I'm writing this review after losing my dog. I understand not every case has a perfect outcome, but the way this was handled left me heartbroken and feeling like money mattered more than compassion. I brought my 10 year old dog in for an emergency appointment after he suddenly started limping and his leg became severely swollen. I paid around $800 for the visit and x-rays. I was told he had moderate to severe arthritis, extreme inflammation, chronic bronchitis, an enlarged heart, and a fever. What I cannot understand is how a dog with severe swelling, significant pain, and a fever was sent home without antibiotics or bloodwork. Instead, he was sent home with Gabapentin & Rimadyl. Within days his leg worsened, ruptured, and began draining. We had to call back ourselves and ask for antibiotics. Although the male vet we spoke with was extremely kind and compassionate, only then were they prescribed. We were then told bloodwork and opening the leg would cost another $1,100-$1,300, after I had already spent every dollar I had less than a week before. Two days after starting antibiotics, my dog suddenly vomited a massive amount of blood. It was traumatic beyond words. My 6 year old son was home and in tears, so we had to quickly arrange child care. We called the after hours line and were transferred to the on-call vet. The response we got was cold, rude, and completely lacking empathy while we were in crisis. We were immediately told it would be $250 just to be seen, on top of any treatment. My fiancé was crying on the phone, and the way we were spoken to in that moment was shocking and heartless. Within about 30 minutes, my dog collapsed and died in my arms at home. When we arrived at the clinic with his body, before we had even taken him out of the car, we were met with paperwork, cremation pricing, and questions about money. To this clinic, he may have been another patient. To me, he was my first dog, my best friend, and family. He was with me through the best and worst years of my life. I trusted this clinic to help him, and instead I'm left with grief and the feeling that his suffering could have been reduced if more had been done sooner. read more

I used to take my dog here. But demanding an office exam every single time is gluttonous. And not scheduling for the spay but demanding an unnecessary exam prior to making an appointment for the spay? ? People aren't RICH and can afford to make TWO trips with gas prices as they are, and the time involved. But I guess your arrogance doesn't mind losing any client, even after eight years. I'm fed up with the gluttony of Vets anymore. They are as bad as dentists. All cut throats. read more

I took my 9 month old male Siamese cat here 2 weeks ago because he was showing pain going to the bathroom. I dropped him off in the morning and picked him up at night and they sent me home with prescription food and apparently they gave him a shot. The last couple days he been acting lethargic and I woke up this morning to find him dead on my couch. I just think it's weird that they did all this testing and couldn't find anything other than a possible uti. Did they make my cat sick on purpose so I had to bring him back? read more

The after-surgery service and care was the worst I've experienced. We did not talk to a vet or a tech, instead the receptionist read the after surgery care from a printed sheet & didn't mention that we had to return to remove stitches. Worse, our dog had a mass dug out from her leg & she was returned with it red, raw & oozing without any bandaging. The person led her in from the dirt outside & told us that some oozing was good. They didn't put an e-collar on her & 3 days later the site was opened down to the meat. We took her to another vet to get it fixed. The site was completely stitched closed, the tech talked to us & explained everything. An e-collar was automatically put on, & we were sent home with anti-biotics & inti-inflammatory pills & an appt. to remove stitches. The difference is care & service was from 1 star to 5! I would never bring an animal to this clinic again. read more

On two separate occasions (once for cat, once for dog), I called on an emergency/urgent basis. Both my pets had been seen exclusively by VV for years. I was told in each situation that they had no appointments available. However, they needed to be seen on an emergency basis...emergencies don't happen on a schedule. They would not see my pets or even schedule an appointment. They did not add them to an urgent wait list. I took my cat to another vet clinic in Kelso and they got her in immediately, even though she had never been seen there before. Unfortunately, she passed away. I called this same clinic later when VV would not see my dog. Their urgent care was full for the day but they gladly offerred to put my dog on an urgent wait list. Fortunately, dog was okay and didn't need care. VV should be ashamed of the way in which they handle urgent/emergency situations. I have transferred all my dog's care to the clinic in Kelso. I DO NOT recommend VV to anyone who truly values the life of their pet! read more

