I should have read the reviews. I just bought 45 acres to build 9 houses here in Grants Pass. For a smart equipment rental business owner this would be an opportunity to make money off of a $5.5 million project. But instead, this guy made sure I don't come back. First, he charges me twice the delivery fee as everyone else in the area. Then, his driver drops off the backhoe a mile away from the construction area and doesn't even call to say its there. I have a crew on the clock sitting around waiting for 2 hours. I finally call in to see where the backhoe is and with a rude tone he tells me its dropped off. No apologies for not calling when I specifically asked to be called by the driver. This is a CAT backhoe I rented. I have a 25 year CAT operator on this job. As he gets on the backhoe, the joystick settings are in John Deer mode which is the opposite of CAT operations. The manual was for a newer CAT and did not have the correct instruction on how to change it to CAT mode. I called in to get his help and he offered no help. Unfortunately we only managed to get a little work done since the CAT operator had to work in reverse mode. No compensation offered. Monday morning I sit and wait for the driver to show up to get the backhoe after I get a call from them saying to bring it back to the street. After 2 hours of sitting and waiting, I called to see where the driver is and he says, "we'll get there when we'll get there". The following day I call to see if he has refunded the deposit and he said he has not yet checked the backhoe. He said he was on his way to do it now. 2 days later, still no call and he does not answer his phone. Take my advise and DO NOT RENT HERE! Its time to teach this old timer how I deal with guys like him. The charges are disputed and I will hire guys to stand outside his entrance with signs that say don't rent here. They said we damaged the equipment which we kept under video surveillance 24/7 and had the proof it was never damaged by us. Like many others I wish I had read the reviews before renting from this company, Read the reviews on Google too, over (60 unhappy customers they all can't be wrong) equipment is in disrepair and if there is a problem with equipment it is not their fault. Terrible. This place is the most crooked, untrustworthy, and ignorant places we have ever gave our money too. The owner of he business decided to lie about every phone call and in person conversation we had. Miles (the owner) decided to call my significant other a "mother f*cker" over a phone call. Not the type of customer service you would want anywhere. After the hydrolic line broke, they decided not to call us back or help us fix it. After three hours of waiting, we decide to fix it ourselves.. They still think that the rotten line on the machine was our fault and charged another day on top of a week. I wish I would have looked at Yelp before Renting from this place. He didn't show us how to use the equipment once we got it home it was not operable. The business already closed within 2hrs of bringing it home so I couldn't get a replacement, when I took back the equipment he said he would make it right & he immediately jumps on the defense and starts yelling. He charged my card for the broken equipment and refused to give me a full refund. I was willing to eat the rental charge for 2 days but not pay for the broken equipment parts! WORST COMPANY EVER !!!! NEGATIVE STARS !!! From the very beginning it was the worst customer service I've ever dealt with. The front desk Was rude and abrasive and is as much a part of there scam operation as the crooked owner. They charged me just under $1000 for a backhoe for two days and another thousand dollar deposit. I was told that I would be refunded any hours that I didn't use as a 2 day rental would Equal 16 hours. They then dropped off a DAMAGED backhoe and they said they would get a repair guy out ASAP. I cancelled the next afternoon when nobody ever showed and then the owner showed up to repair the tractor after I cancelled. When I didn't agree that I had damaged the tractor he started yelling and told me he was taking the tractor. He took it outside my gate and locked it. Then he came and got it later. I told him that I would have had no problem taking responsibility for a cracked line if I did it as it would not have been a big deal but he wouldn't have it. Ultimately they kept all my money and when I went into the office the rude front desk guy said he couldn't help me that it was something the owner was probably working on. I used the backhoe like under a hr before I noticed the damage. Ultimately because of pressure from the credit card company because of my credit card dispute they refunded under $600 of my deposit. So ultimately they rented me a tractor with a broken hydronic line that I used for less than an hour (they claimed under 4 which was a lie) and charged me around $1400. After all this happened is when I started reading all the reviews of all the scams that they were getting away with on unsuspecting customers. This is a straight criminal company that should be getting charged with FRAUD!!! read more

The only reason l gave them 1 star is because l couldn't give zero! These crooks rented me a compactor. I unloaded it out of the truck, slid the throttle lever over to start it and it busted! I took it back the same day since l couldn't even start it and they charged me for the day rental as well as the repairs!!! Not only do l get set a day back on my project, they charge me for a tool that l don't even get to start as well as the repairs!!! I rented a forklift from their Grants Pass location. The deal was all preset for a one day rental with delivery and pick up. Miles Comstock, the owner actually delivered the forklift.They drilled into me to call when I was finished to "stop the clock". I was finished at 4:40pm so called the office, spoke to an employee, let him know I was finished, and we agreed re where I would 'park' the forklift so they could pick it up at their convenience. No pick up on Tuesday, so I called again and they said they'd get to it. Sometime late