Learning, college and cool; oh, my! We had one heck of an enjoyable visit to Cal Maritime which is a public school that more than adequately does day in and day out what they are in business to do, and that is seldom an easy accomplishment. One of my cousins, a woman, was just Honorably Discharged from the US Coast Guard after four years of enlisted Active Duty Service right out of high school. She asked us if we would attend her first visit to Cal Maritime. She had chosen to use her Veterans Educational Benefits at Cal Maritime during her inactive US Coast Guard Reserve four-year duty because the average Marine Transportation major who graduates from a school in the United States earns about $82,250 per year during the starting years of their career. Graduates with bachelor's degrees in this field make 107% more than the average college graduate salary of $39,802. Cal Maritime has the highest employment rate in the CSU system - 94% within three months of graduation. 94% of Cal Maritime's graduates go directly into for-profit companies, non-profit organizations, government agencies, or graduate schools while 8% graduate as commissioned officers in the military. My cousin plans to graduate Cal Maritime as a commissioned officer in the US Navy in the Navy Supply Corps and have the Navy pay for her graduate degree in Cybersecurity as she plans to spend 26 years in the Navy for a total of 30 years of Active Duty and four years of Reserve US military Service with her years with the Coast Guard. Upon retirement from the Navy, she plans to go US Navy Reserve while doing a second career in US government like the Federal Maritime Commission or private sector. California State University Maritime Academy, a prestigious small public school located in the city of Vallejo, California earned the #2 spot in the 2021 rankings for Marine Transportation degrees. Marine Transport majors who obtain their bachelor's from Cal Maritime start with an average salary of $90,700. The Marine Transportation (MT) major provides a broad understanding of the maritime industry, as well as navigation and ship-handling skills. Coursework and three training cruises prepare one to be a mate on a large ship, tug, or ferry, or to work in a variety of shoreside positions such as port and terminal management, stevedoring or marine sales. In addition to the Bachelor's Degree, one will earn a license from the U.S. Coast Guard as a Third Mate. This license allows one to sail on U.S. ships on any ocean, regardless of tonnage, horsepower and size. America's Maritime History spans the centuries from Native American and Viking maritime activities before Columbus through today's maritime enterprise. "The maritime history of shipping in America is built on the work and help of the American Merchant Marine. The first war that an organized United States Merchant Marine took part in was the American Revolutionary War. The first Merchant Marine action in the war took place on June 12, 1775 when a group of Machias, Maine citizens boarded and captured a British schooner, the warship HMS Margaretta. No industry has been more vital to the success of our country than that of America's maritime industry. The industry provides jobs for hundreds of thousands of Maritime Americans in every corner of our nation--from longshoremen in ports along our four seacoasts, to towboat operators navigating the Mississippi, to shipbuilders in East Coast dry docks, to the men and women who crew American-flag vessels of all types. The American maritime industry moves cargo and America's troops around the world in far greater volume, with far greater efficiency, than any other transportation mode. As a first line of defense, it also proudly helps ensure greater homeland security. The maritime industry transports commercial goods more cost effectively than trucks and rails--while providing the most environmentally sound mode of transportation. The industry's humanitarian role is one that paints a positive picture of America worldwide, as it distributes food to the world's poor and responds to global emergencies. And, the industry stands as a primary driver of trade in one of the world's largest economies." https://www.google.com/search?q=Veterans+Educational+Benefits+cal+maritime&rlz=1C1GCEA_enUS878US878&ei=0g4_YvDiD7ifkPIP2-mBoA0&ved=0ahUKEwjwk5__6uP2AhW4D0QIHdt0ANQQ4dUDCA4&uact=5&oq=Veterans+Educational+Benefits+cal+maritime&gs_lcp=Cgdnd3Mtd2l6EAMyBQghEKABMgUIIRCrAjIFCCEQqwI6BwgAEEcQsAM6BQgAEIAEOgYIABAWEB46CAgAEBYQChAeOgUIABCGAzoICCEQFhAdEB5KBAhBGABKBAhGGABQhANY1x5gvyJoAXABeACAAXuIAdIKkgEDNi43mAEAoAEByAEIwAEB&sclient=gws-wiz http://catalog.csum.edu/content.php?catoid=8&navoid=499 https://www.csum.edu/financial-aid/veterans.html https://www.csum.edu/registrar/veterans.html

