*** 6 stars if we could... *** We're berthed in Brooklyn Basin, Oakland with a 30 ft sloop. It had been a while since our last haul out and we were never going back to Svendsens in Richmond and decided to cruise farther north to Vallejo to try out Vallejo Marine Craft (from some research and good advice from others in our area). They have new ownership and are doing things the right way these days. Mary is fabulous to work with and is very hands on with the whole process. She is extremely responsive and makes it apparent that she is always available for advice and direction with any logistics surrounding the process. I have never experienced such personalized service from a boat yard before. Kerry is a wealth of knowledge and is always available for some more hands-on assistance in the yard. He knows just about everything there is to know about boats and usually has the answer (mechanical stuff goes to Jimmy, and whenever you smell the sweet cigar smell in the shop, you know Gregory is around shopping anything you could possibly need). Between the two of them, we felt confident and comfortable with the work on our boat (bottom job, minor blister repairs, rudder rebuild, sail drive servicing, prop replacement, etc.) COMMUNICATION IS KEY - and these guys have it down to a science. Bottom line : Mary and Kerry (& team) actually made this experience enjoyable. As DIYer's, what originally was to be a 4/5 day simple bottom job turned into 25 days on the hard, and you know what - glad it all happened HERE and not the other, numerous boat yards in the Bay Area. What could have been a nightmare really became a PERFECT EXAMPLE OF HOW A BOAT YARD SHOULD OPERATE. If you want any job done right, at a solid price, with a smile on your face as you sign the final bill, bring your boat to Vallejo Marine Craft. Thank you guys for everything. We will be coming back for years to come. Keep up the good work.

My Catalina 320 had not been hauled for 8 years. The packing box was leaking pretty bad so I decided to put a drip less shaft in and have the bottom painted. Mary at the new Vallejo Marine Craft was able to haul my boat quickly even though they were very busy. Once the boat was out they found the cutlass bearing needed replacing and a few other problems. Every step of the way I was informed and sent photos of what was going on and given options. I was very happy with the work Vallejo Marine Craft did.

Called them to haul out a sailboat. They were very responsive. Hauled it out today. They pressure washed it and it looked great. Nice work and friendly people.

I have always had doubts about mechanics . I wish I knew all the shops I shouldn't go to. If anyone…read moregot ripped off any where , Please post a review so we can all be warned. Here is my contribution. It's really hard when A mechanic is telling you need all these things and then you find out you didn't and Infact they never even did the work. They just claimed it. Don't feel dumb . It's not our fault. People take advantages because our lack of knowledge .So pay close attention . This started yesterday. We took our boat in because it wouldn't go in reverse. This shop said they needed time to check it out. We left it there. came back a few hours later. The mechanic came out , he said he had to do a tune up and replace a bunch of parts. I never asked them to do anything. I stood there as they showed me it turned on exc... 400.00 later. !!! I really couldn't find a way not to pay. I never asked for the work but they said I didn't tell them not too either. I paid it , took it home. This morning . Woke up excited . Got ready , the boat wouldn't turn on. Come to find out they didn't replace any parts , and they didn't do a tune up. Infact the boat doesn't run at all. I'm out of 400.00, plus a new battery for 120.00 (they recommended I needed.) Why are these stories so common? Why are some mechanics so shady!!! My boat doesn't run at all now. My family was expecting a nice day at the lake with this heat . Now we are just sitting here sad. No money , no boat. This place pretty much ruined our summer.

I recommend Chris without reservation as a knowledgeable, informative, thorough and enjoyable…read moresurveyor. The survey was originally going to be for insurance but prospective buyers materialized, so they and I spent the morning with Chris, listening to his observations and winding up understanding a lot more than when we started. This Cape Dory 30 powerboat is 35 years old, so there was a lot to talk about. His detailed 55 page report, with text and photos, listed what was in good shape (his term is "serviceable"), what needed fixing, and what should be looked at further. It was a roadmap for making a sturdy old boat ready for sea and fit for the 350 mile trip from San Francisco Bay to its new home in Southern California. The cost of the survey was a bit lower than the other two I considered. That wasn't a factor in my choice of Chris - that was based on the sample surveys I saw - but it might be another reason for you to check him out.

Chris is the best surveyor I have encountered in 30 years of boat buying. He is extremely…read moreknowledgeble, energetic, personable and did a very thorough and complete evaluation. He spent over 6 hours on the boat including a 2 hour sea trial. He looked in every nook and cranny and even removed a screwed in panel so he could see if the boat had a galvanic isolator buried under the dashboard. I give him an A plus. Makes me want to buy another boat so I can work with him again
