Barcelona has a lot of terrific restaurants and for us, this was right up at the top of our list. We found Valmas when we happened to walk by on the street, thought it looked good, and decided to stop by for dinner that night. We were so glad we did that we came back again a few nights later.
There is no menu here. The chef goes to the market every morning, picks out what looks good, and serves that in a series of courses. You can specify your number of courses at the start of the meal or just keep telling them to bring out additional plates until you're full. Each course costs 10 euros per plate. We split each plate among three of us and that worked out great.
Over the course of two meals there we had about 14 courses. Nearly all were terrific and none were bad. Everything was wonderfully prepared and each course clearly stood apart from the others.
Making it that much more impressive was that we had a ton of allergies in our group (dairy, soy, eggs, sesame) and they asked us at the start of the meal about allergies and handled all of them just fine, without any complaint. In my experience most nice restaurants need advance notice or serve a very compromised meal if you don't tell them about allergies until you arrive. Here, they had no concerns and adapted as needed, and everything turned out great.
We're very excited about returning here the next time we're in Barcelona. read more
