Weirdest hotel ever! I hear they are going to be renovating. There are a few buildings that are attached with halls and stairs, etc. It was like a maze, and we all agreed it felt very trippy. I'll have to load my shining-esque photo. In that sense, it was really cool. The pool was locked, even though there was a sign on the door saying it was open, but cold and feel free to jump in for an invigorating swim. Uh. Thanks- How 'bout just fix your pool? kthanx. We had a hallway to ourselves, so we were lucky enough to be pretty loud (there was a big group of us). Nobody cared. If there was a rating lower than 1 star I would go there. We had to switch rooms 3 times. Room one already had some one in it, room two had no TV and had water running out the ceiling, and room three was the "best" room they had to offer. It was sketchy at best. We found out later that they found a dead body at the hotel just weeks before our stay. The one bright side was the front desk help. I have stayed at this hotel for close to a year and while I got used to the police showing up every other day and all the trappings of a seedy hotel, I justified it because covid has hurt me hard financially. Some money was taken out of my account by a company that originally said they would defer. Long story short, they knocked on my door the day after my payment was due. They said there is only a 2 day grace period even though it had only been one day, I had to be out by 11. Even though I would have the full amount in a couple of days. Forget empathy, that is just bad business practice. I had been a steady source of income and because something unforeseen happened they couldn't wait a couple of days. If you expect hospitality from the place you stay, go far away from here. read more

Booked this room on a cross country drive through the hotel tonight app and I was shocked at what I found. It was my first time using the app and my friends have had great things to say about it so I thought I would give it a shot. This hotel is awful. My room smelled of cigarette smoke so bad I was getting a headache. This place is listed as non smoking but it smelled like they decided last week to go non smoking. The hallways are confusing and no one explained or showed me where my room was. Everything felt old and my bed looked so bad I didn't want to lay in it. I gave serious thought to sleeping in the chair instead. The pillows are old and lumpy. I was on the first floor and had no curtains. None. Anyone could peek right in. To say this is the worst room I've stayed in is not an exaggeration. I tweeted to hotel tonight in regards to the room and to their credit they called the hotel and me, credited me $50 and will be sending their area manager to review the hotel. So they get 5 stars! read more

Where do I start. We have been waiting to get our security deposit back since August 11, 2019. Along with 3 other actors that we all stayed 4-nights. That is $800 total that is owed to us. I have called at least 4 times and told every time that the check would be sent. A friend of mine has gone in twice for me since I live in Omaha and he has been told the check would be sent out. Now, what I have noticed on any of the reviews that address money issues, the owner has a response that they put the blame on the customers. So I will address this before it happens. I DO have copies of all 4 of our receipts. I stayed in room #106, the other actors were in rooms #104, #242, & #244. Our dates were August 8th-11th. I will also say that we have 2-separate recorded conversations that the manager Lorna admitted that we are due back the deposits. This is the first of our social media blasts. May want to reconsider things and return our deposits. read more

Do. Not. Book. Here. The pictures on their website and other travel websites are seriously misleading. I even called to ask if it looked like the pictures online. Upon arriving we walked into the room, took one look around and decided we were staying elsewhere. I didn't even care if they charged me for the first night, I was not staying here. Stains on the mattresses, half roll of toilet paper in the bathroom, a piece of tissue stuck in the peephole in the door. I felt dirty just being in the room. We weren't there ten minutes before canceling and leaving. We booked at prairie meadows through hotels tonight app and that hotel was perfect. If you're looking for a nice place to stay I don't recommend the valley west inn!!!! read more

