If you are traveling through Iowa and need a good place to stay I would 100% recommend this hotel. We pulled up and I was so happy because we got this hotel through Hotwire and you never know what you're going to get. It had a very homey vibe and you felt like you were in the mountains. Our room was very clean and nice, our bed was comfortable. It was just my husband and I traveling, but if you have little kids I noticed they didn't have a bathtub so that would be concerning if we had little kids to bathe. I didn't see a pool, not sure if they have one but also if you have kids that's one thing you would want to check into. We had a complimentary breakfast with homemade biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs and sausage. They also had coffee and juice. Staff was very welcoming and friendly. Such a neat place to stay! We will stay here again if we get back to cute little Clive, Iowa!

Excellent resort-style hotel without the resort prices. Highly recommend. Very good breakfast; well above what I typically expect. Pet friendly. Expansive rustic-themed lobby and dining area. Large indoor pool. Exceptionally pleasant service. Great value.

Shopping for hotels on a corporate travel website is a science. Once in awhile, I'll come across a gem like Wildwood Lodge that's a unique space at a reasonable price. When I arrived, there was plenty of parking. I quickly grabbed my bags and took shelter from the rain inside the lobby. It was late at night, but the front desk staff was courteous and efficient. I took more pictures of the lobby than I have at any other hotel I've stayed at. Such a cozy, well-decorated space. Loved my room too! Insert inappropriate joke about the paddles on the wall. The only downside was the squeaky ceiling from my upstairs neighbor. That and the fact that my in-room alarm clock was automatically set for 6am. NOOOO!!! Housekeeping, please turn this off. Hot, delicious breakfast with lots of options. Whether you want pastries or eggs, I always walked away satisfied and ready for the day ahead. I'd always bring my laptop down in the mornings to get work done while eating. Plus, coffee never seems to run out. Overall excellent value, especially for the price. And pet friendliness gets bonus points in my book.

Our second visit to Wildwood. A great experience. Front desk was polite and personable. We were greeted and had a warm welcome from staff. Once in the room, noticed immediately how clean the room was. The bathroom was just as clean. No major ware or tear like most places we stay. Bed was great. We both slept soundly and comfortably. No waking up with stiffness or back pain like we do most hotel stays. We stayed and enjoyed an amazing breakfast. It had great variety and was prepared in front of us so we knew it was fresh. We will definitely be back!!!'

Stayed here while we went out to Saylorville to boat--and it was Amazing. All staff was extremely friendly, especially Katherine. She went out of her way to make our stay enjoyable. The pool and breakfast areas were kept tidy and constant cleaning was done to follow Covid-19 guidelines. There was also hand sanitizer and signs everywhere to remind everybody to be 6 feet away. We enjoyed a "pool-view" room which was the highlight of our stay. There was a table & chairs right outside our door, so our Girls were in the pool non-stop! Loved the whole "Lake" theme and definitely will be back.

What a great hotel! The husband and I are on a trip from breckenridge to chicago, and needed to stop for the evening and get some sleep. We googled nearest hotels, and this was had great reviews so we decided to check it out. I am so glad we did as it lives up to the 5 star reviews. A clean hotel, with a rustic cozy sort of woodsy feel. Nicely decorated, and a very friendly guy at the desk (Ron) greeted us warmly despite it being 2 am. Our room was nicely looked after, love the environmentally conscious signage everywhere. Reminds us that we share this planet, and to care for it even when our heads are in the clouds on vacation. Some cool decor thru out the rooms too, really liked the cabin feel and decorative paddles (see pic). The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom was sparkly clean, and the vending machine in the hallway was a nice little bonus to get an ice cold bottle of water in the middle of the night. The breakfast definitely looked above and beyond a traditional continental, although we didn't get to indulge! Would be curious to find out exactly what they had. This was a great hotel, and a superb experience. Will definitely stay again if we pass thru Clive/West Des Moines. One note: previous person to stay seemed to spill coffee on the carpet , and you could def see the stain. Some stain remover wouldn't hurt- just glad we could identify what it was being right below the coffee pot :) no big deal to us - but another person might mind!

The room smells very bad like mildew. When we got undressed to go to bed, we noticed the floor feels damp/wet & gross. ***2nd message sent to the text service the next morning after I talked to the lady at the front desk: Even when your head of cleaning walked in, she said: "whoa!" As soon as she smelled the room right when we opened the door. I guess this is your way of fixing the wet nasty floor for guests?!?! At least she was sympathetic, because she knows no one should've been assigned this room; and brought us blankets so we wouldn't have to walk on a completely wet floor. Also; when we got back last night, the air was on the coldest setting, I put the temp all the way up to 75, it's still only 66 degrees in the room... so that's broken also! We definitely should not be paying for this crappy room. I am not happy at all. The night person shouldn't have ignored my texts. The person at the desk this morning, offered to put in a work order, that totally wouldn't help our situation this morning... very nonchalant and didn't care. When I started explaining our situation, she replied "oh yeah..." so she knows we had a problem and texted, but she said sometimes they don't do a good job at replying to texts at night. This is not good customer service at all. When I checked out, I re-explained my situation to another male at the front desk. He said he'd give my info to the manager when she gets in about a refund. I waited a whole week. No one had contacted me and no refund was refunded! Worse experience in a very long time!!! A. Taylor Omaha, Ne