Wednesday afternoon it was picked up. A few weeks later my credit card bill arrived and they had billed me for 3 days, not one. An extra $338!! I reached out on 5 different occasions, both by phone and in person. I was having no luck, so I typed up the whole timeline, drove to the yard, and low and behold, Mr Comstock was there. I said, "remember me?" To which he replied "ya, I Fxxxing remember you. You never called, you Fxxxing Axxholes are all the same...". So I simply turned around without replying and left with my written timeline in hand. I felt I had no other recourse but to file a small claims matter, so I did. Because the main address is in Ashland, I had to drive to Jackson County to pay the Sheriff to serve the papers. Long story short, our court date finally arrived, and sparing you all of the gory details, I prevailed and won a full judgement for the $338 and the fees I had to pay for filing and serving the lawsuit. So I'm telling my story to hopefully save others the heartache of dealing with this lying, cheating, unscrupulous business and it's owner. I would STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU DO BUSINESS ELSEWHERE! Things have obviously not changed... and I too would like to post minus10 stars if I could. Last Saturday I went to the store to rent a reach fork lift and Michael was on duty. He was pleasant, kind and courteous. He said he could have the lift delivered on Monday at 9:30am for $495 including delivery. (I was quoted $455 the day before by someone on the phone, but thought, okay maybe that guy made a mistake). Before I completed the contract, Michael said a newer and cheaper unit might be available on Monday, and he would call the renters at 8am on Monday to see if it was going to be returned and then call me. I could then complete the deal and at the latest have it or the original one by noon. He was going to call me right after 8am to let me know. I spent the weekend building a platform, hiring helpers from a construction crew and arranging for them to be there Monday morning, which they were. Monday at 8:15am I tried to reach Michael at Valley Equipment, but no answer. At 9:15 after several no answers, I looked up a different number for them and heard someone answer and then hang up. This happened multiple times until I finally got someone to answer when I said "Are you there?" They said "Who is this?" I said "Is this Valley Equipment Rental?" And he said "Yeah, what do you want!"....." I asked about the returning reach and he said "It's not coming back!" I asked about delivery of the one on the lot, and he said I'd have to come in and sign a contract. Very strange, fragmented conversation, and I asked for Michael, but he said he wasn't there, which was weird since Michael said he definitely would be there Monday at 7:45am. Well I went in, and when I arrived nobody was in the parking lot, there were no customers in the store, the lift I saw on Sat. was on the lot, and there was one guy (the owner, Myles) behind the counter. I said, "Good morning" and waited for a response, but didn't get one. I said, "I'm the one who wants to rent the reach lift and Michael said it might be back today." He said, "it's not coming back!!" I said, "Okay.... I need to rent the one on the lot out here then. I made a reservation for it last Saturday..." He said, "When do you need it?" The conversation seemed very strange, short and sort of nasty from him, but I continued, "Right now, since I reserved it for 9am this morning..." He quickly burst out with, "WELL THAT AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN!" and I asked "Why not?" "I'M BUSY!" he said emphatically. I looked around the store and lot briefly thinking it doesn't look that way, and then I said in sort of a matter of fact way, "You're busy...."Well things went even stranger then as he immediately began a tirade at me saying, "I'M NOT RENTING TO YOU, GET THE F--- OUTTA' MY STORE. YOU THINK YOU CAN COP AN ATTITUDE WITH ME, I'LL NEVER F---ing RENT TO YOU!!! He continued his PSYCHOTIC episode for a minute or so, and I could still hear him yelling as I shut the front door. This situation cost me time, labor and emotionally (but I'm lucky compared to some of these folks). Someone like this should be forced out of business and you can help do that by not doing business there!!!!! read more

We rented a compactor for DG from the Grants Pass location - got it home worked for a couple of minutes and then wouldn't work any longer - we continued to try and get it started even took videos to show them. Returned it and they gave us a second one. Again got it home and worked for a couple of minutes then did the very same thing. Again we took videos - we returned it - they accused us of doctoring the videos - Right just what we want to spend our time on - and setting us back two days on the project. They not only charged us for the first day they also charged us for the second - $118 for NOTHING - They are renting this equipment knowing full well it doesn't work then charging people then accusing them of being at fault - what a SCAM read more

I wanted to rent a front loader tractor to move dirt. When I went there he told me it was 95 hour to deliver and 210 to rent. The prices changed two or three times. he charged my card once for 504.30 and then put a hold for 504.20 saying I do that so it doesn't look like i charged card twice. "Don't worry only one comes out the other is if tractor doesn't come back all together. Both charges came out. I said it should only take one hour to deliver or pick up and he said I KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE IT WILL TAKE 1 1/2 EACH WAY. WRONG HE WAS SO RUDE. Tractor was 2 hours late only 1/2 tank fuel, he said o'well you must be on incline. WRONG AGAIN. It broke down two hours later he finally showed up PISSED OFF saying I did things, WRONG AGAIN. Then ran out of fuel I went and got fuel and had to use jumper cables and he showed up, not saying anything nice but how I must of done something to use a whole tank already. "HOW" I called the office 9 times on day of rental because was wrong. 