Haven't been to Michael's since before the COVID fiasco. First time here since 2019,one noticeable difference, they now have self-checkout, and no bags to place your items purchased. Time have changed that every store I go to now has self-checkout and no bags, unless you pay extra for it. Overall, even with empty shelves, had a nice time shopping here going through all the aisle that was worth my time and to buy things.

Here's the long version: I called the shop because I had two partially completed knitted projects I needed advice on. Elise, the owner, was friendly and helpful. I had decided to visit because I was also interested in the button selection for another ongoing project. The shop has two floors. Apparently the person who owns Tarrytown Music Hall is her landlord. The lower floor is where the cash register and yarn shelves are (on left), on the right is more yarn, to the center back is where the classes are held, even further back towards the right are stairs leading up to the second floor. The second floor has some yarn and two seating areas where one can knit and peruse through fashion books or magazines. She has a good selection of yarn ranging from classic solids, handspun, art yarns, mohair, and varying weights of each. There was a basket of mini skeins too. Some of the brands I saw were Blue Sky, Rowan, Manos del Uruguay, Berrocco, and many more. I arrived at a very busy time but she was still friendly and attentive towards all her customers including me. I bought several items from her including yarn, a book, a tac pin, a pattern stand, and buttons. I'm happy with my purchases and wish I resided closer to Tarrytown. It's a cute, cozy store where I genuinely felt welcomed. A few weeks after I placed an order over the phone for several skeins I needed to complete a wrap. Elise came through for me. The skeins arrived less than a week and she notified me that they were ready for pick up at my convenience. I was impressed because I've encountered so many people who don't follow through with their promises- either forgetting to place the order for me or forgetting to call me that my order is ready for pick up. My second face-to-face encounter was just as pleasant as the first though she was busy this day as well. I had read some previous reviews and felt they were unfair to the owner. While she did stay seated at the cash register the entire time I was there (about 35-45 minutes), she did offer her help to me a few times and not in a pushy way. At the time, she and an instructor were the only staff there. The instructor was busy overseeing her students' work. I didn't mind that she didn't get up to help me and I also believe that she may have mobility issues? She was also wearing what looked to be compression fingerless gloves. I had overheard that she was experiencing shoulder problems. Please have some compassion before leaving potentially unfair comments.

I have never experienced any sales associate with as much patience as A.K. and Jackie. I visited the store twice within two weeks of traveling from CT. There were products I could not find and there was Jackie. I had trouble with the laminator and messed up a bunch of my material, at no fault to the machine or associates, but here was A.K. to my rescue. With such grace, A.K. took over 20 minutes to remove laminating plastic from my items so that I could laminate them again. There are several choices teachers can choose to shop. My number only choice is at this Lakeshore location in Scarsdale, NY.
