Very pleased to stay here during a Christmas festival visit to central Iowa. We decided tonstay here because it is pet friendly and we preferred to bring ours along instead of getting a pet sitter for then weekend. A very nice 3 star hotel. Nice indoor pool. Outdoor gas fire pit with comfy chairs. Plenty of place to walk our dog around the hotel. The room was spacious. We had a king sized bed with a shower (not the tub option, which looked great in pics). The bed was comfortable. The lobby is nice and comfy. It doubles as the breakfast area. Breakfast was good. Waffles, biscuits/gravy, eggs, cereals, bagels. The staff, especially Jenn, was great. read more

We go to this hotel once or twice per year. We went for my birthday weekend, however this time we were not impressed. There were socks on the floor from a previous guest, there was a summer sausage casing on the floor, the toilet seat and toilet itself were loose and moved around (which in itself was scary) I have a lung disease so my lungs pick up quickly if an area is not clean, I spent the entire weekend in coughing fits, which until you have a lung disease you will never understand how hard those are on our body. Its in need of extreme cleaning. We usually enjoy it but this time was hard. read more

If you are traveling through Iowa and need a good place to stay I would 100% recommend this hotel. We pulled up and I was so happy because we got this hotel through Hotwire and you never know what you're going to get. It had a very homey vibe and you felt like you were in the mountains. Our room was very clean and nice, our bed was comfortable. It was just my husband and I traveling, but if you have little kids I noticed they didn't have a bathtub so that would be concerning if we had little kids to bathe. I didn't see a pool, not sure if they have one but also if you have kids that's one thing you would want to check into. We had a complimentary breakfast with homemade biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs and sausage. They also had coffee and juice. Staff was very welcoming and friendly. Such a neat place to stay! Shopping for hotels on a corporate travel website is a science. Once in awhile, I'll come across a gem like Wildwood Lodge that's a unique space at a reasonable price. When I arrived, there was plenty of parking. I quickly grabbed my bags and took shelter from the rain inside the lobby. It was late at night, but the front desk staff was courteous and efficient. I took more pictures of the lobby than I have at any other hotel I've stayed at. Such a cozy, well-decorated space. Loved my room too! Insert inappropriate joke about the paddles on the wall. The only downside was the squeaky ceiling from my upstairs neighbor. That and the fact that my in-room alarm clock was automatically set for 6am. NOOOO!!! Housekeeping, please turn this off. Hot, delicious breakfast with lots of options. Whether you want pastries or eggs, I always walked away satisfied and ready for the day ahead. I'd always bring my laptop down in the mornings to get work done while eating. Plus, coffee never seems to run out. Overall excellent value, especially for the price. And pet friendliness gets bonus points in my book. read more

A hidden gem tucked back from the road. We were skeptical at first due to the more-than-reasonable cost of the room, but were pleasantly surprised the minute we walked in. So much nicer than the big chain hotels! A cabin like motif greets you in the lobby and is carried throughout the hotel. Front desk was courteous and helpful. The pool and hot tub are fabulous. The lodge is convenient to the interstate and it is blessedly quiet. Beds are comfortable, walk in shower was appreciated, everything very clean. The buffet breakfast of real scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, oatmeal with a variety of toppings, fresh fruit and pastries, and juices were plentiful and tasty. Our second visit to Wildwood. A great experience. Front desk was polite and personable. We were greeted and had a warm welcome from staff. Once in the room, noticed immediately how clean the room was. The bathroom was just as clean. No major ware or tear like most places we stay. Bed was great. We both slept soundly and comfortably. No waking up with stiffness or back pain like we do most hotel stays. We stayed and enjoyed an amazing breakfast. It had great variety and was prepared in front of us so we knew it was fresh. Stayed here while we went out to Saylorville to boat--and it was Amazing. All staff was extremely friendly, especially Katherine. She went out of her way to make our stay enjoyable. The pool and breakfast areas were kept tidy and constant cleaning was done to follow Covid-19 guidelines. There was also hand sanitizer and signs everywhere to remind everybody to be 6 feet away. We enjoyed a "pool-view" room which was the highlight of our stay. There was a table & chairs right outside our door, so our Girls were in the pool non-stop! Loved the whole "Lake" theme and definitely will be back. read more

