Called this company to ask about a car part that had been inspected earlier this week, was greeted and helped by a man. Guy said he remembered what part it was, so I reply "Ok, I'm going to go buy the part." To which he then rudely responds "WHY YOU GONNA GO BUY IT?!" with an angry tone. I say calmly, because it's cheaper. He then gets angrier, and goes "YOU DON'T WANT THE WARRANTY?" A clear tactic to try to get me to buy their parts and labor; "You won't get a warranty", I respond angrily now, "Let me do my research, and don't try to con me with your scare tactics." He was already upset, so then he replies, "THAT'S OK GO GET YOUR PARTS AND DO BUISNESS ELSEWHERE." I am going somewhere else, and not getting chewed for making my own decisions. I had owned two Volvos before (like 10 - 20 years ago) and after that I drove other car which is different than Volvo, and now I went back to Volvo again mainly because I know I can take my car to Value Auto with confidence after my factory maintenance plan expires. They are honest, reasonable and reliable. This place deserves 50 stars, because Tom & Toby are killin the game as far as cheap repairs for my Volvo goes. Put it this way, I'm a Corona resident who drives out to Costa Mesa just for the good mechanic work. That is hard to find! I got a good thing goin here... These dudes are the best, always can count on them to give me the straight, honest truth 100% about what is going on with my automobile. I have serviced 2 Volvos there, one was my first car ('92 940 Wagon) & the latter, my '95 930 Turbo Wagon. Both very g-rides. Tom is trustworthy & knowledgeable and always fairly educational as far as giving me tips & tricks for my first car. Showing me small repairs I can make myself, preventing damages, etc. Cool guy. ***One thing I will say, this place can be tough to get a hold of! Their prices cannot be beat, & as a result buisness is always nuts! If you need your car serviced asap, then you've got to show up when they open. Many times cars will be lined up within 20min, and then you may be out of luck. But never fear! The wait will be worth it, and the overall bill is always low. Always. Like, seriously. I have never been so appalled by a place of business that even though I almost never write reviews, I had to share my experience with others. I took my Volvo here because the previous owner recommended it to us, she had taken the car we were purchasing from her here for years. I was turned off by Tom (the owner) when I spoke to him on the phone, because he seemed very disinterested in my business, but I wanted to give it a shot because he came recommended. I was 7 months pregnant at the time and the car started to squeak really loudly when I used the breaks, I was worried for the safety of myself and my 18-month old daughter which I explained to him. After looking at the car, Tom assured me that the break pads were at 50% still and that was not the reason they were squeaking, and explained to me that it wasn't a big deal that they were squeaking and assured me that it was safe to drive my car. He applied an anti-squeak to the pads and changed my oil and called me to tell me my car was ready. When I arrived an hour later to pick up my car, it was not there and neither was Tom. Another guy at the shop told me that Tom had taken my car out to go get lunch! WHAT??!!!!! Are you kidding me? I was really confused and angry. When my car pulled up, Tom got out and walked right by me without saying anything. I asked "excuse me - how is the car driving?" he glanced up at me and said "oh, it drives fine". I was unsure how to react so I just got in the car to drive home with the horrible smell of fast food in it. I told my husband, just to be sure I wasn't being unreasonable by thinking that was wrong, and he agreed that it was really wrong and that we would never go back there. Well, to make matters worse. 3 days later my Low Oil Level light went on and the breaks started squeaking again! I called Tom at Value Auto Service right away to ask him why this would happen after he just serviced it? No call back. I tried again the next day, leaving another message, and no call back. Finally on the 3rd day he called me back and acted like he wasn't even the one who changed my oil, he told me that maybe his guys would have known how much oil to put in, so there wasn't a chance they didn't fill it up enough, that my indicator light must be broken. He didn't have much to say about the break pads either and just told me to bring the car back. Well, I had no interest in taking my car back to him, so I called the Volvo dealership in Orange County and made an appointment there. The dealership found a leak in my oil line and told me that the front break pads and rotors were at 0%!!!! They told me they could not believe someone could look at these and think there was still 50% left on them. The back break pads were still at 50%, but the front ones were completely gone. They told me it was a good thing I had them do something now because it was actually pretty dangerous for me to drive around with break pads and rotors at 0%. They put in new ones and the squeaking went away completely, the car felt completely different to drive after. I felt so sick to know that Auto Value Service had assured me that it was safe to drive my car when it wasn't at all. Especially when they knew that I was pregnant and with a small child. I can't even understand what they did with my car besides drive it to pick up Jack-in-the-Box! I hope my review will keep others from trusting this terrible business, DO NOT take your car here!!! read more

Tom and his guys are SERIOUSLY. THE. BEST! My friend recommended this shop and I will never look back! Honest and affordable. Here's how you know you have a great mechanic: My car was running high and hot and just in general "off". Tom said worse case scenario, it could be the radiator... or a couple other things. He tried all the smaller and less expensive fixes first to be sure. I think this is a sign of a great mechanic. So many others would have me drop tons of $$$ and then later to find out, it's only a sensor. Tom works the other way... let's try all the little stuff and then if it's still off we know it's the big fix. Bottom line... I didn't need a new radiator and he saved me a ton of $$$. The only problem is sometimes he's SUPER busy and you have to come back! It's because anyone around who has a Volvo brings it here!!! And if you are a Volvo driver you should too! I don't have that car anymore, but I did buy a newer Volvo...partly because I knew I had a great mechanic who would take care of me! And the people I sold my older model to, I gave them his card with the highest recommendations! read more

Tom and his crew Toby and Todd are friendly, honest and know what they are doing! Yes, when trying to call the shop they don't always answer the phone, but they do not have a receptionist to field calls. Just leave a message and they will get back to you. They are always busy and each time I've visited this shop I've always been surprised how many cars that they have to fix. What's great is they can fix it and their price is affordable. My wife and I have been bringing our older Volvos here for over a year now and this place is the real deal! Tom provides good honest service at a price that can't be beat. I would recommend just stopping by instead of calling to make an appointment (They don't have a receptionist to answer the phone...low overhead = cheaper prices for their customers!). But even though they have a small crew of guys, Tom still offered to come pick me up at work during my lunch break so that I could get my car. He truly is a good man who does great work. read more

I stopped by one day after work, they were closing up but asked if I could make an appointment so Tom took his time to ask me my needs and said they are really busy but knew I needed my work done ASAP so he said He would do it first thing in the morning. Older Volvos are tricky to repair and finding a group of mechanics who knows them this well is hard to do. They are only here. (I've been through the general mechanic routine of multi repairs cause they are clueless about the Volvo quirks.) They are always swamped because they are the best and most reasonable too. If you have an urgent problem they will do their best to squish you in somewhere. It is best to stop by and ask what day is best in the next week or after for regular service. The phone is always full of messages. I went in the other day got there before opening. First thing they began the hustle bustle not a moment wasted. listening to a phone full of messages and turned repairs out fast and took in my emergency repair too. Was referred to Tom by a friend and I am happy to never have to visit a dealer again. Amazing value - my friend told me if I want free coffee/wifi/flatscreen then pay double at the dealer. Took car in for a major knocking sound. They fixed the problem, but not the source of the problem. Long story short I'm taking it some where else to get fixed properly. New mechanic said engine was not put back together correctly. Now spending double money to fix what should have been fixed at Value Auto. They seem too busy to do a good, thorough job; and looks like they specialize only in older model Volvos. read more
