    I passed!
    Tawny W.

Where do I start?? I was a CNA in another state. I went out of the field for 5 years and then had to take the California CNA test. I had to also retake the course since mine had expired. I have experience in this field so I can definitely see the high degree of quality in the CNA education you will receive here. I started with Josie December of 2017. A lot of life stuff happened and I had to take many months to complete my clinical training. I then missed my first state exam due to illness. Josie and Yoli were always so responsive, caring, and understanding. What I loved about my clinical experience is that they really took the resident's well-being to heart. It's so easy to get burned out by this field and forget there's another person on the other end that you're taking care. They take their work so seriously and WANT YOU to succeed. They do everything they can to get you to succeed and be prepared for the state exam. Listen to what they say! You WILL pass! Thank you Vallejo Nursing School! I accomplished something quite big today and it was a major step in the right direction towards my goal of being a doctor. Thank you so much!

After doing my research as a diligent pre-med, Touro has an osteopathic medical school with other graduate programs as well. Interested in their school, my friend and I scheduled a shadowing opportunity with their outreach admin/faculty. One of the shadowing opportunities they offer is for the OMM Lab (osteopathic manipulative medicine) where one can sit in their medical school class alongside their real medical students and learn! I shadowed one of their cranial OMM labs, and it was fascinating especially since I was into neurobio/psych. Their professor was very thorough in explaining the various ways on how to locate cranial anatomy and how to connect with the patient. Each student rotated and had a chance to practice OMM and experience it as well. From the time of initial contact to the end of my shadowing, Touro faculty and students were very accommodating and positively receptive. Big shoutouts to my medical student mentors, Jessie and Yvonne, who showed me the ropes and Jessie even performed OMM on me! Great time with wonderful people!

First let me say that I am SO happy that Vallejo has a JC!!!…read more It's conveniently located by the automalls off of the freeway. They don't have a huge campus but it's big enough for me. "40,000 square feet of classrooms, science and computer labs, an auditorium and a mmuli-use facility serving the physical education, dance and theatre programs." You're able to take the assessment tests here on select day and they have the financial aid help here also. You still have to purchase your textbooks at the main campus (Fairfield) bookstore or online @ http://www.solano.edu/bookstore/ I've taken off a star for two reasons. Firstly, the changes made to registering for classes is beyond confusing. It wasn't easy before and now it's so frustrating that had I not figured it out I might have just said forget it and not gone back to school. After tinkering and clicking here and there and demanding to be walked through a couple things over the phone (hehe I'm kinda mean but I need help and I'm not afraid to say it) I was registered for classes and able to figure out what I needed to do to recieve financial aid. Ok, my other gripe.. The soda machine!! I don't drink soda I drink water. I think that BOTH machines should have water available in the case that one stops working (which it did) there will be another machine available to get water from. OR how about the school can equip themselves with a refridgerator stocked with waters to sell to the students to that the school can make a little more money. I was VERY upset when I put my money in the machine (inside the school) and it just took it.. so why I put more money in in the hopes that MAYBE it might give me the water I so desired I have no idea.. And when I asked about it I was told that an "out of order" sign was being printed as we spoke. I asked for compensation and I was told there was nothing that could be done. I suggested that when the company comes to fix it maybe they could set aside a few waters for those of us who wasted our money in there and I could recieve a voucher.. no such luck. I was told I should write a letter but instead I figure I can bring my own water. Soda isn't assisting the american obesity problem but I'm only a student so what do I know?

I genuinely like attending Solano Community College. The campus environment is great, and I've had…read morea positive experience overall with the classes I've taken here. However, there are some major administrative and counseling bottlenecks that desperately need to be addressed. First, the certificate processing timeline is incredibly frustrating. Even if you have completed all the required courses numerous semesters prior, you are left waiting for more than 4 months just for a Certificate of Achievement to be processed. For students trying to jump into the workforce or move forward with their careers, this kind of delay is unacceptable. Second, dealing with the counseling department can be a real headache. Many of the counselors seem to have very little knowledge about specific program requirements, and you often get the run-around when you're simply trying to get clear answers to achieve your educational goals. You really have to do your own heavy lifting and research to make sure you're on the right track. I want to love SCC, but the school really needs to step up its administrative efficiency and better train its counseling staff to support students who are doing the work to graduate.

