As the only Valley Village in Bellingham or anywhere for Miles, our visit yesterday was quite a letdown. Plenty of stock in every category. That pricing was expensive even with US dollars was disappointing. I'm sure I've seen things priced exactly the same for the same amounts though in Canadian dollars instead US. Anything even resembling a decent name brand was marked up in the $15 to $20 range- that included sweaters, polo shirts and similar. Considering the condition of some of these items, I would not have purchased anything without a heavy discount or coupon in hand . Did not really find anything I was looking for, including some of the name brands that I prefer. If I return in future, It would only be on account of the great supermarket across the way- WinCo foods. read more

Store is insanely overpriced & the quality of items is severely lacking. Prepare to pay $20+ for stained/ripped/outdated jeans and knick-knacks for 2-3x current retail prices. Collectibles are being sold for more than they can be found at literal antique stores & online retailers. You'll also have to prepare to dodge the employees putting out items, as they will plow through the aisles with their racks of items with no regard to the people around them. They will cut in front of you to place items without saying excuse me and force you to shop around them instead of allowing you to pass through the aisle and get out of their way. Not to mention a lot of the items being sold here are actual trash ie: half empty shampoo bottles, used make up products, empty pickle jars being sold for $5, Dollar Store toys being sold for $3-5, etc. Lately they've also been shutting down the entire jewelry aisle in order to rearrange it at random times/intervals, which is annoying when that's one of the only things you like to look at. I used to like this store a lot because it used to be affordable, but in the last 6-12 months something has definitely changed for the worse. read more

I bought some used wireless headphones in the box the yesterday for $50. Took them home and they didn't work. I tried to return them today and was told they only did returns on clothes. I pointed out that it doesn't day anywhere on the box sold as is. They showed me some small type at the bottom of the reciept.. They get our stuff for free, and wont guarantee or refund big purchases. Seems shady AF! Didn't they also have a scandle a few years back to where they said they were a non-profit? Lame, lame, lame. During the Covid epidemic Value Village took down their dressing rooms. After the epidemic the Bellingham store did not reinstall them. So there is no way to try on an article of clothing in the store. It has to be purchased, taken home to try on and then returned when it does not fit. So Value Village gets their money and you have the inconvenience of return. I am seeing the reason why the dressing rooms have not been reinstalled. It's profitable. read more

Can't say the same for our locations (Messy, Rude staff, Smells like pee/musty) but this is one of the best Value Villages i've been to and would definitely be back soon. Value Village is a corporately owned secondhand store that has gone way down in the past decade. No dressing rooms since pandemic lockdown & no check out lanes except self check. The return policy is a joke. There are few deals to be found. Anything truly vintage is often ripped and marked up. A pilly Target shirt for $12?!! You can get it new for less. A slightly felted merino wool sweater will run you $29. You know their CEO is making bank. Better to support local thrifts or buy from individuals on Poshmark/Ebay where deals & the quality are way better & the owners actually care about customer satisfaction. I am completely baffled by the fact this store thinks they can mark their prices up as high as they do. Even for items that are practically unwearable. 26.99$ for a pair of beat to crap boots? Who is doing the pricing on these items? 10.99 for a flower vase? 12.99 plain shirts? Lots to choose from. Discount days. Great staff. Member rewards. I try to only buy, the daily discounts. The daily prices are average and I find shopping here, well worth the couple extra bucks, because of the awesome selection they seem to have. They close too early but are open on Sundays. The staff is always very nice. been coming here for a while just cause its the biggest thrift store around, and i donate every time (not just junk some decent stuff sometimes) and ive spent alot of money even buying pricey stuff from behind the counter. but now today, when checking out an employee inadvertently accused me of tag swapping and (i assume the manager) took two things from me, took forever to switch the tags and tried to charge me 20$ for pants that were 7$ i felt like i was getting scammed and they were just tryna get extra money out if me. when i asked why 20, she in a super condescending tone answered "cause theyre wool ". so for the fact that id call myself a pretty friendly and loyal customer, this was a super bad experience, theres like only a handful of friendly employees but the rest ive interacted with are rude. so poor attitude and most items having horrendous pricing makes me think theyre deserving of 1 star, even 0 if it was possible. go donate to goodwill instead of here read more

This has become one of my favorite thrift stores. They have a seemingly endless inventory of everything you can imagine. I have great luck at finding designer shoes at 10% of the cost of a new pair. I love the selection of home decor and their backroom full of furniture finds. Today I purchased two designer throw pillows and a high end thermo mug, a funky beveled glass paned mirror, and some board games, etc. etc. etc This store is truly a fun place to browse just for the entertainment value! read more