So we needed a place to stay the night on our 16 hour drive, and this place was a perfect halfway point. We were expecting just an average hotel, especially for the price, but this hotel is FAR BEYOND AVERAGE!!! The rooms are spacey and clean, and the front desk person greeted us with a smile and helped us out with whatever we needed. The free breakfast was amazing, and one of the employees stopped by periodically to check on us and clear our plates which we're surprised at because hotels rarely have that kind of service!!! The ambiance is unique and makes you feel like you are in a rustic cabin. Better than any chain hotel in the nearby area! read more

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Wildwood Lodge on November 30, 2020. We stayed there with our two dogs. Our room was spotless and cozy , it even smelled clean and not like carpet freshener. My girlfriend and I had a nice stay at the Wildwood Lodge in Cl8ve last weekend. The lobby and room were outstanding, as was the young man who checked us in. The bed was comfortable, there was no issue with noise and the breakfast was everything I expected. We really liked the atmosphere of the hotel - it was unlike anyplace we'd stayed at before. We would not hesitate to stay here again. Our stay loses one star due to the bathroom. The water pressure in our room was really low. I have thick hair and the low pressure made washing it difficult. Also, the toilet nearly overflowed when we flushed it. We mentioned that to the desk clerk when we checked out, and she said that was normal. read more

What a great hotel! The husband and I are on a trip from breckenridge to chicago, and needed to stop for the evening and get some sleep. We googled nearest hotels, and this was had great reviews so we decided to check it out. I am so glad we did as it lives up to the 5 star reviews. A clean hotel, with a rustic cozy sort of woodsy feel. Nicely decorated, and a very friendly guy at the desk (Ron) greeted us warmly despite it being 2 am. Our room was nicely looked after, love the environmentally conscious signage everywhere. Reminds us that we share this planet, and to care for it even when our heads are in the clouds on vacation. Some cool decor thru out the rooms too, really liked the cabin feel and decorative paddles (see pic). The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom was sparkly clean, and the vending machine in the hallway was a nice little bonus to get an ice cold bottle of water in the middle of the night. The breakfast definitely looked above and beyond a traditional continental, although we didn't get to indulge! Would be curious to find out exactly what they had. This was a great hotel, and a superb experience. Will definitely stay again if we pass thru Clive/West Des Moines. One note: previous person to stay seemed to spill coffee on the carpet , and you could def see the stain. Some stain remover wouldn't hurt- just glad we could identify what it was being right below the coffee pot :) no big deal to us - but another person might mind! read more

I really do like this place. The staff are super friendly here. The pool area is nice. The gym here is very small but that's not an issue. The rooms are amazing. This is my second time staying in the king size room and it's roomy and very comfortable. I've only stayed here twice since I only stay here when my job requires me to work out of state (I work out of Omaha) but this hotel really makes working in Des Moines not too bad. 10/10 recommend if you ever take a trip to Des Moines read more

The lounge by the fireplace seemed comfy, but all the surfaces were covered with a black, sooty material. Had it been a wood burning fireplace I would have assumed they had a chimney cleaning service in that had been sloppy. It stained our arms, hands and clothes. Very irritating. So glad we stayed here! Picked it as they take dogs and since we were moving across the country, had to be dog friendly. But the perks!! Free drink coupon, for over 21; great breakfast and ambiance of the place made me wish we could stay for a week. Fire pit going in January, fresh fruit at the front desk, just as cozy a room as you need and clean and cheerful. Took a long hot shower, was able to park the cars right outside our room and even tho the weather was January ice, the coffee and friendly staff made our heading out into the weather the next morning as pleasant as possible. Do yourself a favor and stay here. I'm going to stop by again and already recommended it to a pal heading that way. read more

