave them there. They give you until the next morning to pick it up. Surprisingly this Value Village had some great finds. not a large mens suit selection but great selection of sz12+ mens shoes which are always hard to find. I walked away with 2 pair. Also was able to score a few mens blazers for my shop Standrey.com also found some vintage bar stuff which I've been lookin for for a while to start up my personal bar. I found some great shakers. Prices at unique are creeping up but this one was decent. read more

I am disgusted of customer service at the unique located in Paterson, NJ. They have rude cashier (ANA) and manager (Trinidad) at the store. They did not assist me as customer with respect, I was having a problem getting the coupon through my phone and when asked if there is anyway a cashier or manager could help me they simple mistreated me by verbally. Since I couldn't open my coupon she interpreted me as a beggar.The cashier said I was wasting her time and she couldn't spend so much time with me in the register. I am was in complete shock because I am a frequent shopper, there where no ethics in customer service. I am highly disappointed and hope something could be done about this problem. read more

I am a long time customer. I have been shopping there since the week they opened. However I have a love - hate relationship with this store! I have found some very cool and nice things there and the 25% & 50% off sales are great promotions. They have upgraded over the years from just grease pen prices on items to scannable bar codes which makes for easier checkout. They usually have stuff pretty well sorted into categories and sizes. There are issues however. My 1st issue is that very often you will encounter a cashier who speaks zero english. I have no problem with people who are still learning, but they need to be able to handle the checkout process. I have had issues with things being rung up incorrectly followed by an extended delay waiting for someone who speaks english to come sort it out. My 2nd and biggest complaint is their pricing. When they opened there were bargains everywhere. Year by year prices have gone up and up and now have become absurd on many items! Best example is $9.99 for used hardcover books! This is not just a special book here and there, it is stack after stack of books in the isle at $9.99! It is a real mixed bag as to if you will find good items at good prices or not. You can find two of the same item and they could be priced $6.99 and $19.99. If you are ok with knowing you really need to pack your patience and keep an eye out for the over/under priced items it is worth checking out. read more

I never write reviews, but this time I'be had it and decided to post one and tried real hard to be fair and objective. "The good, the bad and the ugly!" THE GOOD: I've been to this store several times now over the course of 7 months. You can always find bargain, although the last trip a week ago the prices were much higher. I only shop on discount days (25% or 50%), and walk out with tons of stuff. What you find if you are patient and have a few hours to spear, is worth it. THE BAD: I compare this store to the Bronx Unique, and the prices are higher here (don't really see why that would be the case, but it is). So you really have to know your stuff: what you are buying and what its worth. The store is more or less clean, all things considered, but the bathrooms and fitting rooms are a disaster! Also items in Value Village are quite often broken, which is expected I guess in the place like that, but why keep them on the shelves then? Another thing is there are a lot of items, that I would have loved to buy, that don't have price stickers. I was told many times, that if there are no prices on them you can't buy it. The floor manager could have assess the price right then and there, but they wouldn't do it. Their loss or mine? Again why keep priceless items on the shelves? It's like showing cheese to a mouse to bargain hunter like myself. Very disappointing. THE UGLY (AND I MEAN REALLY UGLY): CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKS!!!!! I realize that I am not shopping in Bloomingdale's, but a little respect and courtesy wouldn't hurt! Granted it took one bad egg to spoil my opinion of the staff. I have to say that they are not all bad, but there is one bitch (yes, I mean real bitch), an older lady standing behind the jewelry counter, who should be fired in my opinion. I am not even mentioning that she hardly speaks a word of English (most of them don't speak English, which is fine with me. We all came to the U.S. from somewhere one time or the other or our parents or grandparents did). She stands there behind the counter with the face that lets you know that she really doesn't want to be there, and you are there in her face to bother her. The pieces of jewelry they have are all stocked half-hazardly one on top of the other behind glass (they have a lot of it), so it's very hard to see anything. She (The Bitch) is there to show you what you want to see. So SHOW IT TO ME THEN!!! She is very impatient and acts surprised and annoyed if you don't buy what she shows you. I like to take my time and look at the back of the piece, b/c among all the junk they have there sometimes you can find something nice. I also like to make sure that the stones are not missing and there is no other damage. The Bitch can't handle that for some reason. One time I was there she spoke in Spanish to other staff saying that I am spending there 3 hours, which was absolutely untrue, but even if I wanted to stare at her face for three hours it is my prerogative as a customer, and customer is always right or at least should be.The last time I am was there she was cursing me under her breath in Spanish thinking that I didn't understand her. I happened to speak fluently several languages (Spanish is not one of them so I couldn't answer her), but I understood every word she said. This is unacceptable! If you have no patience and don't like people, don't work there!!!! So the moral of the story: I'd think twice before going there again. You can find the same bargain in other Unique stores. No one cursed at me in the Bronx, maybe I'll go there next time. Another thing is don't be misled by the fact these stores live on donations. This is Not a non-profit organization. I am an thrift store holic that goes around thrift shops looking for a good deal. I must say Value Village in Hawthorne has anything that I was looking for. Before they started using the barcodes and computer printed tags, Pricing was very reasonable. I remember game consoles use to be 6.99$ for just the console only and 12.99$ with all the cords and controllers. Now the place charges game consoles around 19.99$ for everything including cords and controllers despite of the condition they're in, but I've seen some old school consoles go for less that $6.99 before but its very rare now to find one that cheap. Toys are well organized too in plastic bags and priced correctly. and the inventory is good too every 3 days there's always something new to see here. Like some thrift stores, sometimes it's a hit or miss when finding something that you are interested in finding. Like other thrift stores, they don't really clean the donated merchandise they get in inventory. For me I use a wash cloth and rubbing alcohol to clean off the electronics that I get from there. It would be good if Unique started incorporating the use of washcloths and rubbing alcohol to clean people's old donated merchandise, but other than that, its a good place and I recommend it. Sometimes the finds can be good but then you look at the price tag and wonder why they are charging 12.99 for a used sweater. Or 9.99 for a necklace with missing components. This is a thrift store but they think they are running a department store with their inflated exploitation of donations. Also upon checkout I was waiting for a family member to finish and was looking at a nearby rack right next to the register and this employee had the nerve to make me walk across the store and she literally grabbed my bag of already purchased items placed them behind the counter and handed me a ticket because I was looking at a rack of coats by the register. Talk about unnecessary, especially since my bag was filled to the brim with my purchases which she has no control over because I purchased them. She somehow had the idea that I can fit a large coat into my already filled bag while three employees are next to me, ain't that a smart one. If this place is going to treat paying customers like convicts, especially ones who already purchased items with a receipt then they are going to lose business as I have never seen such a poor excuse of an employee in my life, as in doing such things will drive customers away and make the place look like trash, they should probably fire that woman as she is doing harm to their business. It was like she was asserting her aggression or something just because I am not in the typical demographic of the regular shopper. read more
