On my recent trip to Sturgis, I stayed at Hampton Inn & Suites properties along the way. While most of my experiences were excellent -- especially at the other Hampton and Embassy Suites hotels -- I had a very disappointing stay at one particular Hampton Inn. At this property, the shower did not work, the bathroom door handle was broken so the door could not shut, and the towel holder was also broken. The most unsettling issue was that when I got into bed, I found black hairs and sand in the sheets. To make matters worse, I had to wait until 2:30 AM to receive a top sheet, even though I had a 10-hour motorcycle ride the next day. I attempted to reach out to the manager, Derek Hood but never received a response. I later called Hilton directly, and I was grateful that your team listened and worked to make things right. I still love Hampton Inn & Suites and Embassy Suites, but I want other travelers to be aware that this specific Hampton Inn was not up to Hilton standards. It was one of the worst hotel stays I've ever had, and I cannot recommend stopping there.

Last year's (2025) stay was a much better experience than this year. Here is what I experienced in chronological order. The back parking lot needs to be repaved. There are about 10 spaces in front of the front checkin door. All others park around the back of the building. It is a large lot but there are lots of cracks and some hard to avoid pot holes. We checked in right at 3pm. My husband's key opened the door. Mine did not.we went back to the check in desk and they reprogrammed my key. The key failure was not over, though. I had alot of trouble with the remote for the TV. There were no instructions or even a cheat sheet to help me figure out how to watch the channel I wanted to. I ended up just saying "Forget it." And turned it off for the remainder of our stay Final straw. Once more for the room key. After they fixed my card, my husband's card became disabled! So he is back at the front desk with BOTH keys asking to get both keys to work. None of my complaints are earth shattering. It is just when I check into a hotel, I want to be able to relax. For this stay. There was too much running back and forth to the front desk.

The lobby was beautiful, with plenty of places to sit and a coffee making machine that could make you lattes, mochas and even hot chocolate, which I utilized multiple times. The pool was clean and brightly lit and honestly beautiful. The rooms were clean and had that extra blanket and pillow in the closet that you always hope is there when you want to feel extra cozy. This Best Western is clearly run by hospitable, welcoming people who know what they're doing. The only critique I have is that the elevator buttons seemed a little old, but they were still working properly. I felt well taken care of, cozy and comfortable, and all at a reasonable price. I would stay there again for sure. I can't wait to have another hot chocolate by their fireside in the lobby. Keep it up, you guys! I had such an amazing time. We'll be back!

It seemed to be a VERY personal call in my opinion and perhaps maybe too personal to be making at work, especially where patrons can hear you and particularly when your personal call keeps your patrons waiting to check in for several minutes. After he finally told the person on the other end that he had to go because he had customers, the rest of the process went smoothly. We liked the location and the room was comfortable. The morning breakfast was good, with a good variety and comfortable dining area. This will definitely be the hotel we use for future visits to Des Moines.

The front desk staff was so friendly and welcoming, and probably the nicest I've experienced in awhile. And it was both the gentleman on Friday night and a separate gentleman Saturday morning. Both were fantastic. The hotel was clean and looked updated. The pool and hot tub were open, but sadly we did not have time to use either. The continental breakfast in the morning was great. They had the coolest pancake machine ever, hot premade omelets, bacon, different breads, yogurt, cereal, and cinnamon rolls. There was also hot coffee, hot water, and juices. Definitely a pretty decent breakfast. Our room was clean, didn't smell bad, and was at a nice comfortable temperature when we entered. The room had tons of hook for hanging things, tons of shelving, and even a fainting couch. The noise was never an issue here either which is a plus. Everything worked as it should and we never complained to each other about anything related to the room. We really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely recommend it!

Highly recommend for both business and leisure travel. Seven large bedrooms can accommodate a group. Please note: The only negative reviews that keep this from being five star was many years ago under prior owners. I was here at that time and had a very positive experience during my stay, though the family/owners were dealing with very difficult health challenges. The atmosphere in the home is five star now.
