While traveling, I was caught in a sudden deluge rainstorm. Visibility was instantly brought to zero. A tree 8 feet up a bank on the roadside fell and struck our car while we were in motion. The windshield and sunroof were shattered, and the roof peeled back like a tin can. Serious injuries resulted. The NYS Police notified Val-U auto to remove the car. Incident occurred Thursday afternoon. By Friday 1200 noon, I called Val-U Auto to pay the fees and remove the car from lot (As Stated I am traveling and not from the area. Vehicle has Liability Insurance only) Dispatcher stated she would call me in an hour with price and vehicle location. 2 hrs later I followed up with another call. Dispatcher stated the owner had not told her the price yet. Keep in mind 5:00pm is closing time, And they are not open on weekends. I called again about an hour later, reminding the dispatcher that I wanted to remove the car today because i am traveling and did not want to incur fees and would not be i. town on Monday Morning when they opened again. Dispatcher hung up on me. I notified Geico who called the dispatcher but also was unable to get a price. This company clearly has an MO of holding your car, license plates, and time ransome. They clearly had no intention of releasing the vehicle until they could squeeze every last storage dollar they could. This company should not be placed in a position of public trust and utilized by the NYS Police. I will need to travel 250 miles back to Owego on Monday. I will be notifying Christoper Friend, Tom O'Mara, Peter Oberacker, in addition to my local NYS Rep., and Tioga county Rotation Tow list coordinator. My next stop after this review is the BBB. As a retired police officer, I can say that we would never allow this type of behavior from the Tow Companies on our list. I will be making the Major at NYSP Troop C aware of the occurrence also. Absolutely awful. They said they would be there in 45 minutes but it took them two hours and the driver copped an attitude with me as soon as he got there (he didn't like that I had a bicycle triple a membership) and then proceeded to try to SCAM me out of a hundred dollars even though the tow was 100% covered by AAA. He then left me stranded because he was butthurt that I didn't fall for his scam AND on top of all that, when I called to speak to the owner, Matt Karpal, he was incredibly rude and actually told me he straight up didn't care that his driver tried to scam me and proceeded to insult my family and my sexuality when I called out the fact that he didn't care they tried to scam me. I have also made the BBB aware of all this and they will be investigating the whole situation very thoroughly. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! They are very unprofessional, discourteous, and downright rude. I was assigned this towing company for road side assistance through my warranty service. I will definitely insist that a different company is used next time. They were assigned with towing my car from my home to the dealership. First off, they came 2.5 hours later than they said they would. When I called the dispatcher, he was pretty unprofessional and not courteous at all. Must have been working from his home or something, because all I kept hearing was loud children in the background. When the driver finally showed up, he was nice enough, but I did notice a faint smell of weed, which should've been a big red flag, but I dismissed it because I felt like I had no choice and this point. He loaded the car up on his truck and was off to the dealer soon enough. My appointment at the dealer was not for several days, but they suggested getting the car in ASAP in the hope they'd be able to look at it sooner. So a few days later, I called to see if by chance they had looked at my car already, but they had no record of it ever showing up there! They actually didn't find it till the next day after visually searching through their lot of almost 1000 cars. Turns out the tow truck driver left it in some remote corner of their property, no where near the service center, with the doors unlocked and the keys still inside the car in full view so anybody could have stolen it. He never even left any paperwork or even the keys in their lock box. Just dumped the car and left. When I called Valu Towing (what a joke that name is) about this, the woman on the phone seemed very unconcerned. Right away she accused me of not paying for the tow, and said that my car was impounded because of this. I'm not sure what kind of crap she was trying to pull, because I already new by this time that I paid for the service and had my credit card statement to prove it, and the dealership had already did a preliminary service on the car by this point. Then when that didn't work, she said that they had absolutely no obligation to see that the keys are put in the lock box and make sure the car is secure. The tow company was the one there with the car! I was not. Who else besides the tow truck driver is responsible for that? Absolutely ludicrous and unacceptable! The woman on the phone from Valu Towing kept trying to justify this ridiculous and unprofessional practice. She actually seemed like a small snot nosed child who was caught doing something wrong and right away tried to pass the blame anywhere else. Actually saying at one that the dealership