We were visiting the Valley Watermill Equestrian Center for a Barn Hunt Competition. The park offer horse riding training among other things. This was a good venue for Barn Hunt. It is Spacious. There's a great chance that we'll be ba k for more dog competitions.

When my daughter decided she wanted to get into horseback riding, I looked around at different stables, and liked Valley Water Mill the best for several reasons. First, they have a set of classes called Horse SHOE that teach the basics of safety and care of horses. These are pretty much a prerequisite for other types of lessons. Second, Valley Water Mill is actually part of the Springfield Park Board, so their rates are reasonable, and they have a variety of different programs for different ages and stages. They're not just focused on one type of riding (my daughter has done Western, English, and even started into acrobatic riding), or just training for competitions. They offer summer camps and day camps when school is out, birthday parties, and a pony class for parents and littles to do together. There is a variety of different horses at the center. Everything from the Sherif's Department Posse horses to very old or mistreated horses that the center has rescued and are trying to rehab. The instructors are very nice and are very knowledgeable. We've especially enjoyed working with Miss Lauren in a small group lesson setting this fall. The facility includes stables, an outdoor arena, and an indoor arena. They offer open riding times for those that have their own horses. If you have a horse, or want to get into riding, this is the place to be.

My daughter has been a client of Libby's now for over a year and reading the reviews posted on this…read moresite leaves me confused. This is not at all what our experience has been, in fact quite the opposite. This barn and its team of trainers, staff and fellow customers have been a blessing to me and my daughter. Libby and Kim are excellent teachers and never once have I heard anything said to a child in content or tone that was inappropriate. You are not dealing with a soccer ball here these are live animals and must be respected, kids have to learn this skill. The safety of the kids and the horses are their main priority. Libby has some of the best beginner lesson horses anywhere and the care she gives these animals is top notch. I can honestly say that every child I have seen at lessons or at camp (my daughter has done both and is at the barn 2-3 times a week) is having a great time!!

I then decided this was not a place conducive to children. I don't know the whole story, not do I know what caused her to scream at the child, nor does that matter. Think of it this way parents, would you want a total stranger spanking your kid? That's what her behavior reminded me of.