One of my cousins, a woman, was just Honorably Discharged from the US Coast Guard after four years of enlisted Active Duty Service right out of high school. She asked us if we would attend her first visit to Cal Maritime. She had chosen to use her Veterans Educational Benefits at Cal Maritime during her inactive US Coast Guard Reserve four-year duty because the average Marine Transportation major who graduates from a school in the United States earns about $82,250 per year during the starting years of their career. Graduates with bachelor's degrees in this field make 107% more than the average college graduate salary of $39,802. Cal Maritime has the highest employment rate in the CSU system - 94% within three months of graduation. 94% of Cal Maritime's graduates go directly into for-profit companies, non-profit organizations, government agencies, or graduate schools while 8% graduate as commissioned officers in the military. My cousin plans to graduate Cal Maritime as a commissioned officer in the US Navy in the Navy Supply Corps and have the Navy pay for her graduate degree in Cybersecurity as she plans to spend 26 years in the Navy for a total of 30 years of Active Duty and four years of Reserve US military Service with her years with the Coast Guard. Upon retirement from the Navy, she plans to go US Navy Reserve while doing a second career in US government like the Federal Maritime Commission or private sector. California State University Maritime Academy, a prestigious small public school located in the city of Vallejo, California earned the #2 spot in the 2021 rankings for Marine Transportation degrees. Marine Transport majors who obtain their bachelor's from Cal Maritime start with an average salary of $90,700. The Marine Transportation (MT) major provides a broad understanding of the maritime industry, as well as navigation and ship-handling skills. Coursework and three training cruises prepare one to be a mate on a large ship, tug, or ferry, or to work in a variety of shoreside positions such as port and terminal management, stevedoring or marine sales. In addition to the Bachelor's Degree, one will earn a license from the U.S. Coast Guard as a Third Mate. This license allows one to sail on U.S. ships on any ocean, regardless of tonnage, horsepower and size. America's Maritime History spans the centuries from Native American and Viking maritime activities before Columbus through today's maritime enterprise. "The maritime history of shipping in America is built on the work and help of the American Merchant Marine. The first war that an organized United States Merchant Marine took part in was the American Revolutionary War. The first Merchant Marine action in the war took place on June 12, 1775 when a group of Machias, Maine citizens boarded and captured a British schooner, the warship HMS Margaretta. No industry has been more vital to the success of our country than that of America's maritime industry. The industry provides jobs for hundreds of thousands of Maritime Americans in every corner of our nation--from longshoremen in ports along our four seacoasts, to towboat operators navigating the Mississippi, to shipbuilders in East Coast dry docks, to the men and women who crew American-flag vessels of all types. The American maritime industry moves cargo and America's troops around the world in far greater volume, with far greater efficiency, than any other transportation mode. As a first line of defense, it also proudly helps ensure greater homeland security. The maritime industry transports commercial goods more cost effectively than trucks and rails--while providing the most environmentally sound mode of transportation. The industry's humanitarian role is one that paints a positive picture of America worldwide, as it distributes food to the world's poor and responds to global emergencies. Breastfeeding was a disaster, from my low milk supply, baby being tongue tied, mastitis, the wrong size flanges for the breast pump that Kaiser gave me. Lisa helped me with homeopathic remedies, support, and information about medications that others have found useful (she does not prescribe or give specific medication dosing advice for prescribed medications). I don't know that I will be able to breastfeed, but it isn't for lack of trying, and Lisa made me feel better, that I have done everything humanly possible and if I can't it's not because I didn't give it my all. I highly recommend using her service. She is responsive, kind, reassuring, and just a lovely person who wants you and your baby to be healthy and strong. She loves babies and respects mamas. What could be better?

I also knew that I wanted to have a natural birth and that doulas could be a great assistance in reaching this goal. I spent a lot of time emailing doulas, a lot of them. Lisa was only one of a couple I heard back from. She responded promptly and was willing to work around our busy/late night schedule to set up an interview. Once we interviewed, I knew that I wanted to hire her. My husband was more apprehensive and had difficulty spending the money when he felt he would be helpful and not need a doula. However, he knew how much it meant to me and went with it. Throughout the pregnancy, we received so much useful information from Lisa. Any questions I had, she was always available to answer them. Towards the end of my pregnancy I had high blood pressure and my doctor wanted to induce me because of concerns regarding my blood pressure. I knew that it would be very difficult to have a natural birth with being induced but felt confident that given the support, I would be able to do it. I ended up having three different types of inducement measures, cervidil, a balloon, and pitocin. My labor was incredibly difficult, with a recommendation of an epidural discussed twice and a c-section discussed once. Lisa saved me from having to have any of this done. She suggested two specific positions to utilize while having contractions that are never done in hospitals. My doctor worked with Lisa and was willing to have Lisa try them with me. These positions saved me from having a c-section and made my goal of having a natural birth possible. She was not only available and there for me during my pregnancy and labor & delivery but afterwards as well. I have asked so many questions regarding breastfeeding and other things and she has always been available for me. She responds promptly to me and is constantly checking in on me (my baby was born 8 days ago). I cannot say enough positive things about Lisa. Hire her as your doula, it will be the best decision you can make. Following the delivery, my somewhat skeptical husband prior to labor and delivery said that it was worth all of the money we spent. He said hiring Lisa was one of the best decisions we made during this process. That, to me, says it all. Hire Lisa.

It's mesmerizing!…read more It comes with the lamp stand which has a pretty long cord, two color changing light bulbs with a remote, and the attachment to hang the tentacles. (Some assembly required.) Attaching the tentacles can be tricky once you factor in the space the light bulb takes up. I ended up not attaching all of them and storing the rest as spares in case something happens. I would lay down a towel or assemble over a soft surface in case you drop a tentacle. FYI Jelly fish lamp pick up is typically two weeks after your session. Most other projects are available for pick up 16-48 hours after. I messed up and came too early because I was very excited (about 1 week after the class). Douglass went out of his way to disassemble one of his premade jelly fish pieces for sale to give me the lamp stand so I could take it home there. That's outstanding service! But I also wanted to help others so this doesn't inconvenience him again... Highly recommend taking a glass blowing class with Douglass or a member of his team before he retires! (If he discontinues the jelly fish class I hope they replace it with a workshop like Build a Bear that lets you customize a jelly lamp from premade parts available and help you assemble it there in the shop. That way you can see exactly what you're getting, potentially get colors that can't be made in the class like the dark blues, have different textured tentacles, and have the satisfaction of taking your piece home right away!)