The lobby was beautiful, with plenty of places to sit and a coffee making machine that could make you lattes, mochas and even hot chocolate, which I utilized multiple times. The pool was clean and brightly lit and honestly beautiful. The rooms were clean and had that extra blanket and pillow in the closet that you always hope is there when you want to feel extra cozy. This Best Western is clearly run by hospitable, welcoming people who know what they're doing. The only critique I have is that the elevator buttons seemed a little old, but they were still working properly. I felt well taken care of, cozy and comfortable, and all at a reasonable price. I would stay there again for sure. I can't wait to have another hot chocolate by their fireside in the lobby. Keep it up, you guys! I had such an amazing time. We'll be back!

It seemed to be a VERY personal call in my opinion and perhaps maybe too personal to be making at work, especially where patrons can hear you and particularly when your personal call keeps your patrons waiting to check in for several minutes. After he finally told the person on the other end that he had to go because he had customers, the rest of the process went smoothly. We liked the location and the room was comfortable. The morning breakfast was good, with a good variety and comfortable dining area. This will definitely be the hotel we use for future visits to Des Moines.

Exterior/Parking/Curb Appeal/Location: The outside of the hotel was not really changed from the renovation, but it still looks quite nice and is well kept, even from a distance. The parking lot is in good shape and well lit, though while plenty of doors are present, the key reader on one is broken. The location is also convenient with several restaurants and convenience stores nearby, as well as easy interstate access. The wonderful Jordan Creek is only a couple of minutes away too. Interior Common Areas: The lobby was nice, as were the business and fitness centers, I did not check out the pool. The free breakfast was pretty solid, though the lack of waffles was somewhat disappointing. The hallways and elevator were kept clean throughout my stay. Staff: Everyone I interacted with was very nice, no complaints here. The Room: -Security: They weirdly didn't upgrade to RFID, but the magnetic lock and deadbolt, as well as the latch lock all worked. The biggest issue here was the lack of a fire map in the room. -Cleanliness: Everything was about as clean as the housekeepers could've gotten it, but the carpet was in need of a deep cleaning. Also, the bathroom floor had some set in stains on it that looked like footprints. -Overall Layout: Upon entering the room, you'll find a spacious living room with a comfy sofa, a large desk, a chest of drawers, a TV, and a wet bar area. It housed a mini fridge, microwave, ice bucket, coffee supplies, and cups. This part of the room was well lit and lacked issues. Moving on is a sink with good space and a well lit mirror, and the rest of the bathroom right across from it. It was spacious for how it was laid out and had a nice tub shower and toilet, though the lack of lotion was disappointing. Beyond this were two queen beds, more drawers, outlets, USB ports, a TV, and closet. Again, this was clean, but a little bit more worn than the rest of the room. The HVAC and view was fine. Summary: This is a nice hotel, though the minor maintenance, security, and cleanliness issues are concerning enough for me to take a star away.

But once you leave that area and go down the hallway to the rooms, it's a different feel. The hallways are dark. Our room was fine. We got a two queen bed room which also had a pull out coach. It was spacious for us. The room itself needed lots of updates. The wallpaper was starting to peel, the bedroom half of the room was very dark, random light switch that didn't turn anything on or off. Plus sides - person at reception was very friendly both evenings. And location is great! Would I stay there again? It depends. If there was another hotel in the same area around the same price, I'd probably try the other hotel. If this was a lot less expensive, then I'd be okay staying here again.

When did this start happening. Isn't it standard hotel procedure to refresh the room daily? 2) They slid my invoice under the room door very early in the morning (it was there when I woke up at 5:45am) on checkout day. I am not a fan of having my personal information slid under a door. All it takes is a tiny bit of human error and then someone has bits a pieces of my personal info and certainly enough to start charging items to the room. And my biggest issue of all ... 3) The "fitness center" is a complete joke and cannot be referred to as a fitness center. I don't expect very much out of hotel fitness centers, but this was a storage closet with 2 ellipticals, 2 treadmills and a dumbbell rack squeezed into a room the size of a closet. There wasn't even enough space to get down and do some push ups or sit ups. It's a complete slap in the face to anyone who books there and wants to get in a workout. I actually had to go seek out a gym in the area, and pay them, in order to get my workout in when I should have been able to do that at the hotel since they advertise a "fitness center."