What is that?! 2) They don't sell textbooks! So you need to travel to Fairfield to get them...along with other supplies that you need. 3) For a new building, they should've incorporated some "green" elements. The school I attend regularly (Ohlone College) just opened up a new campus in Newark and it's LEED certified (look it up). It opened up early this year, too. So...hmm...idk, I think it could've been constructed better. 4) Oh, and they don't sell real food.

First let me say that I am SO happy that Vallejo has a JC!!!…read more It's conveniently located by the automalls off of the freeway. They don't have a huge campus but it's big enough for me. "40,000 square feet of classrooms, science and computer labs, an auditorium and a mmuli-use facility serving the physical education, dance and theatre programs." You're able to take the assessment tests here on select day and they have the financial aid help here also. You still have to purchase your textbooks at the main campus (Fairfield) bookstore or online @ http://www.solano.edu/bookstore/ I've taken off a star for two reasons. Firstly, the changes made to registering for classes is beyond confusing. It wasn't easy before and now it's so frustrating that had I not figured it out I might have just said forget it and not gone back to school. After tinkering and clicking here and there and demanding to be walked through a couple things over the phone (hehe I'm kinda mean but I need help and I'm not afraid to say it) I was registered for classes and able to figure out what I needed to do to recieve financial aid. Ok, my other gripe.. The soda machine!! I don't drink soda I drink water. I think that BOTH machines should have water available in the case that one stops working (which it did) there will be another machine available to get water from. OR how about the school can equip themselves with a refridgerator stocked with waters to sell to the students to that the school can make a little more money. I was VERY upset when I put my money in the machine (inside the school) and it just took it.. so why I put more money in in the hopes that MAYBE it might give me the water I so desired I have no idea.. And when I asked about it I was told that an "out of order" sign was being printed as we spoke. I asked for compensation and I was told there was nothing that could be done. I suggested that when the company comes to fix it maybe they could set aside a few waters for those of us who wasted our money in there and I could recieve a voucher.. no such luck. I was told I should write a letter but instead I figure I can bring my own water. Soda isn't assisting the american obesity problem but I'm only a student so what do I know?

Justin: If it were not for Justin being at Heald College when it closed I would have never heard of this school. He also gave me information about the school that had me really excited to come and be a student here. 2. Tina: Tina has been amazing and helped make sure that I had everything that I needed and stayed on top of everything. Especially on reminding me about my make-up hours. 3. Melissa: I have not really spent as much time with Melissa as I have Tina but every time I have asked her for help she was always there. Especially when I had assignments were due and the printer in the lab was not working, she would come in and fix it like it's nothing. Such a life-saver and a grade saver! 4. Nicole: Even though she is not at this location anymore she still had did a lot for me especially making sure that my paperwork for my stuff was done. She is one of the few people that have called me to give me reminders about things that needed to be done or that were going to be due. 5. Carrie: Is another person that is not here anymore but she helped keep me on my game and Took care of anything for me that I needed help with. It sucks that she's not here to hear this but she is truly amazing. 6. Carla: I have not really done too many things with Karla but she was still very nice and had answers to questions that others did not or at least were not sure of. And she would always say hi to me when she seen me. 7. Mrs. Heather: Awesomely amazing teacher!!!! Made class very enjoyable and fun to learn. There are a lot of good memories that I will never forget. She was like one of us just not as a student haha. She also never gave up on any of us and would do anything she could to help us and make sure that we all passed the class. 8. Mrs. Raynor: Another awesomely amazing teacher who loved her students and loved teaching us all. I will say her class felt a little harder but it was still very enjoyable and fun. Just like Mrs. Heather she never gave up on her students and would do anything that she could to make sure that we all pass her class. Overall everyone here at this school is amazing. Thank you for making education fun and exciting. I really enjoyed my time here, and who knows maybe I'll come back and do another program! I love you all.