Value Village is my happy place! When I have some time in between errands this is where you'll find me. I agree with the others who have reviewed and have stated that the prices are creeping up. But every day a different colored tag is 50% off. If I find something that is not "my price" there is so much stuff there I usually find something that is "my price" and always feel like I great deal. For example on this my most recent visit, I ended up with name brand very good condition winter coat (water proof exterior and zip out lining) for $10.80 (before any discounts), also a name brand good condition Sherpa lined sweatshirt for $3.99. The third item was not really "my price" but my son loved it so, $8.99 new/unworn condition name Brand shirt . When I got to the register the clerk told Me that I had a 20% off coupon available to use. So yeah, great deal no?! Club member savings is awesome and I think you can sign up at the register when you check out or online. You will get emails telling you about different sale days. Also Tuesday (I think it's Tuesday;) is senior day.. so just 55 and older you get more discounts every week! When you donate here be sure and ask For a store coupon:) The employees are the best!! Always super enthusiastic and seem to enjoy their jobs (I am so jealous!!) So go check it out and see what you think. This I a pretty good place to go for second hand items at a good price. We found this place by accident. I watched the donation drop off and there's so much good quality crap being donated. The store don't stink like Goodwill stores. There's usually a good selection of things to buy. I've spent a lot of money at the Kent, WA, Value Village recently, thinking I was racking up points to use later. I knew I had more than 500 points and decided to use a few on a $30 purchase. That's when I discovered that, according to VV's records, I only had about 50 points. A clerk had promised me on my previous visit that if I spent a hundred dollars, 100 of my points would be deducted and I would get 20% off my purchase price. But NO, my 500 points are ALL gone. An employee said I should come back when the manager was there. Are they paying for my time and gas? Not likely. But they will pay for ripping off a very good customer - because I won't be back. Disappointed in a recent trip to Value Village as they have replaced all but one of the checkout counters with self-checkout, which I despise. If I wanted an anonymous, soulless, machine led experience, I would shop on Amazon. I waited in line, in fact, for the only cashier, and when they became available, they pointed to the self-checkout. When I said I would rather work with a cashier, they led me to the self checkout and started trying to teach me how to use it. I'm fully capable of using it, I just don't want to. Ended up ringing up my own basket of goods, removing the hangers, and bagging them. I might as well work there. read more

Thrifting at Value Village is very inconsistent. Pricing has changed a lot, and I find many items priced at a Similar price to when they were new...not really what we're looking for in a thrift store. Combine that with a tendency to price anything they consider "collectible" at high prices and I often wonder what's the point of coming anymore? You can try and haggle with them about prices, but the managers now tend to lamely say "oh that's really valuable"...but it's in a thrift store and we're all here looking for a bargain. read more

I've been coming to this particular VV for 10 years. Over the last 3 years or so it seems like prices are skyrocketing and you can never find a deal. They charge 5.99 for a used book (INSANE) and anything that could be of any value is sequestered away in the "showcase" area, where the attendants are slow and typically quite rude. I'm always on the hunt for used lego sets, and VV has been pricing them to the equivalent of buying from eBay or other used Lego buying sites. So now, i just get the sets I actually want from eBay. I do like their drop off for used goods, and the 20% off coupon, but at this point, I'd rather support the local thrift stores. read more

Holy cannoli! Why hasn't anyone mentioned this place to me?! There's so much stuff! Huge store. Some reasonable and some ridiculous pricing. In the clothes, really take time to do some searching. I found 3 dresses and a top/shirt combo for about $18 total. The dressing room line can be a little ridiculous. 6 items allowed, 10 minutes given....unless you're a young college aged woman. In that case, you're given extra time to prance around the outside of your dressing room. The workers seemed to be pleasant enough. As a big fan of thrift store shopping I've always loved the selection at Value Village, but lately I've noticed (at all of their stores) that prices are creeping up into the range you'd expect to find at a consignment store, not a gigantic thrift store like this is. They do have a decent selection of just about everything, but the quality of 95% of their items is not nearly high enough to justify their prices. I've seen some goods priced for more than you would pay to get them brand new - that's just ridiculous. Their book prices are also over-the-top. Isn't the point to get merchandise out the door? I see a lot of it just sitting, so hopefully they'll get the message and lower their prices a bit, and soon. read more