Wow! This place is awesome! So clean & welcoming! Each guest over 21 gets a drink coupon for their hospitality hour & they put out snacks. They have a great fire pit they light every night, even in winter. This was a very nice hotel! The decor was fun and the staff was friendly. Check-in was quick and easy. The room was very spacious and bathroom was modern. The bed was comfortable. The only complaint I have was it's not very structurally sound. We could hear the people above us walking around and creaks through the ceiling. We were 2 doors down from the elevator and heard the 'dinging' of the floors very clearly. So it wasn't very quiet. I also wasn't impressed with the breakfast. Along with the standard waffle maker, they served sausage biscuits and gravy, which I'm not fond of. That's it for hot food. No eggs, no bacon, no sausage, no pancakes. I would stay here again. But I will be requesting a room on the top floor! read more

I have never been to a hotel where my entire family was harassed by the front desk person the second we walked in the door. My parents booked a room for the weekend so that they could spend some time at the pool with their grandkids. When my family (wife and two kids) walked in the door we were grilled about where we were going, room number, and whether we were the names on the room. We then were told that we were not allowed to use any facilities because we were not the registered guests. My sister and her two kids were then chased down the hallway and told there were too many people in the room and that only 5 people per room were allowed. Seems a bit aggressive for 5 professional adults (only my parents were sleeping there) and 4 little kids who just wanted to swim for the afternoon. Lost several customers,who travel for a living, for good. read more

Was traveling cross country with a friend and two dogs and had been staying at your standard motels. But I have to say, Wildwood Lodge stands out as the best and truly differentiated itself from the rest. I would stay at Wildwood again in a heartbeat. The moment you walk in the door it feels differnt, it feels truly like a lodge with plenty of wood used in and around the massive lobby where they also have a pretty extensive continental breakfast. The rooms are also very large, you get a lot of space for the price which is just as good as any of the other chain motels. Great for the two dogs (my friend has a 10lb and a 40lb dog which is fine at Wildwood though they do limit it to dogs 50lbs and under). There's also a massive field right behind the lodge that the dogs obviously loved running and rolling around in. It's a great location, there are a couple places around that are open late/early for travelers and it's right near the I-80 on/off ramp, including Bakers Square (felt great to get some pie back in the midwest). Would stay at Wildwood again, it's a large step above the rest of the chain hotel/motels around. read more

After totally giving up on finding a decent restaurant in Ames - a college town, of all places - that didn't seem to be all "Nouveau Midwestern" steakhouse (you can take the realtree off of the "it flies it dies, it runs its done" hunter but you can't remove the bloodlust, apparently) - I got back on the freeway before ending up in the middle of nowhere to go find a place to sleep. There were several well lit signs for chain hotels on the side of the road - I picked Wildwood Lodge because it looked fun - all big timbers and a beautiful high ceiling lobby inside. The concierge was very friendly and she gave me my pick of rooms - and some recommendations for delivery or pick-up. I got into my room and showered just in time to watch most of "True Blood" - then my pizza arrived in time for the encore presentation! The bed was super comfortable - one of the best on this trip so far - and I slept so well that 2/3 of the king size bed was still neatly made when I awoke! The bathroom was clean and the hot water plentiful. The concierge was super friendly and helpful - and there were some vegan-ish options at breakfast, and importantly - hot water for my miso and tea! The hotel itself was nice and quiet - I had a great view of the moon (it was pink!) and there weren't any weird ambient sounds like you get in some hotels with antiquated plumbing or HVAC. Very cozy and comfortable, reasonably priced - I'd recommend them to anyone! read more

Booked a room last minute via Hotwire for a one night stay as we were driving westward home. They gave us a king bed, but my husband asked if we could have a double queen since we had a child with us. They didn't have any available, so the nice lady at the desk upgraded us to a king suite with a pull-out bed at no additional cost. The room was a bit musty and damp, but clean. Probably because of the jacuzzi in the bedroom. Also, probably not a good idea to have carpet around the jacuzzi. The complementary breakfast was decent: breakfast potatoes, scrambled eggs, cereal, toast, bagels, English muffin, fruit, yogurt, coffee, and OJ. It was located in a safe area and around lots of chain restaurants. read more

