Recently, my family and I decided to renovate our basement instead of moving to a new home. This is something we've never been a part of and were frankly pretty nervous about. After being in our home for 11 years, we'd built enough equity to get a loan, and remodel, but we had a very specific limit on how much we could spend. So when it came time to find a contractor we wanted to make sure we picked someone who was trustworthy first and foremost, reputable, and knowledgeable. We had worked with Rick before on some improvements to windows, doors, siding, etc, through the City of Fargo Renaissance program, and so naturally he was on our short list of contractors to obtain bids from. Rick's bid was the best of the 3 that we received, and given our history with him and his business, we felt best going with him. I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH HOW GOOD THIS DECISION WAS! The work done by Rick's crew, most notably Ryan Schuette, was so much better than we could have hoped it would be. Anytime a decision needed to be made on how to best do a particular job, it was always done the right way and not the cheapest way. There was never a concern about keeping it cheap, only doing what was best for the house, and for the client. And I can't thank them enough. Add to them their subcontractors, JDP Electric, and Magnell Plumbing. Scott from JDP was awesome, and listened to all my request for power outlet positioning, light switches, smurf tube, data lines, phone lines, everything down to the color temperature in the ceiling lights, and he made sure it was done just right. Mike Magnell from Magnell plumbing went so far above and beyond that I don't even know what to say. Example: he recognized the fact that at some point in the future we might get a fridge with water, and ice maker etc... and noticed that once the bathroom ceiling was in we'd never get a water line in, so he just ran a water line, even though it wasn't part of the bid, and that's just one of the many extra value's he provided. Rick and his team of workers, and subs are thoughtful, courteous, thorough, accurate, and precise with the work they do. Their is no notch higher than them, they are THE TOP NOTCH when it comes to this work! DO NOT hesitate to call them!

Since we moved in to our home, we've had a couple sewer backups that were finally solved by using 1 ply toilet paper. Not the most comfortable, but it's better than clearing out a clog every six months. Any way, we had a routine checkup and saw there was a tree root that had collapsed the pipe. I asked the drain guys who they work with and they recommended Key Contracting. I gave them a call and talked to a couple different people, but they quickly came out and assessed the situation. The cost numbers that were thrown out were a bit much, but winter was coming really soon and we figured once it's taken care of, we'd be better off. Clint was the man in charge and he gave us all the scenarios, if they had to dig into just our yard, or into the cul-de-sac. Now here's where I was impressed with their being upfront about my options. Rather than give me the doom and gloom option of only having to dig into the cul-de-sac and costing way more than we budgeted for, as well as get the city involved, he saw a more affordable option. It was to dig under our driveway (leaving it intact) and boring into a manhole. The only caveat was that the city wasn't too keen on doing that anymore, but they said they'd make some calls and let us know. Nice to know that there are companies out there that won't just screw you over with the most expensive option. Inside of a week, we had flags and spray paint on the lawn indicating where the utilities were and the proposed dig sites. My wife and I were excited to see one was by the manhole, but the other led into the center of the cul-de-sac, the more expensive option, yikes! A couple days later, my wife noticed their trucks and equipment outside, and they were coming toward the house with a mini-excavator. I went out and asked what was going on and apparently they were ready to start work before I had a written estimate! (I'll explain their reasoning later) I had them hold off until I heard from their boss (roughly 20 minutes later on the phone), who explained that they were going to bore into the manhole instead of the cul-de-sac so we were happy about that. I just wanted it done, so I gave the go ahead. After a day and a half of work, Clint flagged me down and gave me the fantastic news that hooking up our new pipe to the existing pipe in the cul-de-sac was going to work out just fine, they just couldn't see beyond the tree root so they thought they'd have to go another way. This meant not having to bore into the manhole, thus saving us a couple thousand dollars! I was ecstatic because usually when the foreman flags you down, it's not good news, but this time, we lucked out. All in all, the work took a couple days and my yard is a mess with tread tracks and some filled in holes, but it was explained very clearly that was going to be the case. Having this done in October, they were able to beat the snowfall, so that was preferable for them. Another plus, was they took out some dead bushes for me since they were so close to were they were digging, my wife was excited about that. In the end, there really was just one hiccup along the way, which was not being notified they were going to start prior to getting an estimate. When I inquired about the estimate, rather than a traditional one, I was given a hard number that they wouldn't exceed. Sure that sounds bad, but it was the same number the foreman had guesstimated the cost would be around. The really good news, the grand total was about 1/3 less the hard number. Ultimately, I'm sure there are other contractors out there, but I'm glad I went with these guys. They're local, honest, and up front about the process so you feel included every step of the way.

Come to find out they put a drain pipe directly behind the drywall. The even more disturbing part of this is that this wall was designated for TV mount. During our walkthrough this wasn't mentioned at all. They clearly knew we would mount a TV on this wall. The drain was less than 1 ft away from the electrical box cut out for the TV. No metal was placed on the pipe to ensure that a nail or screw didn't hit it. Jordahl says everything was done to code so they won't warranty it. Code fine but let's talk about common sense!! I mean seriously. If you build with or have built with them you may want to ensure this doesn't happen to you. This caused over $2000 in damage and ruined our $1500 fireplace. I am not happy and would not recommend them to anyone! They should at least out of courtesy paid for this damage and offered to make it right. Instead even the VP refused to pay to make it right. Terrible customer service and I regret building with them. This isn't the first house I have built and this is the worst experience that I have ever had. Our siding already is cracked, a brick fell off our stone in the front. Guess only time will tell what else will happen! Can't wait to look forward to that!

Kitchen Issues: The kitchen sink was leaking from underneath because a punctured pipe had been installed, and someone had to come replace it. Bathroom Problems: One of the toilets started leaking from the bottom less than a month after we moved in. Gas Safety Concerns: We also experienced two gas leaks -- one in the utility room and another under the stove -- which is extremely concerning for the safety of any family living here. Poor Interior Work: Even the countertop was installed poorly. The edge of the countertop was so weak that simply placing a dish with light pressure caused damage. Friends of ours who built with the same company had identical countertop issues, even without any impact at all. Overall Experience: Based on our experience, this has not been a reliable company, and the amount of problems we faced in a brand-new home has been very disappointing. Warranty Notice: The company has informed us that if the cost of the countertop repair is not paid, the home's warranty will be affected. Construction Phase Issues: For your information, we also experienced problems during the construction phase due to their mistakes