was at fault for everything, even though they had no idea the car was there. The way she handled this phone call really made her seem ill informed and downright ignorant. She also gave off the impression that she not only hated her job, but her life in general, and most likely hated herself as well. She ended the phone call by saying I didn't have to use their service anymore and hung up the phone. Such a pathetic display of just how incompetent she was, and clearly demonstrated how Valu Towing runs its business. I wish there was a way to post audio here as the whole conversation was recorded by me. But meanwhile, I know exactly what I will be doing with that audio and Valu Towing will definitely hearing more on this whether they realize it or not. Again, DO NOT use this company. Through my son's insurance when he needed roadside assistance they contacted this company. It all started at 8 30pm. At 11 30 he still had no help but the ap kept saying 5 minutes. I relieved him at 11 30 pm because he had to go to work. I waited another hour once again checking the ap and found out they were 85 minutes away. I called another company and within a half an hour I was on my way. My son was charged for services he never received but was told they did take care of it. If I could give them a no star review I would. Had a flat tire yesterday and this is who my insurance co. called for road side assistance. After over 5 hours in 96 degree heat and so many attempts to reach them (all I got was elevator music when I called their number) they canceled and I had to wait for another company to come (which was there in 11 minutes). If your insurance co. chooses them for your roadside assistance tell them no. I'm guessing insurance cos use them because they are the cheapest. This is the worst for locksmith services. The ETA's provided by the customer service is never correct and I had to wait from 8:30 (sat) -12:45am (sun). After rebooking for 8am (sun), they didn't come until 9:45am. PLEASE book at other places! The customer service agent keep delaying the ETA of the locksmith and is very rude. After 2 calls (after waiting for 2.5 hrs), they said the locksmith will call me and the locksmith never did. By 12:40am I had to find a place to stay for the night, so I have wasted 3-4 hrs of just waiting for nothing. I rather they just tell me straight up that the locksmith won't be available until the next morning so I can make appropriate accommodations earlier. This is the worst service experience of my life and I never really write reviews, but I think that you guys should know this so you don't have to go through what I did. Felt it necessary to make it known that one of the drivers forced me off the road yesterday in the small town of Trumansburg when he "didn't see" me driving down Main street, even though my low beams and fog lights were on. The dispatcher who I spoke with to complain thought it was funny and laughed and laughed when telling me he saw the tape from the guys truck and the guy said he just "zoned out." This driver could have not only caused an accident, but hurt myself, my passenger, other drivers and even pedestrians as it's such a small well traveled area. Well done val-U auto. read more

Moments after buying a vehicle from them was in a terrible break failure. Sold with bad rotor loose and no abs sensor. (To this day there is still "one ducked taped and hanging from my vehicle. Was mocked and mistreated buy the owner son or co owner. Definitely tried to make it seem as of it was my fault even though I was with my 10 year old son? After talking to the original owner Joe. He myself and Grandfather came to an agreement to get the truck up and running and the same as I purchased it. Rather then deal with the better business beru and New York state attorney general A firm handshake and money was taken. To this date the vehicle still has a miss fire on cylinder 4. A problem that's been documented since a week after I got the truck back from them.. after a few attempts of them lazily trying to fix it. It still the same misfire and same code and they refuse to give and information on work done to the vehicle at all. My experience with Dave at Val-U Towing was one of those that restores your faith in humanity! My bike tire stopped holding air while I was on a long road trip away from home. My insurance company sent me Dave from Val-U Towing - who showed up WAY faster than the estimated time, at 11pm at night (and on about hour 14 of his work day) and instead of doing just the required job (taking me about 4 miles down the road to a closed bike shop, after which I would have had to make my way to a motel), he actually diagnosed the problem, (which was just the tire valve core) and found a friend with a home garage who had the part and tool available - and shortly after midnight I was back on the road! What could have been an expensive 24 hour delay turned into a mere 2 hour pit stop. He also secured the bike on the tow truck quickly and safely - and was friendly and professional through the whole interaction. read more

