The store is laid out well with a variety of items. The prices are reasonable, I just didn't see much when I went. But that is how thrift shopping goes, it's often hit or miss. Yes, it is THAT awesome!…read moreI'm not a big thrifter per se, but my kids are and, with them, I've been to a ton of thrift shops in OR, WA and in my new hometown of Vancouver, BC. This Goodwill is IMO the gold standard of thrift shops. I've visited here a few times just to donate bags of clothes that no longer fit me, but until recently, I've never shopped around in here. But on my last visit when donating bags, the lady who helped me suggested I "shop around", so I decided to have a look-see, if only to write a Yelp review. But man oh man, I was blown away by this place! Here's why: -it's huge, immaculate, incredibly well-laid out, with clear and large signage suspended from the ceilings, so at a glance you can see where every department is located (i.e., womens, mens, kids, household, toys, etc). -the people who work here are incredibly friendly and helpful. Even when I was bringing in my bags to donate, the woman at the front cash came over immediately to help me put these big bags in their donation bin at the front of the store. I didn't ask her to help me, and I wasn't really struggling, but boy, it was nice to get the assistance. (Note: there is a donation area at the rear of the store but I drove around this complex of stores and couldn't find the rear donation area. So I brought my bags of clothes into the store via the front door). -the store is laid out like a real store/boutique with display tables and mannequins in the front (when I visited, since is was early June, they had a summer theme going, with mannequins in swimsuits and beach attire, displaying summery accessories, and colorful beach towels on tables, etc). -there are a bunch of fitting rooms here and they are large and immaculate. -the clothing sections were the most organized I have ever seen, hands down, anywhere. I checked out the women's section for a long time. There were long areas labelled "activewear", "short-sleeved tops", "long-sleeved tops", "capris", "jeans", "pants", "sweaters", "jackets", "swimwear". Within each section, the clothes were arranged by size (small, medium, large). (Note: there is a whole 'nother large section just for plus size women). And THEN, within each section organized by size, all the clothes were arranged by color (all the whites, then yellows, then oranges, then reds, etc., etc). I have not seen such attention to detail in organizing clothes in a thrift store anywhere -Now I have to mention the clothing itself, as this was another feature of the store that blew me away. Not only was the selection of clothing in each section huge and meticulously organized, but the clothing itself was bloody AMAZING. Everything looked new. I kid you not. Many items still had original tags on them but those items that didn't still looked new. I looked through everything (I was there a LONG time). I didn't see one item that had an errant thread or a missing button or a defective zipper or a rip or tear or stain. Nothing had a weird, musky smell (some stuff from thrift stores have a musky smell. I know you know what I'm talking about). Every single item was in pristine condition. And I am no fashionita but even I recognized SO many big, high-end brand names: Nicole Miller, Ann Taylor, Patagonia, Columbia, Michael Kors, Guess, True Religion, Brandy Melville, Madewell....... So many more, I can't remember. Oh, Adidas, Nike, Puma, Athletica..... You get the idea. High quality, brand names, all in pristine condition. -I see some people complaining about pricing here. Well, compared to so many thrift stores, this Goodwill's pricing is freaking amazing! Tops are in the $3.99-5.99 range (keep in mind, some are totally new, the rest look totally new, and are in perfect condition). Jackets were $7.99-24.99. I got a bunch of tops and 2 light-weight jackets and a designer sweatshirt for under $40. C'mon, you can't beat that! And keep in mind, Goodwill isn't a for-profit organization. The money they get goes to their mission (check out their website for info on this wonderful organization and to learn how it helps people get back on their feet, in communities across the US). I really have a hard time understanding how reviewers here are complaining about the prices of items here. A new Puma work-out tank top, NEW, for $2.99? C'mon! (NOTE: every Wednesday they give an extra 20% discount to military people and folks over 62 years old. Hey, that's me! Bonus!). The household/linens area isn't large and many shelves were empty but the lady at the cash told me they'd be remodeling this area soon. So stay tuned! This is a wonderful store, and I am adding it to my "must go-to" list of places whenever I visit B'Ham.