14 times on Friday to get tractor and get it repaired to use, and over 15 times Monday and Tuesday to find out when he would be refunding my deposit. I finally talked to Miles at 4:55 pm on the 21st of April He started yelling saying we have a problem. I see the tire is flat today, I said well it wasn't when it was at my house or when you picked up. It wouldn't start without shorting starter across, I SAID NO KIDDING YOU TOLD ME ABOUT THAT AND SHOWED ME HOW TO DO IT SAYING YOU KNEW ABOUT STARTER STICKING. Now he says i broke battery box bracket and burnt up starter. He came out once to fix battery and found all loose and disconnected, SAYING oops must of got over looked at shop, SORRY. Valley Equipment Rentals It is too bad negative stars are not available. I don't like to post negative stuff about local business because I figure maybe they were just having a bad day when I transacted with them, but these guys are crooks! I rented a tractor with a tiller for a one day job. Booked it out weeks ahead of time, to be picked up at a specific date and time. Tractor was not ready, had to come back the next day @ 8AM, when I was told it would be good to go. Employee did not show up to open up until about 8:30, and the tractor was still not ready, was not loaded, and the tiller was not connected. Once that got done-and it took awhile eating into my day, I hauled the tractor home only to find a flat tire when I unloaded it. I fixed that because that was the quicker option. Headed out to do some tilling, and within 2 minutes the PTO driveshaft broke. There was ZERO grease on the U-joint and the zerk fitting was clearly missing for some time. Loaded everything back up to return and they refused to refund my money! After a couple weeks of back and forth, I finally had to simply dispute the Credit card charge. With the pictures I fortunately took of the lack of any maintenance, the CC company sided with me and reversed the charge. Then, a couple months later, I get a letter from a collections agency!!!! WTH? Of course I am fighting that and expect to win, but these guys are crooks and FRAUDSTERS! DO NOT DO BUSINESS THERE! What a colossal waste of time.... read more

This was the closest place for me to rent a flooring stapler but had I known what I know now, I would have driven an extra 30 minutes to go to another place. The equipment I rented was in poor repair and I had to have the stapler serviced after 2 hours of use. I took it in and waited while the "repair" was done and after about 30 minutes of additional use the stapler jamed again. I then performed an operation that entailed tightening the loose driver screws which jammed it. This was an easy repair that should have been the first time. When I returned the tool and wanted to share how I fixed his tool for him he went absoluly ballistic and threatened to shoot me! Wow. The owner is an idiot. I rented a machine and when I got it to the job it would not start. I got out my tool box and I fixed it myself. It kinda ran about 10 minutes till fuel began pouring out of the carburetor. I was done messing with it at this point. When I returned it he refused to refund me and a big yelling match followed. The only reason I chose one star is because there was not a choice for no stars. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!! Rented a lift for the hired painter to use and the lift did not hold a charge. This meant the guy on the clock could not perform, he is charging for time loss. when we called V.E.R., they said they don't know what could be wrong with it, we will come and look after hours. How does that solve my problem right now??? it doesn't. These guys don't care about you the customer, they are short handed and they leave you hanging with their junk equipment. RUN to a different rental company, there are many others who do a much better job with much better equipment!!! These guys have no values or business ethics!!! These people are thief!!!!!! First he give me a trailer that had a flat tire on the way home than he said he'll refund me for the new tire that I had to replace. The jumping jack dies after 10 minutes of use. He declines the refund at return, he calls the cops on me for trespassing, declines to give me my receipts and I found out that he over charged my card. Sounds like I should have read the reviews before going here!!! They rented us broken equipment and are now trying to say we broke it. Then almost immediately charged my card taking everything in my bank account. I asked a few mechanics and they said the part wouldn't even cost 10% of what they took out of my account! I'm sure that if I had had more $ in there they would have taken more! My bank is currently fighting the unauthorized charges to my account! These people are the worst. The only reason they are in business is that they have a monopoly for the area....DRIVE FURTHER. The first time I used them, I drove 40 min each way with a broken bobcat. Then, I tried them again, and the person I hired caused exterior damage to an excavator. I payed them what they asked for (around 2000 I believe), then they called a week later and told me I owed 3000 more, and that they would have me served by a sheriff with papers in September (This was during April... ). I rented a skidsteer from Miles, I got it out to the location and within 15 minutes the tread ripped off the track as I was turning around with the second load. The business card said they were open 7 days a week, so I called right away, but no one answered. I kept calling all weekend, still no answer. I then called the company that made the machine and described what happened, what I was carrying, what I was driving on, ect. The mechanic at Bobcat told me it was not my fault, and that it was a worn out track. I was forced to hire a crew to do the job with wheelbarrows. Monday morning we contacted Miles, and he seemed convinced that it was my fault without even seeing what happened. He threatened to charge me extra for him to come out and fix it, and sent out his employee to pick it up. Now he can't be contacted, and my credit card has not been reimbursed.