Not even a month into it and I was regretting and dragging my feet to in everyday. My 1st instructor taught use more about his personal life then the actual subject. Didnt follow the way he was supposed to teach us whiched caused a big issue for those who were going to go into the next class. He passed everyone regardless. Had a motor project and passed us all even though none of us got the motor to work. He didnt really even try to get it running. You don't learn in the traditional way. You don't learn from A-Z. They will throw you in wherever the class is currently at. So you maybe learning the very end of the book before you even learn the beginning of the book which is bad if you are completely new to the subject and don't have any knowledge or experience. You don't jump into HVAC right away which is normal. You'll be doing electrical theory but my instructor didn't even go over HVAC electrical. I was learning more how to be an electrician then HVAC technician. Once I got into HVAC I was told in was going to take my certification test at the end of that month. Which is beyond stupid. They gave me a study packet to help prepare me for the test. By the time I had to take the test I failed of course but wasnt worried. Was told i had 3 attempts to take the test. The very next day after I took the 1st test i was told to take it again, and again I failed. The day after the 2nd test I was told to take it again and use the study packet because the head of the campus wants us to pass. Probably to give him a bonus or something like that. Well I'm not going to pay them to cheat on my future. I tried to talk them but the head of the campus "wasn't in today". I tired to call and kept going in to talk to him about why they wanted me to cheat. But kept getting the same response. I called them and told them I was dropping out because the cheating was the last straw. Then it seemed like they actually cared about my problem. I finally got calls back from the school and told them why I was leaving but the lady seemed not to really be paying attention and wanted me to go in and sit down with the head of the campus. I wasn't going to waste my time with them anymore. Said in was going to go in but didn't. I told them about it and they didn't seem to care until I left.

This review is for the EKG Technician Continuing Education course, Fall 2025, Concord Campus…read more The EKG Technician course is supposed to be an 11.5-week, 60-hour in-person program with instruction and hands-on lab experience, but the reality has been far from what was advertised, and instead a huge disappointment and waste of time. The start of class was delayed a week with no reason and no proactive communication about logistics - I had to reach out the first day of instruction just to find out which classroom to go to and who the instructor would be. Since then, multiple class sessions were canceled or ended early, and we had only about five hours of actual classroom time instead of the nearly 28 hours we should have had by the end of week 4 (minus four canceled classes). The content itself was very disappointing - mostly reading slides (which were a recap of the textbook) and watching YouTube videos with very limited access to equipment or lab practice (which seemed to be an administrative issue). There was no effort to make up missed time, and it's hard to see how students would reach the advertised 60 hours of instruction, let alone pass the course or pass state certification. The instructor appeared to have good intentions, but it seems this last-minute staffing decision left everyone unprepared, including the instructor themself. Attempts to contact Continuing Education for help went unanswered, which is incredibly frustrating for those of us who paid full fees (over $1,600) and commute long distances to attend. To make matters worse, the Concord campus at that time had poor (no) lighting on the walkway from the parking lot, which is definitely a safety concern for evening classes. Overall, this experience has been unprofessional and discouraging. CSU East Bay Continuing Education really needs to address the lack of communication, instructional quality, equipment availability, and basic campus safety before continuing to offer it. BTW, check your local community college instead if similar courses are offered, it will be A LOT cheaper ($46/unit for Cali residents)!

It's next to a state park or in the middle of it. So, I came here because I thought it was closer. When I was in grad school before, there was a campus in Walnut Creek. It was in the middle of downtown and was quite easily accessible. But this place isn't. And if there is traffic (and there was) look out! I am glad that I don't have to come here regularly because I'd have to get out of work a good two hours before class to get there on time and then drive all of the way home after class. They aren't open on Friday or Saturdays. But I was able to pick up my books. I was going to look for some school swag but they didn't really have any. In the future, I will have my books sent to me to avoid having to come all of the way out here to pick up two books.