Valley West Inn, 3535 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines, IA They LIED to us one night in August 2019, and claimed that going to a 3rd floor room required NO STAIRS! WRONG! Elevator only goes up half-way between floors 2 & 3. Shame on them - lying to a handicapped person with bad arthritis & a Handicap Parking sticker, who also injured a knee the day before & could barely walk. Painfully limped back to lobby and asked for a refund because I could not make it up all those stairs AND husband said room looked BAD. Outer door not secure; parking lot very dark. No one at front desk! Finally she came back after we waited 10 minutes & then noticed the phone # posted & called her. Desk Clerk said she had no power to refund money & she called Manager to come over, so another 15 minutes wasted. Manager seemed high on alcohol or drugs & shook her finger in our faces, so we departed. Verbal & written requests to Owners to refund our money have gone unanswered, as of 9/21/2019. Worst hotel I've ever had an experience at. Pool was freezing cold and no towels poolside whatsoever. We asked a staff member for a few and he left and did not return.... The elevator quit working while we were between floors... Then we were called and checked in on once in our room because the room below us had water coming out of their ceiling.... But wasn't coming from our room. I slept in fear we would fall through the floor due to a water pipe break. Also, all halls and our room smelled of urine/ smoke. Not pleased at all. This is not the best hotel I've ever been in, but for the price, I would say it was pretty good. Con: not a very pleasant smell in the lobby. I couldn't quite determine if it was a cleaning agent or cooking smells from the kitchen. However, the hallway to our room smelled great. Con: The room smelled slightly musty and the carpet felt musty under my feet. Pro: the price - $88.00 for the night. All other hotels seemed to be $99 on the low end. Pro: the staff - very nice and efficient Pro: the beds - the most comfortable hotels beds in a room under $100.00 I only stayed for one night on a cross country trip so a longer stay might not be as pleasant, but for what I needed it for it was great. read more

My friend checked in at 4pm and was hit on by the person running the front desk who she stated was wearing nothing discerning himself from a homeless person other than a few Mardi Gras necklaces. Started in September 2018 first room. heater didn't properly work I had to keep hitting the breaker switch during the month of dec. After having many days and night of being cold they offered us to move rooms and we agreed to finally move, about a week after Christmas the GM room caught fire rumor has it she had a blanket wrap around her heater because there where spaces around it and the cold air was coming thro. Month feb 1 my truck was towed with no reason. Feb 2 I was sitting in my room and heard the GM yelling at another tenant because he told her she should tow it so she did just that. It was registered up-to-date running and working. Feb 3 came home and water puddle at my door GM come to the door and told me I needed to move rooms I asked why and she put her hand in my face said never mind and walked away. The next day I get off and step in the door and see the GM and asked about my truck and she started yelling at me telling me to sew the owners cause she didn't care. End result call the police and ask them to escort us off the property I just paid 2 days ago I didn't have and money they wouldn't give me my refund back. Tried to find the owners but no luck they won't give me my deposit and they they towed both my cars read more

DO NOT STAY HERE - WORST HOTEL EXPERIENCE EVER !!!! Hotel is unsafe and unsanitary. Smells dirty and like urine. Smoke detectors are missing or in non-working condition, broken glass in some rooms due to fixtures that had shattered and not been cleaned up, bed bugs, bloody sheets in one member of our group's room, garbages that were not emptied between old guest leaving a room and a new guests arrival, peep holes in guest rooms blocked, window seals secured with duct tape and prevented windows from being opened at all, at least one cat and several dogs staying/living at the hotel despite postings stating no animals allowed - staff stated they were all service animals, observed one guest allowing their dog to play in the pool water with toys, smoking within hotel rooms despite postings that stated smoking not allowed, one group member couldn't open the hotel room door to get out of room and room door couldn't be opened from the outside without extreme force, a registered sex offender living within the hotel and placed in a room along a main hallway and with a window view of the pool area, and several men lurking within hallways and entry doors to the hotel as guests come and go. In addition, the ice machines are empty, towels are not readily available at the pool or for the rooms, carpet is extremely dirty and ripped up in many of the rooms, lamps are broken, bed skirts and curtains are ripped, pillows are smelly,old, and lumpy, and air conditioners are adequate at best. Staff reported that some guests have "lived in the hotel for years." Hallways are confusing, elevators do not take guests to each level which would make a stay for anyone with limitations nearly impossible. On a positive note, the front desk staff are friendly and given the fact that they seemed to be working alone most of the time they did the very best that they could. Management should be ashamed of themselves for putting staff in this position. This hotel has great potential with the right managment and a complete destruction of current conditions and remodel. Current photos on YELP and website are misleading and out-of-date by many years. Save yourself from feeling dirty, a sleepless night, and go stay in your vehicle or somewhere else for the same amount of money. There is no price or deal that would make this hotel/motel worth staying at. read more