I like a good thrift-store treasure hunt. Yesterday while in the midst of my treasure hunt I was greeted by a young dark-haired staff member. I turned to reciprocate the greeting and realized that I must have been perceived as a suspicious character: "That backpack is it yours or a purchase?" she asked. "It's mine," I said. "Could I get you to put it behind register 1 over there?" she said, pointing to the front of the store. I felt no need to describe that I value my own belongings, but I inquired, "What about my wallet, and credit cards and all that?" "Oh, there's cameras over there behind the register..." I'd sooner walk out with no purchases, than agree to leave belongings under the guard of an unknown party. I've shopped this & other Value Village stores many times but this request, was only ever made during my last visit to the one near Bellis Fair (150 E Bellis Fair Pkwy, Bellingham WA), around 410PM on 08/24/2015. For all I know, leaving knapsacks behind the register could be a brand new rule which now exists just at this store. Or it could have been invented at 4:10PM especially for me, by a special someone who didn't like my look. Who would know? Elsewhere in this store were other customers, some with purses and some with knapsacks like mine, but I certainly wouldn't wish the same suspicious treatment upon them. Anyway, I nodded at the person standing before me; I trust that Value Village staff simply does as store management has trained them to do, however inconsistently that might be. Other staff at this store have been pleasant enough. This one finished our conversation off with "Yeah, if you could do that." Then I made my way past register 1, and all the way out the door -- cutting this visit short, making no purchases. I've since been asked why I didn't choose to give the staff "a piece of my mind". The answer is that some things are well worth fighting over and others are simply not worth a bit of my energy, especially in my spare time. It had already been a long day of driving up the I-5. Normally, a stop at the thrift store is a truly relaxing activity AND, there are very many other thrift stores in the area with great customer service. I myself, continued with my family (still wearing my knapsack LOL...) onto the Goodwill store on East Sunset Drive, where we completed our usual fun thrift store experience and even enjoyed conversation with the staff. All Goodwill red tag items were selling for $1.79 that day regardless of the original price. So, to be snubbed away from Value Village earlier, turned out a great day for us nevertheless! Now from the comfort of my desk I'm leisurely penning my daily journal entry (entry-turned-Yelp-review) and advice that if you should happen to walk into the Bellis Fair Value Village store, on a day when you've chosen to use a knapsack for your belongings (instead of say, a purse), then you may -- or may not! -- be approached by staff asking you to part with your knapsack, halfway through your shopping experience. If you don't like those odds, then I would recommend to give this particular store a miss and visit any number of the many other thrift stores in Bellingham. He yelled at me to put a mask on even though I am medically exempt and carry a doctors note stating this, after I put the bags in the donation bin he took them out and threw them on the ground and demanded that I take them away; because of his actions and body language I have been having PTSD episodes for the past 30 minutes. I am not sure if I should be embarrassed or proud that my husband and I go to this store on our date nights. We appreciate a good bargain. Our first Christmas together was furnished exclusively by this store. We have an eye for luxury items, but can rarely afford them, but we don't mind purchasing used items so thrift stores are our best friends. I enjoy how often the inventory changes, each visit hold the possibility of discovering something truly awesome. My favorite time to visit is during their holiday sales. You need to be prepared for large crowds, and long changing room lines, but the savings are worth it. I have purchased $300 dresses for less than$20 bucks, and scored deals on VS, BCBG, and Bombay brands. I think our most amazing find was an Ethan Allen bookcase for $20 that we re-purposed as a wardrobe for our nursery. That piece of furniture, even used, can go for upwards of $1,000.00. Thrifting takes its due diligence but we don't mind being patient at this location, it always pays off. Drop off is also very simple. The staff that minds this part of the store are very helpful and kind. We get lots of help when we have large items to unload. read more

Like many thrift stores, this Value Village is a bit overpriced for their selection but you can usually be guaranteed to find at least one thing that you like. Over the years I have found some very cool vintage shirts and some classic staples (like a nautical striped shirt). I just don't find very much at one time (usually 3 pieces of clothing), so be prepared to wade through a lot of crap before finding a treasure. Overall: Definitely worth the effort, but be prepared for potential disappointment (or at least a small reward) read more

The prices at this location are hit and miss in terms of value- some items are a great deal- some are almost full retail. I wonder if part of this is because of the color coded sticker discounts (knowing it will eventually go to a color that is 50% off- the value then changes fast). The store is clean, has a good variety and does a great job at organizing and displaying clothing items. Pants are hung on side hang rail bars at an angel making them easy to see. This might result in less being on display but makes the presentation very impressive and easy to shop. All in all though this store is well run and can find unique finds. read more

They have a large variety of stuff, I'll give them that. However, they are way overpriced. Do they not realize they are selling second hand items? When I went there this weekend they were literally selling a USED already half burnt candle for $4. I can buy a brand new candle for $4.. who are they kidding? The prices on things are not consistent either. They will be selling a couch for $10, but a woven basket for $5. When I go to a thrift store, I expect prices for stuff to be under $5, with smaller items being $1. I would rather just go buy something brand new and spend the extra money. They have an amazing selection of books, but again they are all $3-$5 which I feel like is a lot for used books they get for free. I can buy used books at that price at a local used book store and support a small business. The other thing is the check out lines.