Feb 6, 2026, my 3-month-old goat, Plato, was diagnosed by Dr. Dustin with respiratory/GI infections and parasites. Feb. 19th, I found Plato near death; his temperature was too low to register. I rushed him to the clinic at 10am. A tech handed me a DNR form and then Dr. Brendan stated his system was shutting down, then walked away with no further communication. Later, Dr. Holden took over, he provided vague test results noting critical blood sugar and temp. issues. He said he would call between 2:00pm - 3:00pm so we could discuss Plato's condition and go from there. He never called. When I called at 3:00pm Dr. H. made it out that Plato was doing better and started regulating on his own but still not out of the clear, having a 50/50 chance making it through the night situation. At 5:00pm, I picked Plato up with an IV catheter still in his neck so they could reuse it the next day. In the car, Plato immediately began having seizures. I called the on-call vet, Dr. Dustin, who suggested maple syrup on the gums to stop the seizures, the game plan was I was to monitor Plato and if it progresses, I could call Dr. D. back. 9pm Plato had severe respiratory distress. I tried to reach Dr. Dustin again but could not get through due to uncommunicated "cutoff time" for calls. Plato died at midnight after hours of suffering. I later that night spoke with two other clinics (including OSU) who stated that, based on Plato's history, he actually had a 5% survival chance. I believe the clinic provided a false sense of hope to continue billing for services. when I called on Feb. 20th to report Plato's death, I was told Dr. H and Dr. D were out until Monday. I was told to expect a call by Tuesday: it never came. I later asked for management; the staff member said she was on lunch and would call back by the end of the day. She never called. This clinic showed a complete lack of professional communication, medical transparency, negligence, and no support during a terminal crisis. read more

I have been a costumer for valley vet for 25 years, in the last year I have noticed that they are becoming money hungry, overcharging, and charging for services not needed. They just charged me over $100 for a rabies shot my dog did not need. They screwed up in their record keeping. read more

When none of the vets in st Helen's or Scappoose were accepting new clients, Valley vet got me in. It took about 8 weeks to get in, but no other vet would even put me on a cancellation list, they just basically said - sucks to be you. I had recently adopted a 3 year old already spayed & vaccinated dog, I feel like she received a very thorough exam and I'll take her back annually for her check up. Thank you Valley Vet! read more

We are so happy with Valley Vet, they saved our kitty's life! We had taken her elsewhere first when she swallowed a string and the cost was so high at this other vet that we couldn't afford to get her the surgery she needed. We took her home and kept looking. Valley vet was able to get her in (call at 8am sharp for emergencies) and they did the surgery for 1/4 of the price or less than the first place we took her, making it a possibility and a reality to save our baby! We also take our cats here for their normal vet visits and they are wonderful. We are very happy with them!! read more

I will never recommend them to anyone... I live Literally 2 minutes from them and I called for a Miniature cow that was choking with an active blockage an they told me because they have never seen the animal they couldn't help, ended up having to drive an hour north to an emergency vet and she barley survived. I think that place is Horrible and has no business being a Vet. Are cow would have died and she is also pregnant, they didn't care, they wouldn't even provide advice. read more

Be careful if you have large animals. They occasionally do not have coverage for emergencies involving large animals and leave up to you to scramble to obtain care.in the middle of the night. This happened last night when one of my goats became ill @1am I called the clinic and message they left referred me to small animal vet clinics for emergencies When I was able to reach them in the am they were able to give me contact information to large animal vets. I have had one other episode that this happened although not as serious as this one. I have no issues with the staff or vets but I am seriously concerned about the lack of emergency coverage for large animals. read more

Reasonable fees compared to local competitors but more importantly, they are attentive and act like they want to help! I brought my pets in 2 hours late by mistake and the whole staff seemed to accommodate us and get us right in. I felt so bad but they acted as if it were normal and treated us like valued guests. I'm new here after spending the last 20 years with another clinic, but after two visits, I'm glad we changed. read more