I'm sure rents have gone up and Goodwill is feeling the pinch like a lot of businesses/not for profits these days but when your closest competition is Value Village and your prices match or exceed VV's, that's a red flag to me. Our most recent visit was definitely our most disappointing one. I found a number of interesting looking games, two of which had multiple price stickers. These two were both card games and when I brought these to the attention of an employee I was told that the higher of the marked prices were the most recent. Each of those card games was priced at $10, which to me was ludicrous. On the other hand, large boxed games like Monopoly were less than that. Clothing was also more expensive than I'm used to in this shop and so I found very little of interest. The selection and quality varies widely as you might expect, so you never know what you're going to find. Plenty of parking out front and the staff were friendly enough.

I shop at Value Village somewhat frequently and I would just like to comment that the return policy…read morethey have in place for not offering dressing rooms and listing their second hand items at the rate they do, seems very unreasonable to me. The only "return" option is actually a strict exchange (no credit issued) that needs to either meet or exceed the amount of original purchase within 14 days. Lets say I buy 4 pairs of pants that I cannot try on in store, at $12.99 a piece and none of them fit, thats $52 worth of thrift store merchandise that I need to purchase, in order to return the used pants that i had no option to try on before buying. This policy also leads to people trying on clothes in the aisle because of course they would.. and ultimately this creates an unprofessional environment and personally I feel disrespected as a customer. I hope Value Village considers restoring the dignity of their customers by either offering a dressing room or changing their return policy in the future. Thanks.

Value Village will not let people bring in any ESA animals, they will only let you bring in service…read moredogs. So until they realize that and ESA animal is just as important as a service dog, this review will stay here and I will not support any store that will not let am ESA support animal inside their store...I had an emotional breakdown inside there after they told me I had to take my animals out of there. This is highly unacceptable and truly wrong. ALL SUPPORT DOGS ARE EQUAL! SOME ARE EVEN MORE IMPORTANT THAN OTHERS!! SHAME ON YOU VALUE VILLAGE!! CHANGE YOUR STATUS AND BE FOR THE PEOPLE!!

The employees were professional and always good customer service with a smile. You could tell Sage took pride in her stores and actually interviewed her employees before hiring them. At that time Labels got a 5-star review from me... Under new ownership, there has been a shift in employee base. Yesterday my mother-in-law and I experienced TERRIBLE customer service from an employee. She seemed bothered that she had to check us out. No small talk or smile. I asked her a simple question, and it must have been out of her "script" because I got a long blank stare and then a condescending tone. A couple of other times shopping there the customer service was "lackluster" at best but not outright rude like this one incident. Other than this one bad experience I will come back. The good outweigh the bad.

Just a few things in my experience... Sage, the owner is an absolute professional and I have been consigning with her for years at different locations. The James street and NW store seem to be inconsistent with each other as far as what they will accept. If one location does not take something, I go to the other store and they accept it. So, it may depend whose working or the particular needs of the store at a given time. This is my biggest issue with them is the consistency. Their acceptance seems to, at times depend on who is working and I rarely see the same gals behind the counter. They are always pleasant and don't make me feel rushed though. I like that they donate clothes, so you know if Labels does not accept them they will end up in a good home :-) I have purchased a few books here (bran new) but rarely anything else. I searched for jeans several times and can't find my size. Also, it's hard to get to clothes because most of them are jam- packed on the racks with little room to freely move about the store. They accept and move an insane amount of merchandise, which is great for consignors but doesn't lend to to a very pleasant shopping experience. Payments are always prompt and hassle free. Some places require you to have a minimum amount in your account. Not the case here, just present your ID and you're good to go!

Armani dress (polyester shift), new with tags, original price $187 - earnings $12.60. LOL!! Club Monaco quilted jacket (like new condition) - earnings $9.20. La Vie En Rose satin romper, new with tags, original price $54 - earnings $4.40. *The above amounts are only if I use the earnings in store as credit; they get reduced by about 50% if I request a cash payout. The staff was friendly and the store is tidy and well merchandised, I am just providing an honest review for sellers who want to get higher earnings on quality clothing resales.
