Unfortunately, my recent experience trying to obtain my own contact-lens prescription confirmed that decision. I called only to learn the brand and prescription information for the contacts I previously wore. After verifying my identity and account information, the employee refused to provide it over the phone and said I had to register for their patient portal. I explained that I intentionally do not use their portal and requested the prescription by email instead. The manager then became argumentative, insisted I was wrong, and claimed HIPAA requires the email to be encrypted. That is not accurate. HHS explicitly states that patients may request their health information by unencrypted email after being warned of and accepting the security risk. The FTC also states that an eye-care provider cannot use HIPAA as a barrier to electronically providing a prescription. I would have gladly verified my identity, signed a request, or acknowledged the risks of ordinary email. Instead, management spoke to me condescendingly, gave me inaccurate information about my legal rights, and attempted to force me into a portal I never agreed to use. I will not return and will be filing complaints with the appropriate agencies regarding access to my prescription.

They said that because she signed in they went ahead and charged her. They refused to give out the full prescription and then blamed the mistake in the charge on AARP. I called to straighten this out and they hung up on me. When I called back they handed the phone to someone else. If you DON'T understand what AARP has you listed for, you shouldn't just randomly charge someone more because they don't understand the mistake and you aren't able to explain it correctly. In addition, they didn't even provide the full prescription. Let's recap - you confirmed $55 on the phone, charged $75 and then don't even provide the full prescription? Gotta love a place that takes advantage of the elderly. I wear glasses and I'll be taking my business elsewhere. Update: AARP is sending a refund for the amount overcharged because this establishment didn't honor the pricing they must have agreed to in order to be added to the list of providers.

He was so thorough and even though he had people waiting, he took the time to speak to me and explain everything to me. That really meant a lot to me. I felt like he really cared. Not easy to find doctors like that anymore. From there I went to look at frames and get pricing on lenses. I spoke to Omar. He also spent the time to explain my options and asked what type of lenses and if I needed anti glare etc. He was so nice and so helpful. They had a great selection of frames starting at $9 for frames and going into designer frames. My only slight complaint had nothing to do with the doctor or employees. The doctor (optometrist) and vision center are a ways away and I passed up the optometrist because all I could see was a sign at the distance that said VISION so that is where I headed. I had no need to need to look for anything else. It would have been nice if they were next to each other or at least a little closer together rather than running back and forth. But Omar was kind enought to physically walk me over to the door of the doctor to make sure I found it. It only had a small sign by the door that said optometrist. Not sure if its the cheapest place around but if having a doctor that cares and having good service is important to you, than its well worth the little extra you may have to pay.