They really make it difficult for people. My dog has been going there since she was 8 weeks old . She is 2 now. I am not allowed to pick up her flea medicine (that I do every month) because she is due for her yearly exam. Like, what? I asked if I make an appt, can I then pick up the flea medicine she is due for now? Nope, you have to make an appt. So the appt (plus the two shots she is due for) will be about $166 ,including the flea medicine. Well, I don't have that today, as I was only expecting to spend $35 to get the flea treatment. I then look at my pay schedule and try to make an appt for next Saturday. I was then told that I have to pay a $65 deposit for the appt. WHAT????? My dog is an established patient and this is ridiculous! Considering they are usually booked way out, that is terrible, terrible service to an established patient. I can see for a first time visit from someone but this. I didn't know the money was more important that the treatment. Sad. read more

I called ahead to find out if I could pay with my care credit after the visit because my son was gonna bring our dog in. They said yes. Lost my vet due to Covid and Valley was recommended. The two vets techs and the doctor treated me and my 3 cats with such kindness! And considering all that they had done, the price was way less than I expected. read more

Classic Bait and Switch costing $75 plus more than hour of time wasted. We called and asked if they performed a specific surgery for our dog and were told yes and that we needed to have a consultation prior to scheduling surgery. Upon arrival and waiting for more than an hour and then an appointment for consultation at a $75 cost we were told that they actually don't perform the surgery that we need to have completed for our dog. This is a classic bait and switch and a potential consumer protection violation. Beware. read more

Wow people are crazy. This is seriously one of the places I vowed to never review on Yelp because they are already so busy and so hard to get into. But once I read all the negativity I felt compelled. These Vets are the best and the prices are the best too. I drive from Portland to see the Vets here after reading a positive review on Yelp many years ago. I had a small dog and even though it was 10 years ago every Vet in Portland wanted $1K to clean her teeth plus extra $$ for extractions and blood tests. Found this vet and paid $250 including extractions and $60 for blood tests. They also helped my dog later with her heart problem and kidney failure in her last years. I had another dog that was diagnosed with a heart tumor and they referred us to a specialist who was great also. They did a minor surgery on my sister's dog and I have sent many people to them for treatment of their pets without a complaint. I will admit they are very busy, it can sometime feel like the DMV there. But that is because they are so skilled at such a reasonable price. read more

i took my cocker spaniel there for an eye infection and ear problems. the vets name was Dr. Brendan, I think his name was. He was the best vet I've ever had. He was very kind and loving towards my dog and ran tests on both eyes to make sure what was wrong. he swabbed both ears before perscribing medication. checked his heart, gum color and sent me home with three medications and scheduled a recheck in two weeks. and only charged $200. I will be asking for him from now on. read more

I'm glad I went here before reading reviews because I may not have chosen this place based on them. We brought our cat in for flea medication and they got us a first time appointment very quickly, on a Saturday!! So thankful. Yes we had to wait in our car when we got there for probably about 45 minutes but we didn't mind. When we got inside, they asked about certain yearly things that many people choose to get done and I told them we didn't/don't use those things and they were respectful of our decisions. Didn't try to shame us or talk us into anything that we have already researched and decided upon for our animal. Very different from other veterinary experiences we've had. The appointment was quick, yet thorough. We had a middle aged female doctor, tall and thin with glasses. I will be asking to see her next time. She's straight and to the point but also respectful and professional. read more

My mother-in-law has been bringing her pets here for YEARS, so of course when we got our puppy, Cali, we instantly called hoping they were taking new clients. Every visit has been beyond amazing. The vet techs are just incredible and so good with the pets, the front desk girls are always awesome when I call and they are so sweet, the veterinarian is always amazing. Also, more affordable than places in Longview/Kelso. We have never had issues with not getting to n at the time scheduled, I've seen so many reviews of people saying they would verbally and don't get in on time, we have never had this issue, ever! We love this vet and will always highly recommend to anyone! read more

We have been taking our animals here for close to 10 years, but that ends today. I was made to sit in my car (Covid), for an HOUR, and neither of my animals were checked in. Nobody even bothered to call me to let me know there would be such a long wait. (They had my cell phone number the whole time). They over book horribly. After sitting for an hour I called inside to find out when my animals would be seen (keep in mind it is early February and freezing cold outside - I couldn't leave my car on and run the heater that whole time without killing my battery). I was told, "oh, you're next". Shortly after being told I was "next", someone came out the clinic and instead of coming to my car, they went to a car that had arrived well after I had and brought their animal in. I left without either pet being seen. I will be finding a different vet. read more