DO NOT STAY HERE - not only is it the MOST disgusting hotel room I've ever stayed in. Had it not been 11:30 PM I would have left and found another place. I've filed a complaint with the Iowa Better Business Bureau as well as the City of West Des Moines. Dead bug in bathroom, unfinished drywall repair, beat up furniture, carpet had a dirt traffic trail that looked like had not been cleaned in 20 years. Carpet was not attached to floor in some area's - the throw on the bed had been washed with the bath towels so it had nasty lint all over it - AND they charged as much as most hotels in the area - they should be SHUT DOWN and I hope they are. Hotels.com refunded me 100% of my money after they saw the pictures I sent them - no questions asked. AND THE KICKER!... the General Manager Jennifer said she and two of her co-workers checked the room and found it to be fine. REALLY?!? I checked in and there were questionable people in front of the hotel lobby - did not appear to be a safe place in an otherwise nice part of West DesMoines. the 2 stars are because one of the front desk girls was nice. this place is super gross. the rooms are very poorly lit and i definitely didn't want to walk around without my shoes on. there was a dirty wash cloth in the bathroom and i don't even want to talk about the room service situation. just avoid it. avoid the hell out of the west inn diner or whatever they call it. read more

Went for an extended stay. Stayed 2 weeks. Was not a bad room, however the people down the hall were smoking pot and having a loud party when i came home from work at 4 am and security never even noticed. The pool wasnt working so there was no swimming. The place is also very expensive. The people at the front desk are nice for the most part. read more

I have been an extended stay customer and have been pleased in all areas. A clean, very nice suite. Absolutely comparable to a loft apartment. Housekeeping if needed . Accommodating staff. I have been here for a nearly a year and have had the service and accommodations promised. The manager Jennifer does an awesome job And works to resolve any issues and goes out of her way to be helpful. Indoor pool. Bar and Cafe as well. Hy vee across the street as well as Restaurants. Security doors and parking is plentiful. And an Atm is also on site. It rained and snowed a bit last night and the sidewalk and parking lot are always clear and safe. I would recommend and have recommended Valley West Inn. read more

I was really excited to stay here but was sadly disappointed. The front desk was beautiful but as we worked our way back to our room it only got worse and worse. Our room had a giant stain on the floor, holes in the wall, and a piece of trim was missing entirely. The bed sheets were dirty, and I found a screw, a metal screw that you put into the wall, imbedded in the comforter... We also quickly found out that the deadbolt was broken and the chain latch that had once been at the top of the door was missing, meaning that my toddler could open and close the door as he pleased and there wasn't even a chair in the room that I could push in front of the door. My husband ended up sleeping on the floor in front of the door to keep my son inside. There wasn't a telephone in the room either, which was one of the strangest things. At about 10 o'clock the night of our stay, an exit door alarm started going off. Mind you, we had two small children staying in the room and a loud noise at 10 o'clock at night is Not what we needed. Both children woke up crying. We called the front desk after ten minutes and the lady said she was the only person working and she'd get down to fix it as soon as she could. 15 minutes later it was still going off so my sister called. Another 15 minutes and we called again. It was nearly an hour before the alarm finally quit. On top of everything else, the front desk was lack luster and extremely frustrating. My check in was fine, but when my sisters arrived and asked which direction to go to for our room, they had to wait for the front desk woman to finish her cigarette. The same thing happened to me at checkout. The lady was pleasant, after her cigarette, but after having told her about how horrible our stay was, it would have been nice for her to comp our room, or at the least offer a free night in one of the nicer rooms. This hotel stay was supposed to be a reunion of sorts and I thought I'd rented a nice room. Had I been in one of the rooms pictured, located at the front of the hotel, I'm sure my visit would have been better. I wouldn't be nearly upset either if the pictures online matched the Actual rooms. It's false advertising and extremely deceptive. read more
