I can see from the other reviews that I did not get special treatment. Apparently that woman is nasty yo EVERYONE, not just me. I went in to get a new string for a guitar, and she went off of me because I didn't use the word Please when I asked if they sold guitar strings? What? She lectured me on how to ask if they sold guitar strings. When I placated her, and said please (in retrospect, I should have just walked out), she answered the question and then said, "Now you need to say Thank You." 0 stars. The service is terrible. The employee is rude and disgusting, and it is no wonder she is working in that raggedy run down shop in NowheresVille, Ohio. I hope she has the town that she deserves. read more

In the 1980's I was a young 8 year old boy just beginning to learn how to play guitar. 35 years later I returned to Valley Music just to look at the place where it all began. To my surprise, I found the same two people behind the counter. 35 years. Thats how much experience they have, and probably more, in lessons, sales, repair and service. They know musical instruments better than any "music-mart" or musical instrument store in the area. Thanks to Valley Music, I was playing in my first band by the age of 13, and am still a working musician. Elitist fucks honestly. Never go here unless you just need some picks really quick or whatever. They yell at you if you touch an instrument without asking. Closer than guitar center though, so I've bought strings on occasion. They have lessons for some instruments, but when I asked if they had singing lessons, the lady (co-owner I think? She has always been the one at the desk. Old woman,) Went on a rant about how young people only want to sound like miley cyrus, and then started going on and on about singers from the 60's or something who I've never heard of, so I had to "uh huh, yeah," my way through like 15 minutes of that shit. Talked endlessly and unprovoked about how bad Gibsons and Fenders are these days, because of something about where they're made. Little shop, little selection (mostly Alvarez which I'd never heard of before). The woman there seemed knowledgeable, but had a rough and rude demeanor. Apparently they do lessons, tune ups, and sales. The major beef that is deserving of the 2 stars is the fact that she straight up lied about the construction of guitar, claiming adamantly that the Alvarez RD26 had a total solid body, when in fact it's totally laminate. Not the broken trust you'd like to see when trust is the thing keeping small music shops alive. read more

If you want a new instrument, go anywhere else. Literally anywhere else. Where do I even start? It is like they do not care about the instruments and do not want to sell them. They hang guitars by a single tuning peg and clearly have dont nothing to maintain their tones. The person behind the counter is astonishingly rude. She told my roommate and I that our "trying time is over" after we had spent a generous maximum of 15 minutes in the store. I am never going back and I discourage anybody looking to grow as a musician from patronizing that store. I was conversing with another customer that was bringing his (wonderfully enthusiastic and curious) daughter to piano lessons. I gave words of encouragement, we were all smiling and happy, and we essentially got kicked out on the spot. It was just embarrassing. read more

DO NOT EVER GO TO VALLEY MUSIC! Walked in to the store to check it out, I usually buy gear from bigger retailers and wanted to try a mom and pop shop of sorts. As soon as me and my friend walk in i spot o red acoustic guitar i liked and decided to test it out. This female older lady actually looked me dead in the eye to tell me IN THE RUDEST TONE I HAVE EVER HEARD "umm excuse me... We're not a pick and play store this isn't guitar center... " astonished at here rudeness i honestly thought it must be a joke...it was no joke..afterwords she moves to my friend or should i say her next victim and he's checking out a lap steel guitar... She turns to him and actually has the gull to say "oh you don't play that...you know you don't play that" (spoiler alert he actually does.) she turns to him and persistently tells him they HE DOESN'T PLAY THE LAP STEEL!! I have a decent relationship with one of the lesson instructors over at the store, and him, and him alone, is the only reason why I am giving this store another star. I got a dirty look from the woman who works there for simply walking in and BROWSING. I don't want to rip on this store for being local, but, my word, it was uncomfortable just to look around. For a store without a website and to be treated bad for simply exploring their inventory, they certainly don't want anything to do with you browsing or exploring people out there. If you decide to venture in, don't outright state your intentions of simply checking out their wares. In short, go for lessons and nothing more. Randy Sobel is the guy to look for. read more

Great people with great experience. Not deep on product but their music teachers are great for both young beginners and older pros.

I was very disappointed in the service at valley music. I turned in my flute for a minor repair. They never gave me an estimated time, they didn't call to tell me it was finished for four weeks, and when I went to pick up my instrument it was still broken & completely tarnished. They tried to over charge me and they acted like I was inconveniencing them for coming into the store. Not a good experience at all! read more
