We live in Chicago and love bringing our small pup with us wherever we can and for the life of us we couldn't find any dog friendly orchards within a couple hours of the city. Actually had to make reservations in St. Louis to visit a dog friendly orchard 5 hours away. Covid came and ruined those plans but by doing so we stumbled into this gem! Only an hour from Chicago, family run, dog friendly (even have the family dog Darrel wandering around), great apple variety, awesome donuts, cider and plethora of sweets! Covid cautious and super friendly staff! We had a great time! And can't wait to come back next year!

Small place but you can buy the apples per pound. When we went they were $1/ per pound. They have a small play area with crawl throw hay stacks, a digger toy, and a bunch of wood pieces to put your face in for pictures. Apple donuts were good but very heavy, I prefer Edwards donuts but I would Come back for the PYO apples per pound rather than having to buy a whole basket.

a cluster of blackberries hanging from a tree

We went for blackberry picking and were not disappointed! Despite being towards the end of the season, we picked a full bucket in about 20 minutes and could've easily picked another 2! The berries are giant and delicious! We picked about 6.5 lbs for $20, which is a steal compared to the grocery store. We will definitely be back in the fall for apple picking!

Edwards. Fall. They are synonymous to stateliners…read more Edwards has been here since before I was born. I think I visited every year until I moved away. But, if I'm here when Edwards is open, I have to come back and have cider donuts. And today, I was lucky enough to eat one. You should definitely visit if you find yourself in Northern Illinois in the fall. There's no other place like it.

I thought coming here first thing in the morning we would avoid a crowd and goodness I was wrong and loved to see it. My group and I walked through their market first where they have numerous samples to try. There are plenty of options to choose from and it was hard to keep our tab at a reasonable price, haha. My husband and I purchased the fiesta dip, cheese curds, apple cider donuts and the cheese and caramel popcorn. Next our group went apple picking. Prices are pretty standard compared to other spots, they do have a $5 deposit if you are borrowing a basket. If you are able to bring a basket of your own, I highly recommend that. To get to the apple orchard you take a short 'hay ride' which I really enjoyed. It was nice to see different areas of the farm. Staff here is extremely friendly and helpful. I'm officially a fan girl of Edwards and am looking forward to many more apple picking adventures here in the future!

No interest in U-Pick, thank you, though they do this throughout the season (check their instagram for info on when they are allowing U-Pick). It was a fine place but I'm not sure if I would make the trip again. It was an hour drive and we got our strawberries, walked around a bit, and left; all told we were there for maybe 20 minutes or so and I don't think it was worth the drive. I'll probably pick up from a farmer's market instead, unless I'm nearby. They have more than just the produce here, as there's a little gift shop area on the one side of the building that has gift items, children's toys and clothes, and more. They also have a counter where you can order food, and a nice outdoor area to eat at. I will say that what I REALLY appreciated was that it wasn't a farm carnival, as some of them are now with rides and lines and parking that's blocks away. This is a more straightforward farm stand, which is what I wanted.

Quite a bit were on the ground, but there was a good amount still on the trees when I went in mid October. I got the apple cider brat, and it was great! There was plenty of parking out front when I arrived on Monday probably around 10 AM/10:30 AM. There was a small cashier station out front. A lady was short brown hair was explaining how the process works and that you would buy a choice of two different size bags. I chose a smaller bag for $22. I was shown the map and I took a picture of it and headed out to the Orchards. Everything is clearly marked and the paths are also well marked however, if you have any mobility challenges, this might be an issue for you. I don't know if there's any tractors that travel out there. There are wagons for younger kids, etc. I went all the way out past the final orchard to the Honeycrisp. I was surprised to see quite a bit of apple still on the tree. Please follow the directions on how to pick them because you do not want to damage the trees. I got a bunch of varieties which all tasted delicious. I then walked through the little store behind the initial cash register. They have already pre-picked apples, frozen cider donuts, and fresh cider for sale. On the day I arrived. They were already sold out of the fresh cider donuts and they were on their way, but I was already departing the location. Before I left, however, I opted to do the you pick raspberries and cherry tomatoes, which was fun although a bit arduous for the raspberries. Everything actually tasted delicious. I would definitely come back for other activities and of course, supporting local farm. I think this is really good for all ages, etc.. I did see a mix of families and young adults on this visit. Be advised of the closing times I believe it closed at 1 PM on Monday. It was just a fun experience.