I am hesitant to use the words elder abuse but when my parents needed to have their car towed after an accident they refused to tow it 2 miles to the repair shop but instead towed it to their lot and wouldn't release it until they paid over $1500 for a tow less than 2 miles. Today June 2, 2022 the first time my Insurance company contacted Valu Auto at 6am to give me a jumpstart, Valu Auto stated they were going to be at my house in 2 hours for the jumpstart. At 8:05am I called Valu auto to find out if the technician was close to my house and the lady who answered Valu auto phone stated that the technician was still about 30minutes away. She did not apologize for the inconvenience. I asked why the technician was late and she said the technician was stuck at another place. I told her that is not good service and they should have called me to let me know there was a delay. She said she understood then HUNG UP the phone on me. Then I called my insurance and informed the agent that Valu auto hung up on me for expressing my disappointment with them not letting me know there was going to be a longer wait. My insurance agent told me I would be put on hold and she will call Valu auto to get an exact ETA. The agent returned on the phone after 15mins to inform me that the lady from Valu auto claimed there was no order for jumpstart for me. That's because the lady from Valu Auto canceled it after I had called her. This is not customer service. HOW DOES A HORRIBLE COMPANY LIKE Valu auto get an award? There are some other bad reviews on Google for this company prior to them getting this award and some from few months ago. Awarding a bad company an award for being excellent when in fact Valu auto is not excellent. Chris Sutton from Chris Sutton towing company came in 15 minutes after he was called and jumpstarted my car. Valu auto is a useless company. Don't waste your time and money on Valu auto unless you want to be mistreated. Valu auto are cowards. Instead of just owning up to their mistake and apologize, the company pretends to not have an order for a jumpstart. It turned from "he is about 30 minutes away" to "we don't have an order for jumpstart" after I complained to Valu auto. Valu auto canceled my order after I called at 8:05am and lied. I kept getting texts from my insurance company (who contracts with Val-U Auto) that someone will be here in "90-120 minutes", the. "30 minutes", then "10 minutes", and finally "5 minutes". Couple years ago when I had my truck towed by them after the clutch blew in it there faulty equipment gave out and my truck rolled off the flat bed uncontrolled slammed in to a trailer that was behind it and it went through my fence. The tongue of the trailer went in between my hitch and bumper to the point we had to block the trailer and use a winch to separate them. After getting pictures of my bent bumper, the ruined trailer tongue and fence I called the owner and he got mad with me said hed call the driver and I never heard another word from them on the matter and had to repair everything his faulty equipment destroyed out of pocket read more

So this company has (I guess) a contract with USAA with roadside assistance. We started a claim at 0630 hrs in the morning for a lock out of a vehicle. My daughter always locks her car (great habit) but this time it bit her in the arse. The situation: She is traveling to N. Carolina from Northern NY and she's running low on gas, so she pulls off of I-81 and goes to a gas station to fill up. Apparently, she and her friend get out of vehicle and she locks it (WTH), why??? That's not even the worse part, both phones are in the vehicle and the gas station doesn't open up until 1000 hrs (another WTH). So she calls Dad using her watch. Dad uses USAA app (easy peasy right) to request assistance at 0630 to help his daughter. After waiting 30 minutes for USAA to respond, he calls. This gets them moving and they call Valu Auto. So lets say its about 0710 by now at the latest. After a few calls to USAA and a couple of calls to Value Towing finding out why this roadside assistance is taking so long, my daughter is finally on her way to her destination at 1020. This is piss poor service on both parts but especially Valu Auto and I would think if you are a company who has a bid to do business for a bigger corporation that you need to have people who answer your 24hr service line when it rings and the other people who are going out to do the roadside assistance to wake up when their are called to provide that "assistance" to a customer. I mean, you are getting paid a fee for doing a job even if you do it piss poor. I am just hoping that USAA cuts ties with this company because there is no reason why my daughter sat around so long for roadside assistance. 3 hours is just unacceptable. read more

DO NOT buy a vehicle from these people! We did, and have been paying for it ever since, literally. The vehicle we bought 2 + years ago was a 2008, we had nothing but problems from the start, on top of that, when we paid them for the vehicle in an amount of $5,000.00+, as soon as the check cleared the bank, which they cashed immediately, we got nothing but rudeness and hostility from these people. And getting them to make the repairs they agreed on before we purchased the car was a battle. Approximately 1 month or less after getting the car, it was back to them for $1,000.00 worth of repairs that we had to pay for. Since then we have put almost $3,000.00 into it, and now we just found out the motor has seized up, so now we are going to have to put another $4,000.00 into it to get it back on the road.