We arrived on time for our appointment on time but weren't taken back until 45 minutes later. There was NO communication from the front desk explaining the delay during the entire 45 minutes we sat there waiting. From reading multiple reviews online both here and on Google, this is a very common problem. We were then taken back to an exam room that also doubled as a busy through-way between the back of the clinic and the front desk, quite the inappropriate setting for an exam room. Our puppy was very rambunctious and we explained this to the vet when we got to the room as he was 5 months old and we'd only had him for 6 days. He was there to get 2 vaccinations. He would not sit still, as already explained to the vet, certainly amplified by the people walking back and forth through the room constantly. Instead of asking us to help hold him, or ask a tech for assistance with him, the vet basically chased him around on the floor with the needles in her hand, actually sticking herself in the process. Only on the 2nd injection did she finally ask a tech to assist in holding the dog more still. I can assure you that the manner in which these were administered was painful for our dog. The entire visit was rushed by the vet. We did not feel at all comfortable asking questions about our dog's care because of this rushed feeling. We asked anyway but were always replied to with short answers while she continued to look at his medical records, not at us. We won't be bringing our dog back. On a different note, the vets in the large animal hospital who treat our chickens are excellent. They take the time to listen to the pet owners and treat both the owners and the animals with respect. Neither of these happened with our visit this week with our dog. read more

The male large animal vet is so rude and condescending. And he has done things that are totally unnecessary. He loves to just profess arrogantly. I won't take my animals to him. The lady vet, in large animal, is completely the opposite. She is frank, yet kind. She has treated a few of our farm animals and did an amazing job, and she didnt do extra stuff just to jack up the bill. She didn't talk down to us like the other vet. She is wonderful. read more

GREAT ! The rescue where we obtained our donkeys highly recommended Valley Vet. In moving, we needed to find a new vet closer to home due to our many animals (dogs, horse, donkeys, cats, & etc.). We found them very friendly, knowledgeable, and do not price gouged. We took our dogs and we paid half for their immunizations and visit than what we paid with our previous vet. Sammy (horse) was experiencing choke. They were here in less than 10 minutes. They assessed the situation and discussed options with me prior to treatment. I was so impressed with how they were able to calm Sammy while they tubed him to release the blockage. They stayed a bit to make sure he was OK and even offered to walk us through how to give him the injections and left enough medication to get me through the night/morning. The next day, when I went in to pick up his medications, they took the time to ask how he was doing. read more

My whole family drives from out of town because they have the best care and most reasonable prices by far. They can take care of things that a closer vet would send us to a specialist for. Are they busy because of that? Yes. Sometimes you have to wait but it's worth getting the best care for your pet. They recently did some renovations aimed at shortening wait times and check in and outs. read more

My little chihuahua was attacked by an unknown, wild animal in our backyard late in the evening. In desperation, I called Valley vet seeking emergency care for my bleeding dog who was in shock. No thanks to this clinic. read more

I have been going to this vet for 8 years. Most of the staff is great, but quality of service has declined dramatically under the newest owners the last few years. They have lost one of my pet's records 2 times and swear she has never been in even though I have old paper records in my files from them on her. Dr. Dustin Galbraith is rude, arrogant, and condescending. He believes he knows better than the pet parent what is right without even examining the patient. If I had followed his directions with my dog likely he would have died by now from food allergies, they were so severe. He wanted to give meds to control the itching and poo pooed me when I requested allergy testing. Told me it was not effective or necessary. I finally got the testing I requested, my dog is allergic to 5 of the top 10 dog food ingredients! 2 of them are HIGH allergy. Yesterday I had to make the hard decision that the quality of life for my 17 year old cat was just too far gone and that it was her time. He belittled me and told me I was getting in the way of her best care because I would not spend thousands of dollars to hospitalize her and let them continue to drag on her painful aging. I had to take her to another vet. I will never go back. I have pulled all of my pets from their care. They care more about the money than the animals they treat or the people who care for them. read more