This is our 2nd time staying at the wildwood lodge. It's about a 15 minute ride max to the Iowa State Fair. They have a nice pool with hot tub, breakfast and a little happy hour with snacks and drinks. The only complaint I have is the carpet in the rooms seems old and dirty. You can tell the hotel could use an update. But everyone was very nice and they let us check in early. Will be back next year. read more

Where do I begin?? The front desk was extremely friendly & check in process smooth. . . The location was very convenient, easily accessible. . . The room was lovely! We had a massage chair - that felt oh, so good! Comfy bed. . . GREAT shower! Great decor in the room AND very clean! Only thing that was missing was a little refrigerator... but we managed without. The room was exceptional for the price that we paid, stylish (in the woodsy cabin sort of way) and the bathroom was the biggest I've seen outside of high-priced suites. Breakfast was terrific including do-it-yourself Belgian waffles. Good stuff. 3 or 4 chain restaurants within walking distance so that you could have that extra long island after a day on the road and slip back to your hotel room no worse for wear. *cough* In theory at least. But the real reason we went to Wildwood as we passed through Des Moines was for the pool. The pool self-described as 'a raised spa and a waterfall into the pool under a three story atrium' that was supposed to keep my travel-worn kid amused for hours between the spa and the waterfall and the other kids that were surely there on a Friday night. Yeah, not so much. It was just a pool and a hot tub. A small pool. The waterfall was dried up. Not the family destination described on their site. And no other kids. Based on the advertisement and my expectations, Wildwood is a solid 3. If they alter their message to attract business types and older travelers they'd inch themselves up to 4 stars pretty easily. But waterpark destination it is not. read more

I was driving cross country from east to west, was tired and really needed a place to relax and sleep. I found this hotel using a different app because the price through trip adviser was higher. I was very pleasantly surprised when I found the hotel and the welcoming outdoor gas fireplaces by the main entrance. The lobby has a very woodsy, rustic theme and made me feel very welcome. There was no line to check in and the person at the front desk was extremely friendly and helpful. I was also very surprised to learn that upon check-in you got a complementary adult beverage that you could enjoy either in their wonderful lobby or in your room. The room was absolutely outstanding! It was quite large, everything about it was impressively clean, and the bed and pillows were very comfy. The room had a cabin decor including a wall mount of full-size decorated canoe paddles. The morning breakfast was served hot and fresh and gave you many choices to choose from. For the quality of their facility, spacious rooms, and the friendly staff, I would've expected to pay much more for room. That is why I gave this facility a five star rating and will stay here again. The only nit that I do have is that I drive an electric vehicle and they did not have any charging facilities in their parking area. Since electric vehicles are becoming more common, I hope to find more hotels with at least one charger (30 - 50A) in their parking lots. read more

Amusingly wonderful! A little kitschy which was part of the charm. Service staff were so friendly - offered their pizza for dinner with our 'check-in cocktail' (complimentary). Our room was clean, soft bed and linens, refrigerator for our left-overs, quiet setting near lots of restaurant options. Shower size and hygiene products available were satisfactory. If you're looking for a quiet hotel to rest and relax, this ain't it. Kids running up and down the halls late at night and early in the morning. Probably wouldn't be bad if the walls weren't paper thin. Overall, decent hotel, just avoid any rooms that are next to the indoor pool as there is zero noise barrier and it stays open till 11:00 pm on the weekend so it does get loud. The rooms are ok nothing fancy, and a little dated for my taste but will work in a pinch. The room also had a micro fridge in the room, not sure about all rooms but ours had an incredibly slow drain, so by the time the shower was done the water was ankle deep. Not bad but definitely not great, just be aware that it's not for someone looking for rest after a long day on the road. read more