My sister had called Valley Vet to get flea medicine for her dog. They told her that they do not have it in stock at the moment and to check out Chewy.com. She placed an order with Chewy for the flea medicine. Chewy had to contact the vet clinic to get approval for the order. Six days had gone by and she had not heard anything from the vet clinic and was told by Chewy the were waiting for the approval. My sister then called the vet clinic and they told her she had to pay a $6.50 fee for they would approve the order. This is absurd considering they did not have the medicine in stock, and was not going to pay the fee, so they waived the fee and would contact Chewy immediately and give the approval for the delivery of the medicine. I received a phone call the next day from Chewy and they still have not heard a word from the vet clinic. Also, they said they would even accept verbal approval for the medicine. I then contacted the vet clinic and asked if it was their policy to let animals suffer by holding their approval for the medicine. I told them that they lied to my sister when they said they would do this immediately and asked them if they knew the definition of the word immediately, if not, I would send them a dictionary. No response. They told me that they were waiting for my sister to pay the fee, which they told her the day before they would waive the fee. I asked if they lied to my sister or not telling me the truth. No response again. It was three more days before the vet clinic responded to Chewy and then we received the medicine. If you love your animal, I beg you not to take them this uncaring vet clinic. read more

Not safe for cats. I took my 2, one is unmanageble in for shot when I first moved here, no exam room, shots given in the main offic, no exam, charged for exam. since I was afraid to ever gring them into that bet again I decided they did not need anymore vaccinations until the rabies came due. They screwed up my appt, I tortured my cats and risked all of our lives going there and had missed one of my cat's appts. Becasue they did NOT notify me of her appt, only the other cats appt. time. So I fired them, I will drive further and get a vet I am not afraid of who doesn't screw up my appts and blame me for not notifying me. read more

The owner began treating my goat today, but then had a true meltdown. The rule of first "do no harm" didn't apply. He pulled her dead kid into the birth canal, said he needed to do a Cesarean, & then started accusing me of not trusting him. My lack of trust was the reason he gave for not continuing treatment, & throwing us out of his clinic. I offered to sign any papers he wanted, & even got down on my knees, & begged him to treat my goat. He just kept on about the lack of trust as he got angrier & angrier. On reflection, I realize that he is the same vet that examined my dog, gave him a rabies shot, but marked my male dog's papers as female. Then I remembered that we had a discussion several years back where he argued that naturopathic & homeopathic medicine is one & the same. And then I remembered paying for a farm call a few years back. On that visit, he insisted that my sow's injury was not her leg, but the opposite shoulder. And he was wrong once again. Her leg never healed properly, because he insisted I treat the shoulder. What a twisted ego this bad doctor has. His wife, that owes the clinic with him was present today, & joined in on his wild rant as they left me in their parking lot. These people are truly horrible. Can I give them less than one star, please? read more

My family have taken our pets and livestock here for years. They are always caring and professional. Their prices are also very reasonable. Our dachshund had her jaw broken by a much larger dog late one evening and we took her to the 24 hour vet hospital in Vancouver, because Valley Vet is not staffed 24 hours. The vet in Vancouver couldn't do anything and referred us to another vet, who wanted a huge amount of money to set her jaw. Since they couldn't do anything for her that night anyway, I called Valley Vet the next day and they were able to get her in and fixed her jaw for a fraction of what the other vet wanted. They are always no nonsense, tell it like it is, and have never tried to upsell us or charge for unnecessary services. read more

I have taken my two toy breed dogs here for teeth cleaning and extractions for two years now. They are no frills. There are no cookies in the lobby, no rock gardens with fountains, no fake grass with fire hydrant. But they have always given my pets kind service, taken good care of them, and are MUCH more affordable than any veterinary clinic in town. The service is $150 flat fee for cleaning and extractions. I had previously gone to the dental clinic inside Rose City Veterinary Hospital and paid thousands... but they had cookies. And fountains. Staff is nice, prices are reasonable. The care given to our multiple pets is somewhat inconsistent. There have been differing opinions within the office on how to treat one of our cats with an illness which is not really helpful. The reason for only three stars - it's impossible to get in an out in a reasonable amount of time. On more than one occasion it has taken minimally 30 minutes just to pay our bill with the last visit taking an HOUR to pay. Since they don't have the greatest hours, making someone wait so long on a work day isn't courteous or even reasonable under most circumstances. If we weren't always waiting for medications as well, I would probably leave without paying and just ask them to mail me a bill. read more
